That’s very interesting. A lot of us are working off of what the old stats were, and haven’t adapted to the current balance that exists on TestLive. I’m constantly surprised by what effects the attributes have.
It seems like it’s a huge advantage, but it’s actually not. You can’t regen stamina while using the free light attacks and cannot perform the majority of gap-closers without using heavy attacks (such as the sword’s charge or the spear’s poke). All you need is 20 grit for the +50% stamina regen feat to get the most out of the stat, since it only takes a few seconds to fully regenerate. I could easily avoid the majority (if not all) light attacks by sprinting on and off for a moment-- that uses much less stamina than a dodge and accomplishes the same thing. When you dodge a heavy sword charge you can’t really punish me without using a heavy attack yourself, putting you in a similar stamina-management situation. You have more stamina, true, but you still have to pause from using stamina-related actions or it will never regenerate. If you could actually use those free light attacks AND regenerate stamina at the same time (since you technically aren’t using a stamina-draining move), THEN it would be a completely different story.
The overall point is that as soon as you get the perk for 20 grit and can regen your stamina in a few seconds, as long as you manage it efficiently it will never be an issue. There won’t be a time that you wish you had 20 more grit instead of 20 more str, for example, after you get that perk. You can simply trade instead of dodging your opponent’s attacks and have a huge advantage, since you’ll kill them before they kill you. A lot of players on testlive are noobs at pvp (no offense) and don’t realize things like this, so they try to dodge every attack even when simply trading would be more beneficial. Against a capable player having 40 grit will never be more of an advantage than investing in another stat line like str or acc.
Vitality is actually a bad stat now because the perks are absolute garbage until you have the fourth one at 40 vit, and even then it’s questionable if it’s worth the stat investment (assuming the devs actually put a cooldown on healing items and attempt to balance the game). Without that perk I could still pretty much heal as quickly when I use a potion and have around ~20 vit. The 3rd perk is pretty much useless in an actual fight since it takes so long to regen HP that it will almost never make a difference-- you’ll probably still die in 3 hits regardless of how long the fight goes on. Maybe it would allow you to take 1 extra hit in a fight-- but I don’t think you’d get even that if your opponent is using archerion weapons.
It’s not so much that they are unbalanced, but rather that a lot of perks & stat investments end up totally useless in real fights. Agility is not worth an investment over any other stat since you get enough defense out of having a good set of armor. Survival is totally useless outside of farming stuff a little faster. High grit or vitality are not worth the investment when you gain more than enough of a benefit from simply having 20 in each, which doesn’t take a lot of points and allows you to invest in something like 40 str and 30 acc and still have the benefits you need. When they actually fix the encumbrance feat that’s supposed to stop cripple, it’ll be worth having, but that won’t change much with this basic idea of optimal stat distribution that gets the most benefit per point investment, regardless of someone’s playstyle.
I’ll go back to streaming Conan when they finally update testlive this week to revisit all this stuff. This is the kind of thing that’s easier to demonstrate through actual gameplay IMO, since hypothetical situations have a million more variables. I guess I just like typing a lot Kappa
It’s not OP. Trust me. I chased someone with that perk and literally kept up with them almost the whole time, just managing my stamina. That guy later asked me “What kind of BS build allows you to sprint forever, do a ton of damage, and cripple me with your bow??,” assuming I had the 50 grit perk too.
What makes it not OP is the fact that you can’t regen stamina while sprinting. There were many times I wanted to use the perk offensively in combat but realized I couldn’t, because sprinting kept delaying my stamina regen and forced me to have to stop and wait just like my opponent. The perk ends up just being good for casually traveling around the map, since you can accomplish almost the same thing with good stamina management.
And I mean, if someone’s just endlessly running away, then it’s not like they’re trying to engage in PVP anyway. You can keep up with your poor victim if you manage your stamina well enough. Trust me, I’ve done it several times. This game’s map has a lot of obstacles / enemies / cliffs that tend to slow players down.
Nah man i definitely see problems with it, I’ve been swarmed by 4-5 players rolling endless runner already, They always keep advantages and its impossible to deal with if the player is using the build correctly. Yeah i got a few hits as they ran by and messed up, But it completely changes the combat flow. Its no longer about skill based fighting with unlimited swings and stamina. Its more about throwing as many as you can without getting hit, and rinse and repeating.
(By the way, pretty sure you can regen while sprinting(with that perk). Just not while swing spamming light attacks.)
I do agree with you in the fact that its not “overpowered” Infact its actually a pretty horrible build for 1st hand combat, my problem is, in a purely skill based combat, it really has no place.
Example being, You mess up a roll and stamina drain, Chances are your going to get hit.
Other side of the example being, As long as you save a SLITHER of stamina you can always get away.
I dont mind people running when its called for in the situational fight, What i mind is that there is 0 way to punish someone who cant stamina drain through normal methods. (running and light swinging)
Also i dont mean to disagree, But if you actually met someone who was decent with the 50 grit, You’d see the problem. Plenty of people are using it purely for runner builds. I’ve only seen 3 out of maybe 20? that were using it for tactical combat. Its almost like getting swooped by a flock of birds.
They dont exactly hit hard, but if you lose track of your blind spot, bam.
I have to agree you seem to have met really terrible pvp players on testlive.
No, but you can do something that is almost just as good.
Even if you perfectly-instantly move your mouse to turn 180degrees and sprint your character will still take time to turn around and start sprinting. You are also turning your back on an enemy. Different weapons have different light attacks.
Yes but I have more stamina meaning that when you actually have to look for a pause I can still dish out a few extra moves on you.
Except for when you just run out.
Also 20 str along with 40 grit is not the best pressure build.
A lot of those players experienced stagger when got hit first.
I seem to not be aware of that glitch. Seriously? Becouse when I tried drinking potions before they expire and they just cancel each other out. Have you reported such an exploit?
It doesn’t “maybe” allow you to take more hits. You have more hit points = it literally allows you to take more hits.
Meeting people who can’t use their advantages properly does not make said advantages unadvantageous.
Clearly y’all are missing the epic double jump build that allows you to out taunt your opponent and avoid attacks with well times flips like you’re at Cirque du Soleil.
Daaaamn… Seem like I’ve been playing the game wrong all this time…
TBH it did seem pretty easy to avoid attacks with the double jump and you could also jump over your opponent. It’s fun but not the most optimal set-up unless they were to add the ability to attack while in the air or something (which would be amazing)
Yeah air attacks and double jump would see the rise of “The Yoda” build
Double jump let’s you get the edge if you’re enemy is on the high ground. Shouldn’t have underestimated my ups Obi-Wan!
