Stuff disappearing!

I am loving this game, haven’t had a single problem until yesterday. I play solo, as I would rather learn everything I can before joining online. Anyways, I have been leveling myself a greater sabertooth. Yesterday I placed him outside my house to guard, quit the game for a bit, came back later and he is gone. He’s not even in my followers list, just completely gone. I tried looking at my event log, says absolutely nothing about it. I reloaded the game, did everything I could think of, but nothing has changed.

Then today, I am working on some more journeys and my game froze. I couldn’t do anything, even let it sit for a moment with the hope it would unfreeze itself. Ended up having to close the game completely, went back in only for half my stuff to be gone. Stuff I wasn’t even messing with, like weapons, leather, steel, all my wood. This was all stuff I had gathered way before today, all put away in storage.

This is really starting to tick me off, as I’m worried if I continue, more things will just start to disappear and all that work will be for nothing.

Anyone have any advice, or personal experience with this? I want to enjoy this game, but if my stuff is going to start disappearing, I may give up.

Edit: I also just noticed that several of my unlocked knowledge is locked again, but all the knowledge points I used to unlock those are gone. This is ridiculous.

i have not had shit dissapear yet, but i would limit your pet placements, thralls you can break and put them in chests, pets are on a timer, a pretty long one.

id save the greaters place all the normal ones down

as for the skills…i have never heard of such a thing, that sounds bizarre. i assume you made a bug report, sssems like a good one

the amount of crazy shit going on i never heard of, makes me wonder if your using mods?

edit
i have about 1800 hrs since early access, and there have def been bugs, and im still playing only a bit since the last patch dropped (but nothing you described)
all my crafters were in the bench inventory after the patch (i work away from home, not always able to log into my official sever).
nothing disappeared.
however my base is compact and not really involved…have no idea if that makes a diffrence

I don’t have any mods, I don’t even know the first thing about mods. All I did was download the game, start solo, and have been playing for about a month.

I’ll try that with my pets though, don’t have too many pets or thralls at the moment anyways. Speaking of, I forgot to add that one of my thralls won’t let me do anything. He’s right by a doorway and it says I don’t have permission to do anything with him. Also not in my followers list, which is really annoying because he is in the way.

I think I did the bug report right, I don’t get on forums much, so hopefully that worked. :woman_shrugging:t2:

A friend of mine suggested I uninstall and reinstall, so if I can’t figure something out I may end up doing so. May not bring back all my lost things, but might help with future issues. They said something about a possible corrupted file in the last update may have occurred. I’m not super tech savvy, I know enough of the basics to get by, but this has blown my mind.

I appreciate your response though, I’m just so upset with all the work I have put into this just to have half of it disappear and no idea if it will happen again.

Do you quit to main menu before closing the game? Since there is not an actual ‘Save game’ command, it needs to save the information somehow. Thinking exiting to main menu is how it is done. It is what I have always done and I haven’t had any problems losing stuff. Of course that may change now that I said that…lol. No idea of how to get back lost stuff though, sorry.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the forums… there are many of us who came here in the same state as you, ticked off at some aspect of the game.

Welcome to the forum fellow exile!

Try not to play continously more than 2 hours . Log out, restart your console and log back in to continue playing. It’s not a solution, it’s just a workaround i do on ps5.
If you’re on ps4 then i think you have to reduce this timer more. Everything you said it’s true and valid and i am really sorry.

Welcome to the forum again!

Just to clarify a couple of points - firstly the OP is on playstation (as indicated at the top of the thread) so cannot use mods. Secondly all of the advice that you offer refers to official servers, whereas they specified that they are playing singleplayer, which should not suffer any of the things you reference. However - your suggestion that they should store their followers in chests (presumably to avoid problems with the most recent updates) would be valid, if it wasn’t for the fact that they specifically stated these were followers they had already been levelling, so there is no system in the game that would ever allow them to place these followers into chests as they have already been placed into the world.

Sadly that does appear to be an ongoing problem - partly in relation to the latest updates, but more generally an issue that seems to happen on consoles relatively frequently. The only thing that you could possibly have done to affect this directly would be if your server settings include having left decay on - but that almost certainly cannot be the case as a) it should take far longer and b) the log should state that these things decayed. Far more likely is that you are suffering from the game’s poor optimisation.

