I dumped a ton of stacks of Aloe Leaves into my bearer’s inventory. They instantly disappeared. Another player tested it on the server and the same thing happened to him.
I do understand that at the moment, bearers instantly consume food. However because my player cannot eat Aloe Leaves, I believe that the bearer eating them is a bug.
Put Aloe Leaves on your bearer
Watch in horror as your 30 minutes of farming vanishes
This is due to the changes made to the feeding system back in March. Any edible consumable put in their inventories is immediately used for a buff.
We understand this is not very intuitive and there might be some changes coming in one of the future big updates.
Thanks for the feedback.
Let’s make a special inventory slot for thralls and pets, called the buff slot. Anything you put there gets consumed. Anything in the other slots gets stored or used as weapons/ammo, just like before.
The feeding slot is such a simple and intuitive solution it’s genius!
Also, if such a slot is added, I’d suggest displaying the item that’s currently giving a buff there along with a count-down timer like what we have on torches, food, etc. That way, it would be easy for players to see if they’ve already buffed a given pet/thrall.
Thralls should not be able to eat things, which players cannot. Easy fix.
Players cannot eat aloe plants.
Players can eat bugs, rotten flesh, etc.
BUT NOT aloe plants. It makes no flaping sense… I made the same error too
I even gave him even 2x100 stacks, because its not edible, so why should the thrall consume it. puff… gone…
Bark is edible by some animals, but does not get eaten by a thrall… I dont believe aloe can be eaten by any animal.
Yeah I once had a thrall eat all the bugs I needed to build a new Derketo shrine and upgrade it all the way to T3. I was so horrified (not to mention angry), that I dumped them in a Yog pit (back when that still worked). More recently, when trying to run a more nomadic character with no permanent base, I was chagrined when my follower consumed all of my salt and aloe leaves.
I’ve honestly always wondered why thrall inventory slots were so generic. You fill them all up with resources and now thralls can’t use weapons, because their weapon slots get empties when idle. Why not have a dedicated set of slots for just equipping weapons and unequipping them? Every single player has run into the old “my thralls won’t equip weapons” issue. It is so easily solvable.
A few tweaks on thralls could yield unimaginable amounts of saved time, dealing with bug reports.
Exactly, and individual slots would also help address the crazy weapon-swapping behavior that happens if you make the mistake of asking your follower to hold your farming tools. Seeing them switch off the Blade of the Adventurer to a pickaxe when fighting a dragon or away from a trunch to a lethal weapon when trying to capture a thrall is apt to become a leading cause of liver disease amongst CE players at this rate.
