I am writing to express my frustration regarding the recent ‘Enhanced’ (Unreal Engine 5) update. Since the patch, I am completely unable to launch Conan Exiles. The game crashes or simply fails to start every time I try to open it.
My PC specs were able to run the Legacy (UE4) version without major issues, but this new mandatory update has effectively locked me out of a game I paid for. It is extremely disappointing to see the official servers move exclusively to a version that many players with mid-range or older setups can no longer access.
Are there any plans to optimize the Enhanced version for lower-end hardware, or will we be permanently forced to play on Legacy private servers only? I literally cannot enter the game anymore.
I have dedicated 888 hours of my life to this game. I’ve built kingdoms, survived the exiled lands, and supported this project for years, only to be told now that I can no longer play because of this ‘■■■■■■’ update. It is a complete slap in the face to veteran players who have been here since the beginning but don’t happen to have high-end NASA computers. To be locked out of my own progress and the official servers after nearly 900 hours of loyalty is absolutely unacceptable
In the over 5000 hours I have played, this has happened 3 times, with very long wait times to re enter game. Not down playing your frustration, just letting you know your not alone. Currently can not play a 4 year old server due to mod dependency, and the 3 official servers played all have over 370 ping. One today had 125 in the AM, then 2 hours later was over 1000.
My laptop can barely run Windows 11, so no chance with Conan Exiles (regardless whether it’s Legacy or Enhanced version). And there is no way on this earth I could afford to buy a decent gaming rig to play on, but where there’s a will, there’s a way…

I pay just under £10 a month and have Enhanced on Ultra Settings and loving every bug ridden moment of it!
Tested my old Laptop that i don’t use anymore. On low settings UE5 Conan run solid 25-30 fps, but i have some lag spikes cause the HDD is in his way out(HDD was at 100% all the time game was running). laptop specs are belowe minimum specs needed.
As an example, I can mention Rockstar Games, which made its enchanted version, but did not force any player to use GTA V in the more beautiful version and did not interfere with their online progress; both legacy and enchanted players can play together. Without requiring you to buy a new computer as if it were a bundled purchase. I bought the game in 2023 so that it would run on my machine with my specifications, but now they say that the game I selected has others and that I can no longer play.
The legacy version still exists, but I can’t play on the official and private servers with it, only offline, thus losing my accounts
It would be the same as buying a snack of flavor X, and in the middle of your snack the company took your snack and changed it to Y, and if you don’t meet the requirements to eat more, do something else because the problem is yours.
I get that it is frustrating and I genuinely feel for anyone whose PC isn’t able to run Enhanced, especially given how expensive everything is right now.
That said, losing access to a game is inevitable. Many games shut down with no hope of continuing. No private servers, nothing. One of my favorite games of all time is Friday the 13th: The Game. I can’t play it anymore unless I play on a fan server that always have issues with hackers and exploiters.
Funcom did better than most would. You can still get a private server and play online. You can still join other private servers. And Conan is not dying, it’s continuing on with Enhanced and now has a better platform for future support. Not too many games as old as Conan get a second chance at life.
Not to mention there are plenty of options out there to play games on weaker hardware. GeForce Now, Boosteroid.
It sucks, yes. But it had to happen. And Funcom is handling it better than most.
i don’t know where you take that GTA 5 legacy and enhanced are the same, i knew from the beginning that it had separate player pools and if you google it you get the same
It suck yea that weaker hardware players will be left behind. But let’s face the truth, end of the day Funcome is a Business, they took the risk to upgrade whole game and servers, by looking player numbers it paid off