You are correct, it is quite ridiculous that a company would sell a game that fails so badly so often. If you search the forums you should find other threads and reports of players losing knowledges and knowledge points (I will try to find some for you and add in an edit - maybe there is something in there that can help you to resolve it. Maybe…)

My best recommendation is to follow any suggestion that @stelagel can come up with - he has a huge amount of experience in dealing with this game on playstation and if anyone can find a workaround to prevent future problems, he would be the one.

I am sincerely sorry for the problems you have run into.

Edit: A couple of threads relating to the knowledge points issue -

In this thread @sestus2009 suggests a possible way to get the lost points back

This is a bug report that seems to be the same issue, but the customer support response is typically disappointing

Sorry, this seems to be all the relevant threads I can find (though there are several others going back a few years. I thought I’d seen more than this, but I guess I’m not coming up with the right search topics. If you are willing to use Sestus’ suggestion from the first thread - using the admin menu to spawn fragments of power will allow you to regain the lost points (10 per fragment that you use). Similarly you could spawn in the lost resources that way - though, of course, this is rather unsatisfactory. Unfortunately, this will not work to return the lost followers, or the time and connection that you had expended.

Thank you all for the welcome!

JamCar, I do go to quit when I exit the game. This last time though, it completely froze on me and I couldn’t do anything except hit the PS button on my controller and quit that way. I tried waiting to see if it would unfreeze, and did everything I could think of to not have to do so, but unfortunately it wouldn’t let me do anything else. It was after that when I came back in, half my stuff and most of my knowledge was gone.

I’m starting to see why people come here ticked off, it wouldn’t be so bad if I hadn’t put so much work into this already.

Stelagel, thank you so much for this info, I will definitely do just that. Hopefully it will help with any future issues, as I’m on PS5. I think I’ll do maybe an hour and a half and see how that goes, heck maybe every hour to keep my sanity.

DanQuixote, thank you so much for all you’ve done as well. I appreciate everyone one of you that has responded. I realized after I got back into my game that there was no way I could return my pets and thralls to chests. I will definitely check out those threads, and anything else any of you have to offer.

It’s so disappointing that there isn’t a fix to all this, especially with how many people seem to be having issues.

I do have a few more things happen that I haven’t noticed, or did that helped. One good thing is, I used the potion to reset my knowledge points and got all of them back, so that is a plus! Still don’t have all the stuff I have found around the map, especially my map room knowledge, dragon bone stuff and tablets, but at least it’s a start.

Secondly, I cannot access my treasure coffer. It says I do not own it, and cannot do anything with it at all.

Lastly, the thrall I’m having issues with. I took a screen shot of it I’m going to try and add. It will not let me do anything at all, I tried getting rid of everything around him, thinking maybe he was stuck. Now I don’t have a floor under him cause I can’t put it back with him there. Damn dude is in my way! I took out the walls, moved away all the stuff near him, hasn’t changed a thing. I cannot do a dang thing with him, not even in my follower management list. I even made a clan, and my friend came into my world and joined it, just to see if it would give her permission, nothing still.

My friend wondered if my house would have anything to do with some of my problems? I do have a lot of decorations around it, could that be a problem? We’ve just been throwing around thoughts on what could be causing issues.

You are most welcome. Good news that you got the knowledge points back. Unfortunately you will probably have to learn things like the Map Room and Dragonbone gear again (but at least you know where to find them now, so that’s something…). Once you learn recipes in the world (as opposed to spending points to learn them) you shouldn’t lose that knowledge at any point, so it definitely seems something has glitched there.

The treasure coffer and the thrall seem likely to be somehow affected by the same glitch - somehow the game has become convinced that they are owned by someone else (which is a bit difficult in singleplayer, but seems to be the situation…). The only time I had that happen to me was when I first created a clan - wound up locked in my outpost hut, unable to interact with anything with my fighter thrall eyeing me up like I was a threat - somehow I owned nothing. Because I was on PC, I was able to fix that with the help of a mod, but sadly that is not an option for you. The best ‘solution’ I can come up with would be to turn on all of the PVP settings you can find - that way you may be able to break the coffer (and loot the bag afterwards) and kill the thrall. That is a bit drastic though, so it may be better to wait and see if someone else can come up with something better. But at least it should allow you to get them out of your way if there is no other solution.

