No clue if it were intentional or not, but it’s been that way since I started (~8K hours ago) and confused me, also causing problems when logging in. I had no idea whether it were dawn or dusk; important in starting an Unnamed City run. More on why later.
The sandstorm runs from the west, turns right slightly past that city and exits south. That did change a while back and was a source of many conversations. It used to run farther east.
Now to add to the earthly confusion, your shadows don’t align at all with the position of the sun, leading to the question, what time is it?
Since you’re on an official, you don’t have access to a couple of mods that tell you the time of day and alter the path of the sandstorm, sorry.
Since it’s come up quite a few times over the past couple of years and the modding community felt it important enough to compensate, I thought the basis was some weird polar shift envisioned by the original developers and nevermore to be dealt with. So I just accepted it and moved on.
We don’t have mods on our dedicated server, so when logging in, I started asking ‘is it dawn or dusk?’ in global and have a good idea of where the sandstorm covers.
So, no help here, just experience of the oddities, and acceptance.
I noticed this too, and thought it wasn’t intentional. But if there was a polar-shift, then that explains it. As for the shadow following the sun, it seems to work…
