Game mode: Single Player Type of issue: Bug Server type: PvE/PvE Region: North America
When starting the game from Steam, I will usually have to boot the game 2 or 3 times. It will give me the first loading screen, but then stutter on the other loading screens. Sometimes I am unable to skip any of the scenes like my keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. I will have to Close the game from Task manager and reboot it. The stutter disappears once I get into the game. It’s not game breaking but rather just irritating.
Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:
Start the game from Steam
The Game will get through the first Screen Fine
It will sometimes stutter after that preventing me from skipping scenes and being stuck in the opening video
I don’t know how to specifically replicate it, it seems to be random when it happens (This was happening before 2.2)
firstly, one issue is that the movie files are huge, and your computer is probably low/mid spec, and is having to actively both read and render the movie it’s playing.
secondly, unless you keep up on maintenance on your machine, you probably need to really run ccleaner free version [1] and defraggler free version [2], and aggressively clear out old crap, followed by multiple defragment runs.
spacesniffer [3] also helps you find big chunks of crap on your drive that you might not be using any more and can uninstall/delete to clear space
you especially want to defrag the drive conan is installed on after major updates, it will help.
if you have conan installed on an SSD then defragmenting is less important (and may shorten drive lifespan)
finally, and i really cannot recommend this enough, you should really just edit the config files to skip the movies entirely. if you’ve seen them once, that’s enough.
go to /steamapps/common/conan exiles/conansandbox/config and edit defaultgame.ini
scroll down to the [/Script/MoviePlayer.MoviePlayerSettings] section and change bWaitForMoviesToComplete= to False
in the same section, change the StartupMovies values that begin with + to - to turn that scheisse off.
@funcom: make movies display an in-game Setting, so you can disable it, and honor it. Quit resetting it by forcing an update on the config files every update, because we have to keep making these changes over and over. We don’t want to watch the damn movies every time, OK?!?
