Rant intro:
With the new update to the game, new event has also arrived named Sacred Hunt. At first, I thought “oh cool, another event to go and do”. I liked doing the Khitan Caravans with their Sorcerer hunt. A new dungeon was introduced with the event, Kurak’s Lair and it was fun for the most part, for me at least. However, this new event is nothing when compared. Sacred Hunt seemed good on paper and YouTube trailers, I thought it would be something I could enjoy… Until I saw the merchants.
The Event:
the event was also introduced. When it comes to “events”, Funcom has introduced to the game, and there aren’t many. I personally believe this one, Sacred Hunt, is by far the worst and most lazy one they’ve ever done. The event itself brings very little to the game and, far worse, it rewards absolutely nothing for the time you put in for doing it. When you look at the merchants, you’ll see the ridiculously overpriced items that they’re selling. Bestial Regalia, for example, is an item that costs 1000 Gnarled Fangs. To earn the amount of said fangs took me well over 14 hours. I’m by no means a speedrunner or tryhard at the game, I’m just a man who plays Conan Exiles in my spare time. So for me, it took 14 hours to earn enough fangs to obtain Bestial Regalia. There are 2 weapons they introduced, a Warhammer and a pair of Claws. They each cost 500 Gnarled Fangs. So, for me, that’s another 14 hour long slog through the live sand. There is a long list of other cosmetic items and placables for your home that cost at least 250 Fangs and some items at a lower cost which could be obtained way faster. For someone like me who plays the game in my spare time, this is crazy time investment to do the same thing over and over again to earn quite literally nothing. 24 hours to obtain 2 weapons and 1 armor piece is quite a miserable reward for someone who willingly invested that much time into the game. The Khitani Caravans was an event that lasted at least 3 months, but Sacred Hunt was limited to a mere 2 weeks and was released with the most broken update they’ve ever had to the point of rendering the game completely unplayable where players would lose everything they own due to falling through the ground or servers crashing because someone has a turtle pet. The event is ending tomorrow and I wonder how many people have actually had the chance to experience it? Sure, you could go in single player mode and just do the event there. But there are people who prefer playing on official servers, like me, who want to do the event with the characters they’ve had for years but were unable to due to the game being unplayable. Funcom, however, did mention that Sacred Hunt event will return as an in-game event once it ends tomorrow. The dates are still unknown to them when that will happen, but they will notify the community when they’re able to. Will they also consider changing prices for the items that come with the event? I definitely would like to see that. Bosses and Minibosses that come with Sacred Hunt are rewarding players with a laughable amount of currency and players have to spend a meagre amount of fangs that they earn to continue doing the event. By doing 1 cycle of the event you will be awarded somewhere between 100-120 fangs, didn’t do the exact math here, but I’m just setting an example. Players will earn 120 fangs for doing the event ONCE! To continue doing the event and accumulate more fangs, you now have to spend AT LEAST 40 more fangs to buy a Champion’s Lure item to summon the 4 Minibosses that the event introduced and then an additional 10 to another Champion’s Lure, so you can craft a Grand Champion’s Lure. Which puts you down to 70 fangs. Gotta spend fangs to earn fangs, right?
Rant wrap up:
It’s actual pain to go through this process just to not be rewarded at all. For players that do not have Sorcery leveled up, this seems impossible to do as they’re unable to traverse around the map(s) with teleports. The amount of time they would have to invest in the game to obtain Bestial Regalia, for example, would far exceed the 14 hours that it took me. Taking into consideration that Sacred Hunt will return at some point to the game, I hope that they will invest a little more time into it and make it less grindy than it already is in its current stage. The grind is immense, and it’s downright bullcrap.
