"Too Close to Another Object of the Same Type" - "Cannot move this object any further"

WTF??

That is all.

Need a bit more context. What is it you’re trying to place/move? Where? On what? What commands are you using?

This is the error message you get when placing teleporters too close together

So, yeah, this is a fun bug and could probably stand to be reported properly. From what I remember, moving an object works the same way as placing a new one: you have a silhouette that you’re trying to place, and the code is checking if you’re allowed to place it there.

Unfortunately, the implementation is a little too lazy: for objects with special restrictions, the original that you’re trying to move still counts as being in the world. For example, when you’re trying to move a thrall, the game won’t let you place it “too close” to its original position, because it acts as if you’re placing a new thrall and counts the original as “too close”.

I believe the same thing is happening in this case, which is weird, because Funcom usually doesn’t let you move placeables that have restrictions like that (e.g. altars), but maybe they relaxed that since I stopped playing or maybe they missed something.

At any rate, that behavior is technically a bug, but usually not a big deal. Here, however, it’s coupled with the restrictions on how far you can move a placeable, which makes it much more annoying.

I know. It was a rhetorical comment.

I didn’t like where my Altar was placed, so I tried moving it but it wouldn’t go where I wanted it, so I placed it down temporarily and tried moving it again. I kept getting the message “Too close to another object of the same type”, so I would move it further then it would say “Can’t move it that far” and poof from my cursor. Seems hilarious now in retrospect, but was a bit frustrating at the time.

I couldn’t move my actual finished Web of Zath, I had to dismantle it and lost the resources, but it let me move the original altar, that’s what I was dealing with. And yea, it is a fun bug eh?

Ya I am not sure when they “allowed” moving altars. Possibly with the onset of Age of Sorcery maybe? Then we could move placeables, so chests, benches, beds, etc.,… then at some point after, probably a hotfix or update later, suddenly you could move transportory stones, summoning circles and religious altars. Except we see these errors most of the time when trying. It’s very touchy for sure.

Do you happen to have another altar close by?

No, it’s the only altar I have. i still don’t understand the benefits of religion and I just have this one Altar, the Web of Zath. I kept upgrading it to a full Web but all I wound up getting was some new outfits I could make and some other strange objects that I don’t yet understand. I think maybe I also have a new religious tool, not sure.

The purpose of the religious altars, from a pragmatic standpoint, are to benefit from the additional craftables and as an end result: summoning avatars.

Ancient history: summoning a protection bubble and altar light.

Otherwise some consider having the T3’d altar visible on the map as being prestigious, they role play or for aesthetics.

The craftables, aside from additional armors and weapons, vary from altar to altar. Set has potions that remove poison, disease and other status effects for instance. Zath has the globe of yezud which is a weapon that spawns a spider.

The avatars you summon are giant forms of the god that you control and can be used to destroy flora and Fauna, NPCs, monsters and for PVP: bases. On PVE an avatar can be used to raid the siege of Al-Meryah.

In order to summon an avatar you’ll need a T4 priest of the sect and 500 zeal. The religious tool you can craft is used in a sacrificial ritual performed on dead NPCs where you’ll receive favor. This favor is used to convert to zeal on the altar. There are craftables that also create zeal. Once you summon the True Name avatar, the altar is destroyed and T4 priest vanishes. The True Name token is placed in your inventory and you can interact with it to summon.

Great response, Kikigril (as always), thanks. I’ve used the religious tool regularly to get the venom-blood needed to make the craft able spider weapons, and I tried several but didn’t find them very effective in combat, so I just started saving the venom blood in the hopes that once I got to a Web the venom-blood could be used for something more useful. Meanwhile, I collected enough Zeal to upgrade to the Web. Unfortunately, when you try to move a Web, it apparently does a Dismantle instead of Remove (which I didn’t notice at the time), so I lost most of my building materials and now have to start over with an altar. This is where I ran into the peaceable problem.

What are the craft able clothes for? I captured Gretchen the Weaver and placed her on my Web, but I haven’t been able to put the clothes on her. Who are those meant for?

Yes, the coupling of those two restrictions is maddening. You have to move the object far enough away to avoid the “Too close” message, but then you run into the “too far” message lol. It’s a struggle to find the sweet spot and the terrain in between does not always cooperate. I’ll report it as a bug, thanks.

For you or follower thralls

Any T4 priest is considered like a worker thrall, such as on crafting benches.

Zath…
Use the dagger to harvest spiders .

Another cool suggestion for Zath orbs, create a small plateau before your treasury and through occasional an orb to the incoming hoards, it will keep them busy and your archers from above will be happy .

Ah, just when we found a good source of Gossamer for some silk, and tons of spiders. I just learned what happens when I use the Zath tool on a spider. I get those Zathite bags, which are very handy for Ichor and Silk. Thanks for the tip!

By the way, what do you mean by “orbs”, do you mean the little spider globes? That sounds like a fun plan for our next Purge! They haven’t been all that helpful to me generally, but this might be a great application for them.

Exactly, just use one at the time and throw it away from your. It will absorb some agro and it will weakened it if not kill it.

  1. These orbs, globes, whatever .
  2. All the weak useless pets
  3. Golems, we gather so many pieces, some tar or obsidian to their parts and purge…
  4. Token of friendship.
  5. Mercenary banners
  6. Zombies

Can be your only casualty on purges, keep your thralls safe behind to guard your treasury