I suppose it is possible that the number of placables decorating your house could be a contributing factor - just on the logic that more stuff means more workload for the console. What I can see in the screenshot doesn’t look unreasonable to me at all (but again that may be PC bias). I do remember that @stelagel has said in the past that his big collection of items caused him problems with lag, so maybe it is similar here, but really that is outside my area of expertise. Hopefully when Stelagel comes back online tomorrow he may have a better idea if someone else hasn’t been able to suggest something by then.

Here’s the game breaking problem, some recipes that you lost the knowledge from freezing, you cannot learn them again, especially sorcery. It’s like your character is getting a freaking amnesia and the game is, “i already gave you this candy, no more”.
The only possible solution for our fellow exile to enjoy the game with correct behavior is to play online. If you can play online fellow exile @ElizabethRage, join us. We are a group of family people, between 30 and 70, from all over the world. We group, laugh and help each other. We would be more than happy to have you!

I thank you all for everything, you all have been so kind and helpful and that means a lot to me. I have tried everything you all have had to offer, plus a few things friends have suggested and nothing has worked. I have even found more things wrong, such as work benches I can’t do anything with, chests I can’t access, and more.

I’ve decided it’s time to give up on my little world and start over as much as it pains me to do so.

Stelagel, I would be absolutely thrilled to be able to join! I’ll be honest, I have no idea how to even go about doing so, but I would love to.

I would like to do another solo game as well, as I do love playing on my own at times, but it sounds like a lot of fun to join up with others. I was afraid to go online, as past experiences with other games haven’t been great.

I have a few questions tho, they may be dumb, so don’t laugh at me. :joy:

If I were to start another solo game, and then also go online at times, would that cause any issues with my solo? Like if I build a base, and work my way back to where I was and then go online, would any of that carry over to online, or would I be starting all over again? Then as I stated above, how do I go about joining you all?

I am so grateful to have found some kind people here!

It shouldn’t. Basically, your Single-Player game is its own separate server, which doesn’t interact with online servers. So you can have two separate games going on, one online and one on your own.

@stelagel I’d imagine this is something you would be able to offer some good advice on - you seem to have played on most (all?) of the playstation servers by this point

Sister worry not, we will guide you how. Doesn’t matter what everybody knows, as long as the company is positive, it’s a game after all and the only goal is fun here, nothing else :hugs:. And let me tell you a secret here, there’s not a new or old player i met that didn’t teach me something in this game, that after several thousands of hours i haven’t learned yet, just be you self and do your things. It’s on your hand to decide how to play, the rest of us will be just supporting!
Clans in this game are tricky, everything belongs to the clan leader and the clan leader is the one who decides who stays and who departs. So if you decide to play official, that’s the standard experience, you will have to choose your region, official, pve and choose the server that has less pings for you.
If you are EU it will be easy for me to join on your time schedule, if you are USA then i will beg my brother and my master @LostBrythunian to join, because he lives in USA too.
In our little company we have plenty nations, Canada, USA, Chile, Germany, Greece and Australia. So i believe that someone of us will be able to join easily on your time schedule. The clan leader of course it would be you and no other, definitely! Just send a friend request in my account tp add you in our psn chat.

Beautiful experience brother and many good people, many, many .

No, on the contrary logging in on official servers is kinda “healing” your single player session, so it’s good to ho online.
But one thing that you probably won’t like going online, is that some beloved spots you have, maybe occupied. Online experience has definitely pros and cons. So it would be best for me to know your region and the spot you like to build, to jump on several different servers and try to find your beloved spot free.

Same here sister, in this forum i have made true friends, my “big brother” @sestus2009 is my very first friend in here and all these years we shared A LOT!
Despite the functioning problems this game has, it’s my best game ever and these people are equally responsible for it.
Looking forward for your reply!

Point of order, this one is by no way a master not of any skill or talent and especially not of any other person.
But this one is very glad to be called a friend and is willing to assist if time allows.

I’m on ps5 and can assist as well
