Battle pass feedback

I’m gonna throw my thoughts in on this.

Battle Pass: I’m expecting to be free, like Seasons in Fallout 76. Complete challenges, claim rewards.

Bazaar: Like the Atomic Shop on Fallout 76. Spend your Crom Coins to buy skins for armour and weapons, and building sets / cosmetic items.

Earn a few Crom Coins from the Battle Pass to spend in the Bazaar, as well as buy Crom Coins to spend in the Bazaar or complete the Battle Pass quicker.

If this is the way, I’m all for it. People will get free content via the Battle Pass, and others will continue to support financially via the Bazaar.

Looking forward to more info in a couple of days.

This was spot on. I dont get the outrage either. $15 dlc or $15 battle pass. Battle pass sounds way more fun. What I saw looks just like how Destiny2 does it and that is a really really good way to do it. Ive always been satisfied with that store and the seasons

I completely disagree with your opinion on fear of missing out. This sales method is employed everywhere for everything. It is a legitimate and useful tool. When I sold cars for 17 years it was employed regularly. Also I WANT to be able to earn items others dont have lol. Makes trading more fun for me

You literally missed the entire portion of the video that discussed the battlepass didnt you. Maybe rewatch it. $15 DLC = $15 Season battle pass. Its the same just given in a different way. Its not hard to understand

But it is different in that a dlc, you get it all at once and no hoops to go through. Battle pass means earning stuff and if you don’t get through it all when next season hits, sorry about your luck.

However, a suggestion for the FC staff that are lurking…the items of last season should be part of the store items for the next season. IE. You didn’t get the battle pass completed all by the time q4 hit with “the age of confusion”? That’s ok, here are all the things you missed…up for sale through q4 season. Players aren’t stressing as much, you get more revenue for stuff already developed. Win-win, in my book.

As a singleplayer, my concern is whether I can transfer items between multiple characters I play. For example, one character in EL and the other on IoS, if the EL character obtains the ability to craft version armors or building pieces, does the IoS character also gain this ability?

Also, won’t all of the items have to be stored on my hard drive, even if I never buy them? That’ll be rough on my drive space.

I don’t mind having to pay something but in return I hope they will improve things concerning the bug of monsters which remain in the air or which remain in place instead of attacking, as well as the policy of banishment who is to review on the officials

If anyone wants to see what it will be like, look up PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds battle passes and shop. It will be a splitting image of it in terms of how and whats available.

This one has clearly articulated their opinion of FOMO and those who utilize it.

If an object derives it’s value purely from artificial scarcity, it is a scam.
Regardless of how legal it is.

If one values a thing only because others cannot have it, they do not value that thing, they only value their ability to lord a thing over others, or engage in duplicitous commerce upon the naive.

Edit: this one does acknowledge that a fool and their money were lucky to get together in the first place, but there is a difference between a novel and cunning scheme, and a blatantly obvious to the point of being insulting grift.

Not of fan of FOMO (fear of missing out) tactics in sales. Its predatory and scummy.

Besides, isn’t the FOMO approach to sales already illegal in several countries?

I would rather just have a DLC. I aint got time for no battel pass.

Are you really comparing cars to a digital item? How in the hell does it make sense that a digital item can “run out” or has a limited time? a real 1970’s car makes sense, but a digital item? come on now.

Treat the Battle Pass as a DLC if that’s the case. Purchase the Crom Coins (instead of buying a DLC) to complete the battle pass straight away. They literally said this in the video.

I’m not meaning to be an arse, but I’m not sure why it’s confusing to so many.

I could be totally wrong, but we’ll all find out soon. :+1:t2:

Help me out. How is exclusive merch for launch of a game not playing into the evil and predatory FOMO?

FOMO… hmmm… How could that be legislatable? F (fear) is an emotion and can be felt over anything and nothing and under all circumstances. Sounds strange.

I see it more as GOGU (grind or give up) or maybe POG (pay or grind). But whatever it is we’re evaluating and legislating needs to be of a tangible or mechanical nature. As soon as emotions are brought into it things fog up pretty quickly - even becoming undefinable all together.

As far as directed grinding goes the jury is out (for me) until I experience the game and it’s new features. At first glance it seems OK enough. I mean we pretty much already have that. You want legendary armor? Look at the crafting menus to see what’s needed, then go grind for it (X amount of fur, X amount of thick hide, X amount of iron, X amount of a special item (maybe Dragon Bone or another) and you get it. You want a cultural esthetic piece of equipment? Now on top of the directed grinding you also have to pay money. The only exception is if you did all the grinding and manufacturing in advance.

But isn’t this prelusive grinding something that needs addressing? Isn’t it largely true that PvE players at least, build up these massive stores of materials and then soon feel like they’ve done everything in the game and there’s nothing left to accomplish? Mr. Aspargus details just such a notion which lead him to leave the game for several years. And most readers here have heard many many people saying the same things in the past.

I don’t honestly see much difference between what we were shown of the battle pass and what we have now - except that it’s structured differently and directed. My guess would be that these items will come in round-robin distribution so I’m not even sure FOMO applies at all - if it’s even definable in the first place. Feeling bored, not sure what to do next? Check the Battle Pass tab and see if there’s anything worthy of your time - it’s an option.

It’s an option I will likely be ignoring 95% of the time simply because I care very little (about 5%) for what my character looks like etc… I care about stats and abilities mostly (95%) so I can dominate in battle or grind quickly and efficiently when I need to. I will probably be using the BP for the building pieces but even that looks like it might have to be ignored: “In the battle pass we have sorcery themed building pieces which are built to compliment and supplement the existing base building sets.” So if I can’t use them without buying DLC then yup, it’s a no thanks from me.

I know this thread is specifically about the Battle Pass but keep in mind as you read and reply here that the BP is only one small part of the FREE 3.0 update. There’s teleportation, air travel, looks like maybe ANOTHER form of “fast travel” as well, a new undead theme with mounts, armor?, NPCs? and Thralls?, activities, like that witchdoctor event they did last October, Sorcerer abilities, interesting corruption states, an in-game shop (even though it’s menu driven and not map location :frowning: which is sad and a half), armor “face lifting” which should make PvP especially more interesting, a new KNOWLEDGE tab which seems like a rethink of the Abilities tab, improved building mechanics, and so on… lots of goodies.

There are so many other goodies that it makes me wonder if this opt-in Battle Pass thing is even worthy of my time to consider very deeply.

If its 15 bucks I get everything like any other dlc then sure, that works for me. But you know damn well that its going to be more than 15 bucks to complete that battlepass.

That’s what I’m afraid of, too.

It doesn’t seem to be anything even close to something like that though.

  1. You download the 3.0 update for free (I guess).
  2. You immediately have a Battle Pass tab in your menus.
  3. You click that tab and look at the menu listing.
  4. You then decide if you want something listed there.
  5. If yes, you then decide if you want to pay money for it or spend your challenge points.
  6. You get the item and off you go.

At least that’s what it looks like from the video.

On the (extremely strange to me) chance that people will want EVERYTHING in the BP listing maybe FC will (eventually) add a discounted “BUY ALL” option? That would be a good (proven) marketing tactic too.

Well I sure hope it’s not more than that also, depending on what items are in the pass…

I’ll definitely be trying to grind out what I can.

I just hope Funcom keeps one very important thing in mind, not everyone has 20+ hours a week to play games. So if someone decides to take their time to grind it out, then let them. Don’t force players to have to spend by making the battlepass or items limited.
