It feels really counter-productive that people that weren’t present for the live release past content don’t have access to past battle passes simply because they weren’t there at that specific time
The FOMO business strategy employed by tencent is not only predatory, but downright foolish from a business standpoint. Why deny yourselves additional income from new players that were tardy to the party?
I (and plenty of other people) would happily pay money to unlock these past battle passes on our account so that I can put in the time and effort that others in the past did into getting them myself.
The excuse of the developers saying that they’re going to “put up equivalents on the bazaar that only look similar to the ones in the bazaar.” This feels not only like a waste of resources, for both developers and the playerbase, but also extremely condescending toward a community that only wants to support Funcom / Tencent.
I recall Funcom braggng about how the changes were done in the player’s best interest when the introduced age of sorcery. That feels like it couldn’t be further from the truth. Putting up the limited time carrot-on-a-stick feels more like a method of captivating your audience in a pretty disrespectful way.
There was a thread a few years ago. It was about the pre-order items being available again for purchase. The community expressed itself saying they enjoyed the exclusive nature of the Atlantean Sword and Royal Armor.
Funcom listened to them. And pretty much think these requests are from salty players who missed out. Because this community told them that is what they were when they asked for the pre-order items.
Yes, exclusive items we as members of the community are able to pay for in exchange of access.
The problem is making each of these DLCs available for only a limited time with no chance of purchasing them again later simply because we couldnt buy it while it was out.
It wouldnt be a problem to keep them available the same way they have the DLC packs for sale in the bazaar.
@Taemien, please remind this one, who in the community, wanted more exclusive items? This one has a confirmation bias, so does not trust remembering a laundry list of posters’ outcry against FOMO that was poo pooed down by about three posters whom this one remembers by name.
That aside, as much as this one loathes the Battle Pass system, it’s a forlorn hope to see re-release.
They may reskin some (arcane curio cabinet and arcane bookcase are the same placeable, but with a different paint job), but this one would suggest against breath holding.
The current monetization system probably isn’t even under Funcom’s direct control. They may have input, but they’ve had a “monetization expert” gifted to them by their owners for over a year now.
Edit: One issue this one rankles at is how they track the purchases. Once you make a purchase (or complete a BP) you are locked into the platform acquired on.
Ensuring that those Console players are disincentivized from jumping to PC.
This is what I noticed every time FOMO items come up. It’s cool to have exclusives, but it would be nice to allow access to them for those that missed them. Most everyone that has FOMO items usually say it’s ok with them if the items get released. They’ve had their exclusivity for a good while and it should be released by now. I’ve only seen a small handful minority that have protested it. Something about, “blah blah blah! I earned these items and no one should have them! Blah blah blah!”
I have the Watcher items and would like to see others be able to use them… especially now that others can’t use them if they don’t have the recipe. So, basically, I can’t even share them with anyone. The armor can only be worn by thralls (other than me) and if I want to give someone a placeable, I have to leave my clan and join theirs.
Maybe its not all about money.
If you say they would make more money by allowing you to purchase past battle passes.
Battle pass is for specific chapter in specific age.
Perhaps is more important for them to stick to that, rather then choosing you opinion and try making more money…
Not really… if it goes the way the current bazaar items are priced, buying stuff randomly later may cost MORE than purchasing the battle pass when it’s new. Fallout 76 allows the purchase of items from past battle passes in its premium item shop at a random rotation. They currently have some items in a bundle that were a part of the first season… and the Fallout 76 seasons are free. Basically, you get it early by completing the pass at a discounted rate (in the case of Fallout 76, free)… a reward for those that play the game when it’s new content.
The Battle Pass is a one time buy in for 1200 CC, which it then refunds.
The cheapest stand alone item this one has seen on the BLB is 250 CC.
Rereleasing would generate revenue due to how the BP works
Personally, while this one detests Battle Passes, this one must give credit due, the one implemented in this game is probably one of the better ones this one has seen. Sure, some of the filler is funny, but it refunds itself and isn’t nearly the obtuse pain in the @$$ many others are.
I was a staunch supporter of bringing the launch exclusives back and at the time there were about 50% of the folks that were for this and 50% that were against this. Heck there were some folks that threatened to quit the game if FC ever offered the day one exclusives to the general public.
Flash forward to AoS chpt 1 release and many of those in favor of the exclusive nature of the day one items talked about FOMO of the battlepass and didn’t evey remotely understand the hypocrisy of what they were saying.
For me, I think the day we see battle pass items introduced into the bazaar will be the day that FC announces they are no longer actively developing and so therefore the time put into the game (including paid content) will be diminished. Certain items maybe worked into the bazaar but they will be tweaked to add distinction to these items and get the sales of those that are battle passers.
Probably because developers who do that see it as a compromise between those that want the items to be exclusive and those that somehow missed out and would like to have a shot at getting those items themselves.
Unfortunately those “tweaked” items usually don’t look nearly as good as the originals. Enough so that they actually end up being rather off-putting most of the time, IMO.
