Any way to get rid of foliage pop?

I’ve think I’ve tried everything I can think of with console/.ini edits and I can not get rid of the foliage pop in/out. Anything I am missing for this?

If you have access to the .ini files on your console, you can try adding the following lines under:

[SystemSettings]

foliage.LODDistanceScale=5
foliage.ditheredLOD=0
foliage.MinimumScreenSize=0.00000001

I play on PC, so you’ll have to let me know if that helped or hurt your cause. Too much render stress on a console can kill the overall performance and ruin your gaming experience.

PC and running our own small private server. Nothing gets rid of the foliage popping in and out.

Using Scale setting Cine mode as a base and then tweaking Engine ini override from there. But that popping foliage is one thing no settings will get rid of. I’ve researched UE4 spec docs and still no go, nothing seems top affect that foliage issue. Maybe it’s “hard coded”?

That’s a shame, I could’ve swore it was one of those three settings that got rid of it for me. My foliage hasn’t popped in and out for years. I mean don’t get me wrong, everything has to load in and out at some point (buildings, trees, bushes, etc.) but they load (render) in and out for me way off in the distant horizon instead of 40 feet in front of me the way they do by default.

You’re not altering the engine.ini on the server right? You should be altering the engine.ini locally, your client handles the rendering. I also wouldn’t set it under scalability if I were you unless you like to switch settings regularly or have multiple people playing Conan on your computer. Just set your game settings (in game) to whatever you want (cinematic is fine), and then add a few tweaks to the engine.ini file under [SystemSettings].

You can try:

[SystemSettings]
grass.CullDistanceScale=5

If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what to tell you, best of luck.

Yeah doing it local on client. I’ve also tried all the settings in game using the console. And no matter what I get the grass popping in like that. I can’t change it in any way. No settings make it worse or better. it’s so strange!

So you don’t see the grass popping like in my video?

Nope, the grass loads in all the way to the horizon for me, but it used to load in like that before I tweaked my engine.ini file. This may be a stupid question perhaps, but you are shutting the game down completely before you make the changes to your engine.ini file, right? I realize the file will let you save changes while it’s running but the changes won’t take until you restart the game engine and the file overwrites your changes when the game shuts down.

Yeah, doing the changes then starting the game. I have the same issue whether I play local in “single player” just to test or logging into our server. It makes no difference. I entered each of those commands using the console in game as well but the grass pops the same no matter what. Even started a new single player test game, same thing.

Any chance you could share your Engine.ini settings?

Also tried all the Scaled settings, but leave it on Cinematic as my baseline.

I messaged you the file, hope it helps, best of luck to ya.

Thanks I’ll give it a try!

Gave it a try, didn’t solve the issue of the near by grass pop ups. So I tried a totally different computer with and without tweaks, same issue. Then I tried a 3rd computer, a laptop we have… same issue. So all 3 different computers with and without tweaks, not using any mods for the testing and they all have this same grass popping issue.

Starting to think it’s not on my side at this point.

Found the answer…

“It is a known issue. They fixed it, but that fix caused performance issues. Due to the performance issue, they turned it off until they could resolve it.”

So, we wait… :wink:

I’m truly sorry you couldn’t get it to work. :sleepy:
