Wheel of Pain issue

I am unable to create thralls using the wheel of pain, I place the gruel and the captured character into the wheel hit play and and it never produces a thrall for me, the crafting status doesn’t even appear in the bottom right corner.

On PS4, the left trigger starts and stops the stations. The start button does nothing on consoles.
