I noticed that when turning iron bars into steel in an improved furnace it’s using 5 bars to make 1. That seems high. I changed to the heat efficient furnace and it was the same 5-1 ratio.
Were the values changed?

From scratch it is 10-1. A thrall helps.
I put a named smelter on and no change. I don’t think it’s working right.

For as long as i remember it has been
2 raw iron ore to 1 iron bar
5 iron bars to 1 steel bar. So it takes 10 raw iron ore to smelt into 1 steel bar in the end.
If you get a named black smith it is more material effecient in an inmproved or higher black smith station
2 iron ore 1 iron bar
1 iron bar to 1 iron reinforcement
1 iron reinforcement to 1 steel reinforcement
1 steel reinforcement can then be deconsructed to 1 steel bar if need be.
So 2 iron ore = 1 Steel bar that way.

Best way for iron to steel is t4 blacksmith and all 2 improved blacksmith benches . First you craft the ironreinforcments 1 irin bar 1 reinforcment then you take the ironreinforcment and steelfire to craft the steelreinforcment thats a 1 to 1 ratio after that you can make the steel reinforcments to steelbars to a 1 to 1 ratio its a ölong process but more effectiv est is you have 2 t4 blacksmith so you can craft in one the iron reinforcments and on the other the steel reinforcments
