A simple tweak to have it similar to using one-handed spears and javelins. Where the light attack is a standard attack, the heavy attack is the spell casting, and the secondary attack is a kick.
In this way, the corrupted strength’s kick can be executed with the staff in hand, along with gaining a bonus to damage.
I would also suggest making it a strength or agility based weapon so it can scale with damage. Or possibly make a corrupted perk to give damage bonuses to the arcane staff.
Why not just scale it’s damaged based on your overall corruption. Would make having a desired corruption level matter even more for casters. AND it would add a preferred weapon rounding it out some.
You could even make a wand ( already available ) as a short range stabbing weapon.
Staff, shoots like a bow, but requires a crafted catalyst to function, basically a shinier version of a bow for caster aesthetics. Fits lore KIND OFF, considering their using a catalyst like maybe “Infused Brimstone” etc.
-Would be worthless to defensive thralls tho since it would have dmg’d scaled on corruption.
Having the damage scale with corruption is a fine idea. Increasing the magnitude of spells and rituals via corruption would also be nice. I don’t really like the idea of staffs being turned into AoC mod style bows. After seeing servers with AoC or EEWA, or any other magic system, I don’t like the idea at all. Mostly because everyone becomes a sorcerer. To quote the Incredibles, if I may; “. . . and with everyone super, no one will be.” I, personally, would even go so far as to nerf the effectiveness of weapons and armor due to corruption. I want to see sorcery as something that only the truly dedicated would want to go into. Realizing it requires great sacrifice, and not just something that seems cool.
Please don’t take my scowling expression to harshly.
I agree I mean why implement a staby stab to the staff if one it does absolutely nothing and two no one uses it I think we should be able to upgrade the staff to do more mele damage the spells can remain unaffected with said upgrades and there should be heavy and light attacks while the secondary is spell casting. I mean you can legit use a weapon modifier on it along with poison.
There is a staff the Khitan use in one book to paralyze and wither opponents. A set priest fights one of the Khitan carrying the staff - can’t remember the book though.
The preferred melee weapon of a sorcerer will always be an axe, sword, spear, club, mace, knife, or other similar melee implement made of some decent quality metal if available, or some improvised version otherwise.
Using their implement they rely on focusing the outer dark energies and other corruptive forces is not something they would be willing to use. This is why the staves in game aren’t really weapons in themselves. The melee ‘attack’ they do have is a remnant of copying the Divine tool implement and reusing it (aka FC not wanting to reinvent the wheel).
This would be akin to a Soldier using a radio as a blunt weapon. Sure you can do it. But that tool is going to be far more valuable in its intended role. And definitely use anything else available. Same as the Arcane Staves in game. The sorcerer will want to use anything else available, even if its a rock or stick.
These sorcerous implements are not merely showy pieces of wood and metal, but have intricate designs and foci that allow them to be used in the way they are for using sorcery. Smacking some ticked off barbarian or hungry predator is likely going to damage its ability to be used properly.
Yeah, why not? I’ve wanted to have a quarterstaff in the game since Early Access. It could use the former light attack animations the spear used to have.
It doesn’t have to have anything to do with sorcery, no extra powers related to corruption or anything. I just want a stick with which to bonk my enemies, see them driven before me and hear the lamentation of their women.
“The staff licked out like the dart of a viper, but the slash of Conan’s knife was quicker. The staff fell in writhing halves, there was another flicker of the keen steel like a jet of lightning, and the head of the Khitan rolled to the floor.”
Yup… that’s what happens when a sorcerer uses a staff in melee
" …A kiss of the staff that was cut from the living Tree of Death -"
The staff lucked out like the dart of a viper, but the slash of Conan’s knife was quicker. The staff fell in writhing halves…
The staff you’re trying to cite is a poisonous tree branch that gets cut in half the first time it’s used on someone who’s not a robed and helpless wizard.
