The Jhebbal Sag Religion

Hello everyone.

I’ve been testing out the Jhebbal Sag religion after acquiring it, which took several attempts to acquire it.
I must say, I’m rather disappointed to find, that after all the effort in attempting to acquire it, in turns out it’s really not worth it. With it being about using the lures and getting to the point where you can use the sign of Jhebbal Sag to get Shadebloom without having to go to the Midnight Grove. But the lures are not very useful and are quite circumstancial, and you can easily yourself do what the lures do, by attracting the animal in question yourself and have it follow you. I don’t know if I’m missing something, am I?

The Sign of the Jhebbal Sag is quite costly, 1 sacred blood, 100 brimstone, 20 alchemical base and a negliable cost of 5 twine - all for a chance at getting ONE shadebloom, provided you can kill the werewolf in time, which also depends on if the “sacrificed” animal have been deemed worthy or not. When you boil it down, it is essentially the cost of an attempt to get one shadebloom, and considering that you can get more shadeblooms much more easily for a lot less, makes the sign of Jhebbal Sag not very likely to be used.

The only real beneficial items you can get from the religions altar, are the the hunter’s potion and the feast, but there other equivalents to feast, both from the other religions but also from other recipes. The night-eye potion, doesn’t do what it’s supposed to and really only give you an inferior vision - you’d be better of with just increasing the gamma from withing the game settings. The Claws of Jhebbal Sag are nice, but again there are equivalents to these that can be otherwise obtained. Being able to purify demon blood, is practical, but it is the equivalent of using the fluid press.

So overall, the religion is in my opinion not very well made, and certainly shouldn’t be behind so much effort to obtain. However, it could be vastly improved if there was made some changes to how the lures and sign of Jhebbal Sag work.

If the lures were changed to work so not only did the they attract the attention of the animal type in question, but would also keep the animals focus though with a smaller chance of a player becoming it’s focus, it should also have a chance to spawn up to a certain amount of animals of the type in the general area. The reason it should have a chance to spawn up to a certain amount of animals of the type, is due to the spawn system depending on spawn timers, thus it’s necessary to spawn temporary game entities.

If the Sign of Jhebbal Sag was changed to work more like this, within it’s area of affect animals have a chance to become temporarily corrupted, where the higher tier animal it is, the higher the chance for it to become corrupted, when these corrupted animals are harvested they either should potentially or statically yield one shadebloom. - It would achieve what it’s meant to do, namely make the player not having to go to the midnight grove to get shadeblooms, and it would also make up for it’s cost. 20 alchemical base is nothing to scoff at, it’s the equivalent of 40 silver dust and 20 gold dust OR 10 silver coins and 5 gold coins OR 4 silver bars and 2 gold bars, plus 40 ichor - That’s quite a lot of hard to get materials for the CHANCE of getting ONE shadebloom. And shadebloom in it self when using for better chances when taming pets, is also based on CHANCE. The material cost for this as it is currently, is way too expensive for it’s potential yield, it should be GREATLY reduced.

What do you guys think?

I wonder what others think about the Jhebbal Sag religion and how it’s implemented and works in the game.

Here is the thing - EVERY religion with a craftable alter/shrine in the game has an equivalent to the epic level weapon and the feast, all of them also has an avatar, all of the various religions also has craftable items that has an actual use. BUT… The Jhebbal Sag religion specifically, doesn’t for the most part have any craftable items that are actually worth it to craft, with the exception of a few.

All of the various religions have their equivalents to other craftable religion items, with the exception of Crom that offers nothing. They all have a harvesting tool to specific for harvesting their unique crafting material, same goes for an epic level weapon equivalents, the feast equivalents and avatar equivalents.

Derketo:
Elixir of Freedom: +20 Stamina for 1 hour.
Transmute various items into items like: honey, bread, aloe vera, blood, compost.
Derketo Acolyte Armor set - A light armor set.

Mitra:
Ambrosia - A health regeneration item.
Mitraen Tunic & Breeches - A partial light armor set.
Statue of Refreshment - Essentially a well.
Phoenix-engraved sword - comparable to the ancient khopesh - a tier 3 weapon.
Statue of Guidance - large light source.

Set:
Set Antidote - antidote against poisons.
Set Brazier - a light source.
Setite Acolyte Armor set - A light armor set.
Snake Arrows - Poison arrows.
Serpent-stamped Khopesh - comparable to a hardened steel sword.
Setite Shield - comparable to a hardened steel shield.
Snake idol - a decorative item.

Ymir:
Ice - a resource that can be very hard to get.
Black-ice - a resouce that is significantly harder to get than ice - very long crafting time.
Ice shard arrow - comparable to the steel arrow.
Ymir’s Light Armor set - a light armor set that is vanir themed.
Glacier-Crack - comparable to the hardened steel mace.
Statue of Ymir - a decorative item.

