About new report system

A little side story:
(You can skip this and read the Conclusion at the bottom of this post)

I currently play on EL EU PVE #1010 and Siptah EU PVE #6423 as main game, just playing and progessing normally.
The Siptah 6423 is actually quite decent, runs pretty well even with +10 players on it, there are some big bases that breaks the rules of TOC, but the server feels spacious and no matter what area you want to build in there’s room.
The EL #1010 is also mostly decent except for a few players that have absolutely massive bases/cities spread out in most areas, especially around Sepermeru where you can pretty much forget about trying to have anything but a small outpost since especially 1 specific player owns most of the area, he has from what I hear been reported repeatedly by several players without anyone taking the reports seriously and he is clearly mocking other players by grabbing areas that become available if a base in a desired area becomes available and build something putting up a “For Sale“ sign in front of it, I dare not ask what that means, but apparently he and others know that they can get away with just about anything building wise, so they do it, the server runs decently as long the player count is below 5-10.

I read in a thread here about a player complaing about 1 guy on a server he played on claiming all the land he could get his hands on around Sepermeru So I decided to check it out to see if really was that bad, and yeah it was really bad :joy:

After creating a char on EL #1090, the first thing I was met with was a Noob river mostly covered in absolutely gigantic bases, bridges connecting pretty much all islands there, foundation/pillar spam under water to ensure that no one would be able to build near them, so I quickly ran towards Sepermeru which from a distance looked pretty ok until I saw more of it… It felt like I had landed in Las Vegas, absolutely gigantic bases, several skyscrapers with hundreds of lights with roughly 1 per time and floor, an absolutely insane amount of decoratives so that it all together brought my I9 14900 cpu, RTX4090 with 64 gb ram to its knees making it look like a slideshow in some places, it was absolutely horrible and I could never even consider playing on that server long time

Some days ago I decided to do a small challenge:
Pick a random pve server(PVE EU #1000), I set some rules about not being allowed to craft any tools, weapons or armor except for the building hammer, and only use fast levelling thralls as followers to make sure I would be the main fighter + I was allowed to die, but avoid it at any cost, I was supposed to play as a thief only taking stuff from npc’s and their camps
So I ran to noob river just to get some water and food and whatever loot I could find in exiled camp chests which was litterally nothing, so I quickly headed towards Sepermeru to loot some of their chests there in hope of some tools and I got some, however this was where I suddenly realized how bad this server performed and how hard it would be to just find a spot for a tiny base in the area around Sepermeru :joy:
I did manage to find a spot where I could fit a tiny base, out in desert close to the cursed map wall.

I was quickly welcomed by some of the regulars asking me to come to them to recieve a bunch of high tier gifts and an offer from them to be levelled to 60 within a day or 2, but thanked them no since I wanted to actually play and progress naturally.
The server ran absolutely horribly once there was +5 players online or just later in afternoon, the server had frequent crashes and otherwise struggled to keep up with what players did, for example it could take as long as 10-30 seconds after opening an inventory before you could actually see what was in it and act with it, even transfering between the character inventory and a chest/crafting stations often had several seconds delay from clicking it and until it was done, opening a door could also take some seconds before it did, and most of the time npc’s and wildlife was either standing still stuttering or teleporting around, it was a complete mess.

One thing stood out though and that was the chat was very active, lots of friendly players, sometimes a bit too friendly like with their gifts and wanting to take care of every new player, but they were generally nice, and so I asked them why they built so huge and in so many places, and some said they liked to build and also wanted to build impressive welcoming buildings so new players would feel the good community there.
I told them that the majority of players just want to play the game, progress normally without getting everything handed to them, and possibly be able to settle down in a nice area and not be forced out to the outmost areas because everything was claimed in many interesting areas.
As bad as EU PVE #1000 official server performs, I have to credit it for a good and talkative community, although they tend to misunderstand what new players come for, but I still won’t recommend it for long term play, it is just too overbuilt and broken.

Conclusion:

Zendesk never really worked that well, and it seems like the current Helpshift isn’t being maintained any better, probably even worse.

The problems with a report system is that rules of conduct means nothing if they do not act on reports.
Many players never really think about others than themselves and if the game has no hard limitations, it tends to become messy, especially if the only way you can do something is use a reporting system.

In my opinion, a game like Conan Exiles being almost limitless in many areas needs active server moderation like for example community managers, mods or whatever that daily or weekly pick some servers that they examine to check for clear rule breaking and act on it.
Having a report system is good, but it can’t stand alone, official servers need active moderation or it will end like it has… A wild west where most don’t care and just do whatever they want within rules or not, there are a few so-called “decent“ servers with not too much rule breaking left, but they are becoming more and more rare as time goes by

Official servers never were good, but at least they once tried to manage them, I highly doubt it will get any better, especially since they have their new game Dune to take care of, Conan Exiles is mostly just getting some bread crumbs once in a while when they have time, mostly small updates/fixes with long periods of radio silence between, for as long players are buying stuff from the Bazaar, enough to make the investors happy, so best bet would be, either accept officials servers as they are or find a different hopefully better one, or in the end play singleplayer or on a good private server!

Conan Exiles is despite its spaghetti code and many bugs an amazing idea on paper and also a good game, probably among the best survival games because of its lore, look, feel and many ways to play it however you like, but it doesn’t age too well.
