I’ve tried using them but i just feel all of them are just new dagger sets pretty much, i figure one handed warhammer as kind of a mace sub type, give it the axe move set and we’d be set, from what I’ve read ot sounds like their doing what you suggested and may give different weapon classes multiple move sets like how the great ace has the two different ones now,
The cool part with the Conan universe it’s a lost history of earth, even tho it’s 10000bc the lost cultures are fairly advanced with arms and armour, that’s what i love about the hyborian age so much is the lost history so lances plate armour and all that do fit, it just doesn’t look like it should on the surface of Conan, once you dig into the lore you’ll find a lot of pretty wild stuff in the conan world
YouTube has all the audio books, check out hour of the dragon and you’ll see what i mean about advanced cultures
Flail and one-handed warhammers would probably both just be variants of a one-handed mace.
Whips would probably be difficult to animate, and were extremely rarely used as weapons historically. In fact, the only type that I am aware of aside from Chinese chain whips which are only whips by name is the Russian volkoboy, which was not a whip for war, but for killing wolves in self-defense.
Crossbows have existed in the game for a long time, but are admin-spawn only. They were not fully implemented because they need unique reloading mechanics first. Funcom did not feel they would really add anything to the game to be worth the development time.
Several of the one-handed maces are morningstars, but especially the Iron Mace.
Whips id want as more of a way to deal with animals, wolf comes running whip it or whip crack and make them flee, figured it could be used more as a tool and a weapon as a last resort, be useable mounted and whip crack can scare low tear mobs, but like you all said the animation would be a headache for them to do.
One handed warhammer could be an easy one, next couple new maces just give them a warhammer head and good to go😉
As lame as it sounds I’d actually love a single dagger with the short sword move set of stab n slash
I’ve always been confused with morning-stars and flails, I’ve seen so much conflicting info on them, morning star in my eyes is your mace with a cylinder or round head with spikes or studds and the flail is your ball and chain, that’s how i see it
I can’t say I am unhappy with the additions, they seem fine to me, but they are just another form of dagger.
As for morning stars , etc, well now you are getting into medieval weaponry, and that’s not the age of Conan.
I’d like to be able to collect, and throw fallen enemies heads at other enemies, I mean you can already collect their arms and legs and wield them, why not a head or two?
Maybe some way of implanting them on a spike outside a base, for that exterior design flourish (or interior , if you’re into that)
Yup just more daggers is what they are, someone on the team loves their daggers and it’s starting to become noticeable lol,
One thing i gotta keep telling people is the age of Conan does have those weapons and more, plate mail, morning stars, all those weapons are in the novels, and the legit lore
on the surface i get Conan looks like it wouldnt have advanced technology but once you delve into the novels you’ll be pretty amazed at what there is in the hyboria age
Atlas the game had a gullotine and head mounting system i loved, Conan needs similar
Well Conan does take place around 10000bc, it’s supposed to be a lost history to our modern earth, and they go on to say even more advanced tech was around long before then as well.
Most races in Conan eventually become our modern or past counterparts ie nordheimers become the Norse, cimmarians are gaels and celts
Picts native Americans
So on and on
Plus there’s some collapse im kinda vague on that happens later on where these races pretty much lose all advanced technology and have to start over almost
A great part from hour of the dragon that shows a lot
Chapter 3: The Cliffs Reel
THE AQUILONIAN HOST was drawn up, long serried lines of pikemen and horsemen in gleaming steel, when a giant figure in black armor emerged from the royal pavilion, and as he swung up into the saddle of the black stallion held by four squires, a roar that shook the mountains went up from the host. They shook their blades and thundered forth their acclaim of their warrior king- knights in gold-chased armor, pikemen in mail coats and basinets, archers in their leather jerkins, with their longbows in their left hand.
The host on the opposite side of the valley was in motion, trotting down the long gentle slope toward the river; their steel shone through the mists of morning that swirled about their horses’ feet.
The Aquilonian host moved leisurely to meet them. The measured tramp of the armored horses made the ground tremble. Banners flung out long silken folds in the morning wind; lances swayed like a bristling forest, dipped and sank, their pennons fluttering about them.
Even in real world history, the Summerians are considered the first human ‘civilisation’ and the first to develop a system of writing (cuneiform) and when they collapsed a lot of it was lost, at least those who knew how to read it.
Wouldn’t be too much of a jump to apply the same logic to weapons and armour, at least for the purposes of a fantasy setting.
Kind of, but not really. A lot of fictional settings have called chained flails with spiked balls Morningstars, but traditionally it was just a mace with a large spiked head
Anything with a chain or joint in European medieval combat was most likely a form of flail, which have their origins in threshing crops, so peasants would be familiar with their weight and usage
There is a fairly big debate around the existence and commonality of military flails, or flails designed to be used specifically as weapons
TLDR: Calling chained spiked ball a Morningstars is technically incorrect, however it’s such a common usage in fiction that most people view it as the proper word.
But I do want one handed war hammers and I have since launch. Doesn’t even need a rework. Just use the mace move set or the axe move set and apply sunder instead of bleed
