Bug: Followers not Continuing Combat after First Combo (Edit: Do not sit Followers on Seats)

Basic Info:

Platform: Steam
Issue Type: Gameplay
Game Mode: Online Private
Server Type: PvE
Map: Exiled Lands
Server Name:
Mods: none

Bug Description:

A common follower combat bug is persisting where they only seem to complete one-combo upon entering combat, and then do not continue fighting (regardless of what’s going on around them) until they’re hit again (edit: Hit with melee . Ranged attacks from enemies do not seem to initiate followers to re-engage combat like melee does).

Bug Reproduction:

In the attached Video I have used Janos and Lian both in Attack Everything Stance, 15 m range. Every other setting was left default as it is when they first come off the Wheel of Pain.

The link to the video is <here>

Update: I found the bug, it’s to do with seats, and how to reproduce it. See my post below link <here>

I have one thrall who behaves this way but the others are fine. Which is weird because all thralls are supposed to have the same AI right?

@Reverielle It’s the shield :slight_smile:

Don’t give your thralls shields… they just can’t use it. At best they use it completely out of context, since it’s just a random attack move to them (they don’t actually care if the enemy is attacking or not when they raise it)
And at worst, they bug out like you can see in your video.

Simply give them a one-handed mace with no shield and they’ll be fine.
Thou, not sure what’s the deal with the war-axe one… so on second thought there might be more to it… (almost like they get a stop command), but regardless you still don’t want to give them shields.

Yes, unfortunately it’s not the shield, that much is clearly evident from the video I think (and why I had one with and one without). I’ve tested with a whole lot of weapons, with a variety of Fighter and Archers. And on Official, Private (no mods) and Private (mods). The problem persists throughout.

I wish it was though! That would be an easy fix.

i have the most issues with zerks and maces, a dancer with a sword turns into a frenzy of trying to get the enemy to attack the murder machine and save the dancer.

Can you test in single player to see if you get the same thing? Might be useful.
You could even copy the database and test with the exact same character

Just to eliminate any server performance / configuration issues

I noticed (before hotfix) the kappa now stand still for ambiguous amount of time before they charge. I wonder if it is related.

Thanks! Whilst this wasn’t the problem, it lead me down the path (a long path of trial and error) to figuring out just what the bug actually is: It has to do with the new ability we have to sit our followers on chairs.

Long story short: If you put your follower on a chair to sit, this is what causes the bug that’s apparent in video above I linked. This is why most of my followers were buggy; I had them sitting around campfires keeping nice and warm when not following me.

To stop the bug, simply put them on guard standing somewhere, then log out and reset your server. The next time you have them follow you they will once again fight as they should in battle.

Want to recreate the bug? Simply put them sitting on a seat to guard. I tried this method with six of my followers (two fighters; Lian and Janos, three Archers; Freya, Dina, and Archer Dennu, and Cimmerian Berserker) All we able to bug and not-bug according to how I had them guard (on a seat or standing).

Hopefully a developer/someone-from-Funcom sees this and can fix it for future.

That’s some really good info there

I support this topic. In my environment on the server the same thing happens with thralls.

My thralls started doing this immediately after ch3 update and before I put any of them in a chair.

Nice find. The one thrall I had issues with is indeed one I made sit often (or other emotes, to decorate my base) so that would fit.

Thankfully, so far, other emotes that I’ve tried have not had any negative effect on their ability to fight in combat. But if any of your (or anyone else’s) testing/troubleshooting discovers an emote that does, please share!
