Age of Heros - Good news! Ultra rare Shieldwrights and Bladesmiths now murderable!

Today’s Dev Livestream:

Per today’s Livestream - our illustrious game leadership team at Funcom is adding a new feature! In the first chapter of Age of Heros:

You can have your ultra rare Shieldwrights and Bladesmiths murdered! That’s right! Those followers that you worked so hard to obtain… one raid and a few stray bombs… and they’re DEAD! Flattened! Because they will all be placed like Cimmerian Berserker and Dalinsia and Thugra and Shemite Fighter II now. You can have them get merked instead of kidnapped the next time you are raided! Yay!!

Per Dennis:
“There is basically no difference between a fighter and a blacksmith now. You place them in the world the same way. Convert them. Use the item to put them on the ground.”

:rage: :rage: :rage:

I honestly cannot comprehend the game direction and the game leadership for this title. I genuinely do not understand. Funcom - why do you hate your player community so much? @Community @AndyB @den

So that edgesmith you spent hours repeatedly looking for can fall into foundations just like their fighter friends? Nice :ok_hand:

To be fair, they have increased how to get thralls now as well. We have the WoP methods, the purge will be available for crafters, and also the cages are accessible in EL.

How is this different, if you place your crafter thralls in a purge base. Explosive golems and star caller will wreck it in seconds, they will turn into a loot bag and dissappear if you missed it during the wreck.

These dudes don’t play their own game.

Please don’t take this as targeting you. It is not.

My Brother @Cauthey plays honest PvP, where raids are raids and men are scared.

If his personnel are on a bench, it is because he placed them there while doing what I consider to be an unbeatable amount of gathering and/or adventuring during Raid. He does not turtle. He leaves it out there, and occasionally is caught crafting.

To lose these amazing assets by dumb luck or a bad stroke of a sword is tragic. It shows what we’re up against.

I actually find this a good thing. Conan Exiles has been far too easy for far too long. Worker thralls NEED to be vulnerable. There should be the pain of loss when you get raided or fail to protect important assets.

But I agree, this does make fixing the “fall through foundations” bug even more imperative to fix ASAP.

So those thralls are gonna count against my thrall limit that hasn’t been increased? Great :frowning:

Guess I won’t be able to gift extra thralls either to newer players. Exciting :frowning:

Don’t have your thralls then in the open outside or near where the battles take place?

I always have a basement area under my bases where my important workstations are at.

This change only effects players who have giant box bases where all their stuff is in one room.

Well…
This one was just going to drown them in the Dagon Dungeon anyway…

What would be more amusing is the ability to Liberate someone’s slaves.
After or during a raid, strike their chains and set them free…

Except…
Now they aren’t all slaves.
Now they may be hired (this one assumes from the tavern as well with the coming update) or even rescued.
Perhaps a morale system to see if followers abandon you can come next?

Yes, this does change the stakes of raids now.
It lowers the spoils by quite a bit and ups the damage to be inflicted. Because if you can steal a slave, that slave can be stolen right back.

The other question, if the smiths and alchemists are just like fighters…
Will they level like them?
Will they have HP like them?
As matters stand, when Barkeepers level up, they gain cluck all.
This is, in this one’s opinion, a mistake.
While the crafters and such don’t need Berzerker level hp and combat skills… They do need a little more life insurance than just the DBNO system.

Will they flee from enemies attacking the base?
How far and how smart?

On the clan and walls side of PvP, this is a huge change.
As a solo locust, it does little to change this one’s style, but it will definitely impact the prey.

If it was all ugly boxes before. Now it will be hermetically sealed bunkers all around.

Excellent idea. Perhaps even a reputation system, too. Get in good with the Black Hand pirates and maybe you can sell them slaves or buy slaves off of them? Discount prices for high reputation? But also, getting on good terms with the Black Hand pirates puts you at a disadvantage with, say, the Stygians, or something. Increasing a reputation with one faction puts you at a disadvantage with others? Could make for some interesting dynamics.

To answer your question, no, they said worker thralls would NOT level like combat thralls. They will be weak. Some are smart enough to flee, but some aren’t (and may freeze in place, cowering as they face the end of their lives). Worker thralls will be vulnerable to raids and need to be protected.

They will get gassed. So - I suppose while playing dress up with your super rare armor maker, you best cover his face with an ugly gas mask.

“Hey! Why are all my thralls dead?” Because they got gassed, Timmy. Because they all got gassed.

“Hey Cauthey! Do you have a T3 or T3 Blacksmtih that you would be willing to trade?”

NOPE. They’re all placed in the world now. No more trades for key and rare thralls. Sorry Charlie.

Because NO ONE puts artisan (crafter) thralls in a purge base. No one.

I’m not going to complain because I repeatedly wished the game was harder. Sure, on PvP servers it may be a completely different dimension. Nevertheless, I still believe that such changes meet my desire for a more difficult game.

They are vulnerable. They can be kidnapped / stolen. That’s pretty vulnerable.

What is happening now will allow a war on artisan thralls, where people will go and raid or grief others simply for the purpose of killing KEY rare artisan thralls that took a month or more to find and convert.

give them gas masks. Granted i’m on a PVE-C server so i don’t have to worry about thralls being killed by other players. And since i built a Japanese castle with various floors for all my workstations, All of my thralls are going to be safe since i have guards positioned on the front of the castle and its walls and inside the throne room Where the Treasury is.

But, on a PVP server it’s a completely different ball game so. No idea.

Fact.

What we wanted: Can we just have an option to change our crafter’s clothes?

What we got: Best we can do is to make them killable.

Oh, I had not thought of this.

Terrific! Goodbye rare Alphonze the Hammer, gassed while he was having chow! Hello Hyrkanian Fighter I from the locked cages! Yay Age of Heros. Yay Funcom.

To be honest, and this is coming from the most killable thrall in the game, this feature has actually helped get my NPC to more people. Our friend M texted me a few months ago that she’d finally gotten one of me. That used to take a lot of effort, I was touched.

Then I realized Barnes probably just arrived. Womp Womp.

Doesn’t lessen the blow of seeking, finding the right Crafter, or even letting serendipity shine on a ride back home. All those moments are lost, and I think it further cheapens the experience to have glass crafters (Low HP). Best not to place them at all.
