A Sad sad day in Conan Exiles

Yeah of course when I say “almost always” I mean for almost every adventure, I’m not talking about playtime. I take a thrall with me for dungeons and to catch new thralls, those activities are by definition those that require the most travel. Even if I decide to go catching new thralls alone, I’ll not be able to drag the thrall with my horse. I ensure to build near all needed ressources thus my horse is useless for gathering, I don’t need it either when I’m in my base or when building. So even if I don’t always need a horse nor a thrall, they are both useful at the same moment. But I guess it’s all about habits and playstyle.

Short version : New Momentum -> climbing (downwards complete) spoiled.
played the last days something else while waiting for the first fix. Too many small bugs.

I feel you. I uninstalled the game. No plans on getting back on it unless they go back to old movement.

Clickbait title will get attention so I’ll ask here;

What’s this noise about the system being ‘Clunky’ ? Is it due to lag or something? The system is smooth as hell compared to the old arcade style start-stop 0 or 100 speedy go-go. The only guff I see is the drastic slow down during a turn, if they shortened the minimum radius of a ‘slowing’ turn I reckon it’ll buff right out. Oh and the power-stance bug lol.

Y’all every played the original Day-Z mod for ARMA II? Now that was the definition of clunky. I still get nightmares about interior stair cases.

You’ll all get used to it eventually, Uncle Me says so. :muscle: :muscle:

I feel exactly the same way about the new slug movement. Watching your character struggle to take a step just sucks the fun out of the game for me.

You may not play this way and go solo wherever you go without a thrall, but I pretty much have a thrall by my side at all times. They tank world bosses, they help me knock out other thralls, they pull aggro when I’m in my farm build, etc.

There is no reason to not have a thrall with me. I also am on a PVE server so mounted combat doesn’t exist for me. Sure I could bring a horse into a city and run down the townsfolk - but that’s about it. I’m sure that would get old quick.

So if I have choose between a horse and a thrall, a thrall is 10,000 x more useful in my style of gameplay. The fact that no one thought of this when designing mounts and while adding a leveling system that takes a long time to level thralls is puzzling to me and feels incompatible. If I have to level 100 thralls to from 1 - 20 at 4 hours minimum per thrall, that’s at least 400 hours of not using a mount. That’s already a significant portion of my total game time this year. So leveling thralls IS a specific use case of the incompatibility.

It’s unfortunate such a great update can leave you with feelings like that, especially when our Community is supposed to build you up. I’m in complete agreement that this game has received a veritable boost. The new systems feel integrated and consistent, for once. No longer may I drift endlessly in the air on descent from a height, I’ve got to plan my “smear” down the face or I’ll end up in the chowder. I must commit to motion, and there is subtlety built in. Feels like a polished, professional combat and motion system, at long last.

There’s a saying in Louisville, KY, where I have kin: “That ole guy needs either a red corvette or a red dress.” Conan was feeling a little middle-aged, and now it seems as if he received both. :red_car: :dancer:t2:

Hitting the back key will stop you virtually instantly for those complaining about forward momentum when you stop. Not rocket science and its not WoW.

For what it’s worth, my fiance and I have enjoyed the update. We have had no problems with any of it. I especially like the new dodging and inertia changes. I think it makes the game less ‘easy’, and more fun.

Yeah it is more fun if you are the masochistic type of person who enjoys getting their fingernails pulled and stuff. I never had more “fun” trying to get from one crafting station to the next and asking myself why my character is glued to the ground…

While I agree in part, the momentum is in desperate need of adjustment. I’ve been trying really hard to get used to it, but there is nothing that will convince me certain aspects of it are fun or realistic.

Look, I’m overweight, but not obese. I am a sedentary person. I’m really, really out of shape. And even I can run up a flight of stairs without freaking falling off. I can’t do it for long, on account of my shape, but what little I can do, I can manage without pratfalls and bone-breaking accidents.

So if I, who wouldn’t last 5 minutes in a harsh world like the Exiled Lands, can navigate some damn stairs, I would expect the muscular barbarian to be able to do that as well.

So much for realism. But regardless of whether it’s realistic, it’s just. Not. Fun.

The dodge is a whole different beast and I love it. The momentum? For Crom’s sake, tweak it

Natural? The game literally feels as if it is going into slow motion every time you start moving or roll.
It feels like an entirely artificial slowdown effect, which in no way harmonizes with the rest of the movement set of the character - or the non-player NPCs’ for that matter.
For me personally this unnatural slo-mo movement is the most immersion-breaking element in the game right now.

I’ve been running around the map and working on continued building projects. Deleting thralls I don’t need etc. I’ve noticed map objects that bring my character to a halt. Just parts of the map that block movement, like an incline or stone that is part of the map (not one that can be interacted with). I started mentally mapping out pathways that have obstructions around my base and paths I take to outposts and what not. I think that these obstructions were always there but is far more noticeable with the patch? What may have just been a stutter is now a full halt. I dunno, but maybe this patch is just unearthing existing problems and making them far more apparent?

This! You nailed it perfectly! At least, for me… I think the only reason I would EVER use a horse on the PVE server I call home, might be to go around around and check on our clan’s various outposts, and check the reset timers. There is literally no other reason I can think of to use a horse on a PVE server…

You missed the forest for the trees. I’m not talking about the Warmaker’s Dungeon specifically, or any dungeon. I’m talking about choosing between faster travel and having the thrall you will need once you arrive at your destination. You were so intent on disproving me you missed the thought exercise completely. ANYWHERE you go, you will need a thrall. Gathering resources? You need a bearer thrall. You can either get to the resource quickly and not have the carry capacity you’ll need to do any serious gathering, or get there slower with your bearer thrall in tow. The horses are basically good for sightseeing and mounted combat. Anything else, you’ll do better to leave them at home.

Please don’t take me wrong for disagreeing with that. I’m not trying to dismiss your playstyle, just point out that certain things can be achieved in multiple different ways.

I have honestly never found a bearer or a camel useful. When I go on my farming run, I respec and change my armor and I go full enc.

Unfortunately, the horse isn’t going to be very useful there. Most of the best farming places are within a reasonable distance of an obelisk, so a horse is not going to be critical when getting to the farming spot. And I sure as hell can’t use it to go back, because it can’t gallop if I’m overencumbered and I’m not gonna trot on it, because it’s faster to just sprint.

There are some strategies that can be used there, but all in all, neither a thrall nor a mount is very helpful for someone who optimizes farming.

On a map where almost everything worth visiting is within easy reach of an Obelisk and that even without obelisks can be crossed in a few minutes? Seriously?

this very same argument was used when discussion whether or not we should have mounts but here we are.

What i am more sad about is the thralls are still the same. I start combat and the thrall will stand there for 10 seconds before joining in

I do hope we get a slider for follower xp gain and/or they allow thralls/pets to gain xp without following such as during a purge when they are actively fighting. Or when random animal/thrall rolls up on my base and they take of it.
