Those are all good points, and true. And hear me out, exactly why I don’t want to farm hides that way. Every time I try to do a general purpose run to collect a variety of things, I hate the experience. I don’t run a full encumbrance build, so having to prioritize what I’m going to drop and what I’m going to keep factors in to it some. But mostly, I like my farming trips to be targeted. I want to go the the store, get what’s on my shopping list, and get out quick as I can. Hyenas, crocs, and Dafari are ridiculously easy to kill. They don’t slow me down much at all. Port in to the dregs obelisk, jump down, and skin everything on my walk back home. Pretending for a moment that I didn’t hate going to the Mounds in general, the mobs and NPC’s slow me down a lot. They do give quality loot, and there are great NPC’s to choose from if you want new recruits. There’s no denying that. But it turns a 20 minute trip into a 1 hour trip, and that spoils it for me. Get in, get the goods, and gtfo. That’s how I like my farming runs.
I had four of them in the pre-leveling era. They look very cool, but they were clumsy idiots. I haven’t tested one since, because getting one is a pain (even with a mod that increases Ladagara’s spawning rate), leveling one up is a pain, and if it’s still a clumsy idiot, it’s wasted effort. So I would be very interested in hearing whether they’re actually useful now.
I any case, I think New Asagarth is more valauble for the byproducts of a hide harvesting mission rather than being an optimal spot for hide harvesting per se.
Ain’t that the truth. Even more so if you’re outfitting your archers with Hyrkanian jeans (I just made new trousers for nine archers yesterday, and six of them got boots too when I ran out of elephant hides). Rhino hides, maybe, but elephant hides are much too valuable as they are, unless you live right next to an elephant farm.
That is why I was saying the FGB is overlooked by just about everyone… Everyone is going by old info and thinks it is useless.
Run an encumberance build.
Run the river circle killing the crocs and hyenas you see on the way and hit all the iron and brimstone nodes on the way and in the 3 brimstone and one of the crystal caves on the rout. There are trees, dry trees, aloe, yellow louts, stone, coal basically every resource apart from black ice.
They’re called Exiles, but the description is otherwise accurate.
(Sorry, I know it was a typo, but it was toooooo funny not to make fun of.)
Very good tips, but I prefer my base to be around Set City so most of those resources are close to home, apart from crystal, black ice, and star metal
It’s a shame the crystal in the silver mine can’t be harvested, not that crystal is difficult to come by. Apparently black ice can be found in Klaels stronghold but I haven’t ventured there yet so don’t know for certain.
Right? It’s there teasing you, blocking you from collecting all the stone.
For massive run, yes, but on PVE you can get 2000 easy from the Warmakers while you run for scraps and yog’s touch. And if you circle the dungeon a few times , as it re-spawns by the time you have ran it. so in about 2 hours, 6,000-8,000 black ice, 5-20 weapons, 3 or 4 att books, and enough scraps for a 2-3 pieces of the god breaker armor at minimum. Even Elephant, gold, and fur. If you have top tier thrall, you run as the encumbrance and scoop all the loot and heal you master as they need it.
Frost temple. When I leveled up my thrall, I found a lot of skins and tar.
Mounds of the Dead NPCs too hard to kill for hides and results in lower efficiency? No this is not true at all unless you are not level 60, running a poor fighting spec, and/or running with subpar weapons and armor.
I can casually clear mounds of the dead in 10 to 11 minutes. Probably faster if I tried. So for even Mounds of the Dead, I have to wait for repops. So the respawn timer is again the limiting factor for efficiency.
The key is upping your damage potential. I run with a high damage horse (300%+ damage bonus), use a heavy saddle, and always stay mounted. I shred all NPCs in seconds with very little damage to either my horse or me. I also run with a T4 fighter thrall with flawless epic strength armor and legendary weapon. The armor I wear is flawless epic with strength stats (guardian). Spec is 50 strength, 30 vitality.
+1
Have a Camel follow you
Eat spiced food
bring a pickaxe
teleport to frost temple obelisk
run below the stairs while naked, avoiding the frost giants
harvest all the black ice
realize you have about 50 hp remaining and have frostbite
give pickaxe and black ice to camel
suicide
wait 30 mins
see that camel has returned home
pick up inventory of black ice and pickaxe
rinse repeat
You can set Camel AI to attack nothing.
Warbannering doesn’t work on a PVP server.
