Companions seem great, living settlements as well. Can’t wait to play it.
Yet, the new Age could use a bit more “Hero stuff”, and also… slightly more Conan - the ultimate hero…just another small appearance to remind us of his presence. What is an Age of Heroes without Conan?
Don’t roll your eyes yet. I know, pesky players always want something, never satisfied.
How about mashing those things together in a simple way that shouldn’t be too hard to make?
There could be a short event inside a small battle arena with humanoid enemies, minibosses and bosses (maybe even groups of humanoid enemies).
Conan could award you the Hero title along with a unique piece of armour every time you finish the event, until you have a full set.
Arena could use the same system as the Pools of the Grey Ones, just be set inside a more traditional arena with some NPC spectators. The arena itself could be interesting enough to build and populate, with just a spawner in the middle.
Finishing the event and having all of the armour pieces could enable the player to build a “home made arena” by placing the spawner akin to a map room or the Pools and optionally building a cosmetic arena around it. In this case it’s a good reason to promote the Arena building set, I guess, and motivate players to share their own home-made arenas with the community.
Once you beat the event, you visit Conan and get the unique Hero armour piece reward and a title that could be visible above/below your name or something. Anyone who’s not a “Hero” could just have “Exile” under their name instead, the peasants.
If making an arena event is too much work, just make the Hero title and armour rewards after finishing one of the dungeons and visiting Conan.
What else is there to being a hero, than doing the right thing at the hardest possible moment despite all your flaws as a man? That’s what he is for me.
But yeah, bad wording with “ultimate” probably, and subjective because the likes of Superman and Captain America make me wanna throw up.
Anyway, is the suggestion itself bad? The title “Age of Heroes” seems a bit bombastic compared to the content it offers, I feel like something could be added to the Age.
Please,
Just let the Devs finish TRYING to fix their debacle at this idiotic settlement system.
They got a backlog of bug fixes dating back to the very beginning of this game.
Why so dramatic? I’m sure devs are doing everything they can to fix it - whatever that meant in these circumstances.
There are many people around the forums in particular just insulting devs as if their entire life and persona depended on the game and they direct all of their life’s frustrations at the game developers.
Devs want the best for their game, but can only do so much with what they are given. I’ve never met a developer who thought “I want to be known for making a bad game, it’ll really fit in my portfolio”, it’s just that some things are out of their control.
Some friendly suggestions don’t hurt, unlike insulting people and their work.
I’ll give them credit where credit is due.
If you only knew what kind of CRAP they are working with, you might change your mind.
Stick around long enough to wake up, and you will.
Don’t underestimate those who’ve been here before you with the same attitude and they are now as disappointed as many others.
Some aspects of it are nice. Adding a dungeon that looks like an arena and works like the Pools of the Grey Ones? That sounds fun.
Some aspects are a bit debatable. Conan awarding you the “hero” status and giving you armor is a bit immersion-breaking for me.
But there’s an aspect that’s actually bad: having your own placeable mob spawner.
For starters, let’s talk server performance. Imagine having just 10 out of 40 people online on an official server and 5 of them trigger their spawners simultaneously.
Now let’s talk about dumbing down the game’s difficulty level. Why go out of your base to level your thralls when you can just sit there and spawn enemies for them?
A player-owned spawner should be a mod. I wouldn’t be opposed to it being added to the base game as an admin-only item, so that private servers could use it for custom dungeons. But giving it to every player? Nah.
While this one is all for having a Gray One Pool esque location (with existing lore, the Disjunction should arrive that) in the Exiled Lands…
This one thinks having it as a placeable is a bit much, especially due to performance and server issues.
Unique armour or weapons for clearing a dungeon or event are entirely in keeping with the systems already in game.
The title.
No. Having more things pop up on the character’s name is not something this one wants. Especially as there is no way one would know at a casual glance.
As this quest line has signature items based on it, the flare of seeing someone wear this gear would be sufficient. Having a floating title is clutter.
Conan bestows upon you the status of “Hero”.
Tell this one you watched Conan the Adventurer, but never read Tower of the Elephant or Queen of the Black Coast, without telling this one you watched the cartoon but ignored the source material.
If you ascribe to the Protomen definition, that a Hero is just a man who knows he is Free then Conan may fit. But in that case, a Hero has neither need nor use for the acknowledgement of others. A “free” man who must be given his freedom is not free at all.
So, while this one is much in favour of something like the Gray One Pools for Exiled Lands (especially as there is already a location that should do just that), the story telling framework is not to this one’s liking especially not the title portion.
Edit: Wait a second.
Wouldn’t a summoning pool placeable just be an alternate Purge?
Depending upon what it calls and how intensive that spawn is… This one may have to revise opinion on it as a placeable.
Honestly… If it just spawns a boss rather than a full purge, would it be as server intensive as a Purge?
And that one agrees!
I am happy i don’t even see my name, which is smart, who needs to see his own name .
No titles, we are all bloodthirsty sexy poor barbarians, it’s more than enough. Duke’s and Lords can play other games!
