Bug Description: All building pieces that are like the Sandstone Fence pieces give me a strong bleed affect when I just touch my own fence pieces.
But any time a npc runs up to them and touches them it does nothing to them even if they just stand there or run back and forth across them. Even the flotsam fences does it.
It should be the other way around. npc’s that are not mine should get bleed and not me from my own walls.
I have even tryed changing the item owner game settings to see if that helps to fix it and there is no change.
My own fences still give me bleed while the npc’s health bars don’t even show up and they just stand there or run back and forth over them then return to their spawn point without a single scratch to their health.
I can’t stand behind them and shoot the npc’s with arrows without my own fences giving me bleed.
I can’t even use them to protect my builds and have to resort to raising up Fence foundations as fences.
I have all the DLCs and they all do the same thing.
Ah so npc’s will not get hurt from anti climb walls.
It’s not all the time but more of a hit and miss but when I place a row of fences down with the placement arrow pointing out and stand behind it then walk up to it ill get a plash of blood on my screen and my health bar will go down.
It dose the same even more for the wooden spiked wall palisades.
I can place them down infront of me and walk up to them and get damage while enemy npcs will walk or run up to them with no effect.
Right. As NPC’s can not climb or jump at all (though some animals can jump).
And I dunno if it’s a bug or not but yes, your own fences will cause you to bleed if you try and climb them.
Palisades are different. NPC’s should take damage from them. Recent changes to the purge AI has 95% of them avoiding them though so they have become ineffectual. Now pretty much only a bomb thrower will approach palisades - and only then to bomb them. But it’s a yes here too as to self-damage. Your palisades will damage you if you touch them. And again, I dunno if that’s intended or a bug.
That @Pliskin is asking for a video could either mean he isn’t sure what you’re talking about or that he thinks it is actually a bug.
Whats interesting too though, is after you try to climb your own fence and get pricked by the spikes. You have to repair that fence piece before you can return it to your inventory.
I see, yeah the other day on the Isle of siptah I placed a bunch of the wooden spiked palisades that look like sharpened wooden poles tied in an X pattern in a wall formation on the ground near a bunch of wolves and had two sandstone square foundations placed in the middle on top of each other to stand on and shoot them from it…
The wolves ran up and were hitting the spikes and it did nothing to them but if I would brush against them my health bar would go down.
So as for the fences if they don’t hurt npcs then they will do nothing when it comes to npcs during a purge ?
Because I was thinking that not only do they give other players bleed when climbing them they would also give npcs bleed during a purge when they hit them.
I play only single player and its all pve and was thinking they would bleed some of the npcs during a purge.
That could be. Maybe if you stand directly on the other side of them and the wolf tries to attack you through them then there might be some damage.
Fences will make purge NPCs either try to find a way around them, pause and bomb them, or pause and try to break them. So they (as well as other building pieces) can be used to attempt to control the flow of the hoard and/or break them up - as some will pause there while others will try to find a way around them. But yeah, no damage to them.
It’s possible. But it would be so rare and also such slight amount of damage that for that specific purpose against NPCs it’s just a waste of resources.
Fences used right do make a pretty good barrier that will slow down the hoard and allow some well placed archers to whittle them down. In that way your base walls remain un-attacked (until the hoard breaks through the fences) while your archers reduce their number and their HP. This helps to ensure that your base remains standing after everything is done. So, they do have a function - just not to damage the NPCs. Palisades are essentially the same now-a-days. They used to do considerable damage to NPCs but with the new tactics and AI the NPCs mostly just stand back and bomb them till there’s a hole through.
It’s possible like I say, but I think almost completely ineffectual to that end.
BTW, I should probably mention that I’m mostly talking about human NPCs here. If the purge is Rocknoses or those giant Yeti things, something like that - they seem to be dumber and will more often step on fences and palisades - thus incurring more damage than humans. It’s been so long since I’ve had a non-human purge though that I dunno what it’s like under the revised AI.
