Thrall not wielding weapons

When I equip a weapon on a Thall, he automatically unequip it in like 5 seconds, returning it to his inventory. That’s suposed to happen as far as I remember. But the thing is when I go to a fight, the thrall ALWAYS fight with his fists, not using a weapon.