Yog:
Purified flesh - a health regeneration item and an extremely low weight item as well.
Yoggite Watcher Mask - comparable to the Darfari Mask - a light armor head piece.
Yoggite spear - comparable to the javelin, but has a slightly higher damage than the javelin.
Yoggite cudgel - comparable to the exception iron war axe, but the cudgel has a slightly higher damage.
Skeletal decoration - a decorative item.

Now let’s take a look at…

Jhebbal Sag:
Night-Eye potion - let’s you see better in the dark (when it actually works as graphically intended).
Hunter’s potion - +8 to accuracy.
Lures: Canine, Imp, Bird, Reptile, Spider, Scorpion, Rocknose, Feline, Sandreaper and Demonic.

  • all lures are essentially useless and very circumstancial.
Purify Demon-blood - converts demon blood to normal blood, which is quite easily obtainable.
Sign of Jhebbal Sag - an item that potentially let’s get ONE shadebloom IF you can kill the werewolf in time, and thats only if the animal was deemed worthy. It’s extremely costly and it’s essentially a chance to convert the sign into ONE shadebloom and a bit of demon blood and hide, but that’s it. Certainly not worth it.

This leaves the only usable items being:
Night-Eye potion.
Hunter’s potion.
It’s feast item.
It’s epic equivalent weapon.
It’s avatar item.

…but the last three items are equivalents to other items to what the other religions also offer an equivalent to. So essentially, it’s only the Night-Eye and Hunter’s potion, that would be worth it. Now consider the fact that you have to obtain it through lots of effort. But the main parts of the religions craftable items are just not worth it to attempt to use - essentially the lures and the sign. If you look at the other religions craftable items, they’re all useful, with the exception of the decorative items. IF the sign of Jhebbal Sag had a significantly lower cost and/or was changed to work as how I suggested, it would actually be worth it to craft and use, but now 20 alchemical base and 100 brimstone makes it a VERY costly item, and with it being a chance item that has an EXTREMELY low yield for it’s cost, it’s simply not worth it. You’d get more out of putting in the effort of going to the Midnight Grove to get more shadeblooms.

All of the other religions that you can take from the beginning offers way more than Jhebbal Sag, and those you don’t have to work hard to get. I’ll grant the hunter’s potion is a very nice bonus to have, as I haven’t been able to get the graphical intended change, then I can’t speak for it. But considering, those are the only things that are really worth getting, it’s not a whole lot compared to the other religions. If the lures and the sign were optimized to more like what I suggested, it would make it overall a hell of a lot better.

I lived long enough to see someone complaining about JhebbalSag religion being useless. Let’s put it this way, JhebbalSag has the most powerful god and some very good potions. The claws were very unique until the latest patch. For that alone it is a top tier religion.

The most useless religion by far is Ymir. It doesnt offer anything for early or late game.

It feels that op’s review is based on his early game experience (lvl 30s-40s). From a new player’s point of view I would say it is a fair assessment. Your perspective however will change as soon as you start playing end game content.

You forgot the Set-mask, which works as gas-mask and has really no weight at all:
https://conanexiles.gamepedia.com/Setite_Mask
I always have a spare one with me…

First of all, I didn’t forget the epic level weapons, I just didn’t name them but I did make a mention of the religions each have their epic level weapon equivalents. Secondly, I also made mention of each religion have their feast equivalents, granted they each have their strong points, but they’re feasts nonetheless. Thirdly, I also made mention of each religion having their avatar equivalents, but granted some are better than others. But the core problem with the Jhebbal Sag religion, is that it’s core craftable components offered from it’s respective altar/shrine, just isn’t worth it to use. And when you compare this to the other religions core craftable items offered from their respective altars/shrines, it’s quite clear that Jhebbal Sag religion has some serious issues. With regards to Jhebbal Sag’s avatar being better/Superior than the others, actually would pose a game balance issue - no matter how you look at it, if Jhebbal Sag’s avatar is superior to the other religions avatars, then there is a game balance issue as well, along with the rest of the religions issues.

Also, you probably didn’t notice the pve tag, but this is from the perspective of being in pve, but nonetheless it should still be as good in the pve context of things.

Having to disable a graphical feature, for the Night-Eye potion to work, is really bad - it should work irregardless.

The main reason I listed different religions various craftable items in their respective altars/shrines, was to make it apparent, that when it comes to the core items offered, which are craftable in the various religions altars/shrine - Jhebbal Sag doesn’t items of much of use, with the exception of the potions. It may very well be that in the context of pvp, having the sign option to be able to get the shadebloom without having to go into the dungeon, is a a nice option, it still doesn’t change the fact, that it is a very expensive option to make use of, and for that alone I think most wouldn’t use it.

With regards to Ice and Black-ice being difficult to get, is from the perspective that you actually need the proper gear, consumables and having to travel to get it, obviously the higher level one is, the more likely one would be to be able to survive there and get the materials. Black-ice requires the correct training/feat and tools to be able to mine, which makes it impossible to mine until one has that - and if one isn’t making use of the gamepedia or other sources of reference, then there is no telling when one will unlock the training and the tools that will allow one to mine the black-ice.
