I like a lot of people, unlocked the rat catcher’s whistle and whistled up a rat.
I did this at my level up base that I have out leveled and am dismantling to move way north. But what about the rat?
I can’t move the rat. No reason to leave any part of the base. Maybe a fishing dock.
Is the rat tethered to a spot or a foundation?
Is he doomed to swim in the bay for eternity?
I’d love to be able to rename mine to Templeton.

I’d have to check, but one of the journey rewards is the rat catchers whistle, it calls a rat to where you blow the whistle; one per rat. You can’t do anything with the rat.
It’s the beast master journey that you get it from.
I was so sad. I had no idea what it was the first day. I had no thrall with me, so I let it out. It is now in the middle desert all alone far away. I run into it sometimes. I tell it if I could I would bring you home to my barn. I love you little rat. Even though you are so far away I will always love you.
When I was working at a pet store years ago, it freaked mom’s out when they asked what the best small pet for a child was and I said a rat. Rats have a curious nature, they are as clean as their environment, they’re not bitey, they’re not hyper, they are quit healthy, are big enough to handle easy, and tend to be pretty loyal.
My favorite is gerbils, but they tend to be hyper, nocturnal, and do best with a couple friends.
I may just leave part of my old base and do something RP with it, make it look like an old dock with a rat; maybe a few, running around on it.
So I’ll assume it is tethered to a spot. And for this rat that spot is out in the water if I remove all the foundations.
oh i had the same questions few day ago, unfortunatelly you cant interact with it like a follower, at least i didint find how, but in followers that you can break the bound. Its a pitty it having to count as folower, i would like to put 3 or for in the sewers or catacomb but, every follower is precious to defend the base.

I just woke up. It has been 7 hours. My rat is still here at my house. Thank you again for the idea to try rescue.
I think we get more of these in da future.
Now, you cant really do much with rat, cat or new iron doggo, probably it gonna be smth like decorative pet followers update, we get more variants, interactions and etc.
But now, it just how it works.
Makes me think of a pet mod that every RP server uses.

Emberlight has various pet placeables, usually a bed for the pet, as well as emotes. Funcom might catch up one day.
