The Executioner glitches behind mesh and cannot be killed

Bug Description:

The Executioner (Exiled Lands) often glitches into the walls and cannot be attacked, nor find his way out. He just remains stuck there until the server restarts.


Steps to Reproduce:

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. Please be as detailed as possible; the more details, the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Enter the cave (not from the Executioner’s Entrance, the other one)
  2. Get aggro from around the corner and start fighting the skeletons
  3. The Executioner aggros and sometimes correctly walks around and you can fight him, but sometimes he decides the fastest route between two points is a straight line, walls be damned. Then he gets stuck behind the wall.
  4. Wait for server restart and spawn reset before you can fight him again.

This is not limited to The Executioner, but it is especially aggravating since The Executioner’s Hood is a high value rare item made even more difficult to acquire when The Executioner bugs out and can’t be attacked until the server restarts.

There are two contributing bugs:

  1. The AI (prior to 2.2) used to respect LOS for aggro. It no longer does. It does appear that most enemies only aggro in a frontal visual cone but they often ignore walls or anything that blocks vision. They also don’t pay attention to altitude and will aggro through ceilings.
  2. The AI not infrequently navigates NPCs through the mesh where they get stuck until the server restarts.

Can confirm I’ve had the same issue in singleplayer. Based on thrall behaviour (ie standing by the cave wall and staring upwards), it seems likely he glitched his way to the surface. (I have also encountered the same problem with the Guardian of the Flame.)

At least on singleplayer, they eventually (about 5 mins) reappear at their spawn point and can continue to be fought, so I’ve not had to wait for server restart, but it’s still frustrating. (The Watcher also does something similar where his wild hammer swings cause him to fall off the high walkway at some point in pretty much every fight and then it’s necessary to wait for him to respawn back up top in the same way.)

For what it’s worth - one thing I have noticed with the executioner is that he doesn’t seem to go through the wall if I can keep the fight in the main chamber (or at least, he hasn’t so far) - it’s only happened to me when fighting him in parts of the cave. I don’t know if that’s the same on servers? But it suggests to me that maybe lack of space plays into it? (Certainly, with both the Executioner and the Guardian of the Flame, it’s seemed like they got stuck to the wall for a little bit first - unable to maneuver themselves away, and then at some point they make a lunging attack towards it and that’s when they shift to ‘somewhere else’.) I don’t know if those observations help in any way, but figured they might be worth mentioning for added detail.
