I was hoping with the fix to truncheons that were killing instead of knocking out that the Blunted Arrow issue might get fixed. But they’re still useless as a knockout item.
You’re better off using a truncheon or purple lotus orbs. FC may set blunt arrows to 0 damage but that doesn’t really help since they can’t make the same with bows –
and the damage is the sum of bow and arrow.
To sum up , bad design on the blunted arrow.
While we are at it…
Hitting someone with a club or steel truncheon makes them unconscious.
But hand to hand fight is lethal…
Make unarmed attacks knock enemies unconscious.
And make it work on enemy players too.
It’s not particularly an issue, there are just things to be aware of.
Ranged damage is always bow damage + arrow damage… if your bow does a lot of health damage it doesn’t matter what arrows you use as it will be enough to kill the target.
You need to be able to mitigate that by picking the lowest damage bow you have and doing a bit of a trick-shot where you start charging the heavy attack (since the blunted fitting would benefit from it) and then immediately release before charging up the health damage multiplier of the shot.
Here’s a post I made about these at the start of AoS, most of it is still relevant though so it should help
Is it me or did they HEAVILY nerf the concussive damage of blunted arrows and/or blunted fittings?
Before Chapter II a hand crafted hunting bow with a blunted weapon fitting paired with blunted arrows could knock out any thrall pretty easily.
So easily that, to be honest, a nerf was appropriate.
But now the same combo takes 20 arrows or more to knock out a T4 Thrall.
I personally find that nerf a little overzealous.
Now I have to go into close combat with my basic steel truncheon, that does the job pretty fast. A little bit faster than before, even without a blunted fitting.
So again the blunted arrows got obsolete. meh
Maybe.
I mean, the actual concussive damage is the same, but it is possible (even likely) that they increased the knock-out bars of thralls given that Authority now increases Conusive damage.
Wait, I thought it did that even before Age of War Chapter II?
Was it not implemented yet?
I read you thread and learned a lot, thank you.
I never even considered putting a blunted fitting on a bow. And did not realize there were armors and foods that add to concussive damage (though I did just recently find out about Hunter’s potion).
In my experience, the recent updates has made KOing most NPCs a lot faster than it used to be, at least with truncheons. I haven’t tested blunted arrows or javelins recently because they’ve always been wonky.
Yes, their concussion bar value was pretty much cut in half with Age of War as opposed to how it was in AoS and I’m not aware of any recent change in that department
Also, have you seen the Bar Mace image they use for the Steel Truncheon?
That is a historically accurate tool there, and it is for putting people to sleep, but from the kind one never awakens.
But yes, 100% agreement, underated point, if that thing only ko’s then some sweet chin music shouldn’t be lethal.
Just food for thought; could FC make the blunted arrows do negative damage? The arrow itself wouldn’t necessarily have to say -50 or something, just the value behind it.
Using the starter bow could help if you really want to use blunt arrows but I recommend purple lotus orbs They are much much better.
