I looked it up and apparently it is intentional they were shut off, though i didn’t see the reason why.
Any chance we can get an option to have them on or off and the same going for light beams from “event” alters?

They’re trying to ruin the game. This is just one more thing they didn’t need to mess with, that no one asked for but they did it anyway.
Beams have been used for stuff like Mek-kemosses’s spire and stuff since then… so I’m guessing no to avoid confusion, but who knows. there’s always a chance.
Alter beam make it look really powerful, mighty.
Looked nice too.
Yeah removing cool things from game, that were in for years its not cool.
They should go make new game instead
I don’t miss the light beams from the altars. They made some places in the game look like Las Vegas.
I for one am glad the light beams are gone. I found it cluttered up the map. I prefer the idea that a skybeam means something is going on at that location like mek’s spire or the new alter to Jebbhal Sag.
May Set be with you
They removed It Because It lagged servers too think about a server where 10 Clans play and all Clans have aleast 3 altars It like 30 big lights in the sky like @wolffspider talked a big Las Vegas.
Due to the proximity limitation on altars, the sky beams had negligible effect on server performance. The number of torches that would likely occupy the same amount of space as an altar’s area of influence would negatively impact performance far more than a single sky beam.
Warning: Impassionate Rant Alert
I completely and unequivocally agree with this request @LonePlayer. Since we lost our shrine lights and god bubbles creative builders have lost their large scale creative light options and it really blows. At the absolute, bare minimum, we should be given an Admin Setting so that Singleplayers and Private Server Admins can still use them. But I will go one better and agree they should be returned to ALL players with a toggle on/off setting. I also do not buy into the lame assed excuse that people ‘need’ them to locate event objectives. It is a cop out. Take the Sacred Hunt Event. If someone is too inept to follow the remarkably detailed directions offered by the Herald of Jhebbel Sag in Sepermeru, and the Flesh Map found on every prowling werehyena, then they do not deserve to partake in it. It is a Survival game for heavens sake, and I do not wish to see it further casualised or dumbed down.
Offline, fine.
Online pve, hell no.
Truth be told, they need to remove them from the map markers as well.
In fact, the sky beams had no effect whatsoever on server performance. The server does not render sky beams, the client does.
And as you already pointed out, the proximity limitations coupled with the rendering distance make the impact on any non-potato client negligible.
I don’t know what it is that makes people pull all sorts of “alternative facts” about performance out of their ass on a regular basis, but it’s hilarious.
As for the request, yeah, it would be nice to have the beams back. They were a nice aesthetic touch.
If the ‘load’ is client side, maybe they could add a client side toggle to have them on or off? Similar to the way they already do for displaying ‘sheathed’ weapons (I dislike floating weapons so switch them off as default). Obviously, that would need to exempt the quest marker beams for those that want them (which would probably lead to some sort of weird issue…), but it would seem to satisfy the most players.
I enjoyed the beams as an aesthetic option - maybe not the most important thing, but it certainly created the effect I wanted for an old base (and before anyone complains, this was in singleplayer) -
They could, but I’m guessing they won’t. They removed the altar beams right before introducing the Kurak’s dungeon, which had the same beam effect. It looks like they decided to use the effect for event and dungeon beacons, so we’re not likely to get this back.
