Players that I know have followed Funcom’s Official Server rules but have gotten suspended / banned in the past for building in some of these locations.
I have marked in Red are some passageways in the game. Deserter’s Gutter and The Crevice for example. Marked in Blue, there is no name, but I had intended on building here. This also a passageway. I also marked the Keyhole in red as there’s always a topic of debate about this spot.
The Deserter’s Gutter is considered a passageway to get to other places of the map. One group of people built a base inside it. One player decided that he/she doesn’t like that and submitted a report about the the base. This Deserter’s Gutter has numerous different ways of getting access to the map. Its not tied to going though it. There was also no land claim of foundations spewed across it and had a building count of less than 8000 pieces.
The Crevice is also considered a passageway. Another player decided that he/she doesn’t like that other players are building in a passageway and submitted a report about the the base. Again there are numerous ways of accessing the map without needing to go though The Crevice. This base was under construction at the time with less than 5000 building pieces and the players building here were 3 days on the server.
Keyhole. Thralls de-spawn when you build inside it and there is a recipe journal close by. Alright fair enough. Solution which everyone is saying “Move the thralls and the journal recipe” or “Make the Keyhole unbuildable”
Going back to the spot I have circled in blue. J 6 is a small little passageway between the starter area and the jungle area. There is several ways for players to continue their journey to get to the other side rather than having to go through this passage. However for some unlucky players building in inside they got reported and suspended. Just today I was about to build inside J 6 until it hit me that I could get suspended for building in this location.
If people are getting suspended and eventually banned for building in these locations then they should be black listed as non buildable areas like the NPC camps, ruins, etc.
Also from looking at the past topics there has been a Zendesk employee explaining that they don’t bother investigating infractions properly because of the broken system the development team for Conan Exiles has set up Can anyone explain more on that to me?
and you’re sure there wasn’t another problem?
At least “The Crevice” on the Highlands should be OK for building, in fact over the years I’ve been playing on our server that place is almost always occupied.
The problem is with the unclear rules and especially the inconsistency of the moderators , one time after a big debate they even allowed blocking world bosses if they are not unique ( and everyone started building in the cave by the croc under Mek kamoses) only to quietly ban players for it again after a while…
My general rule of thumb is, if you are preventing someone from taking a near-optimal route with a KOed NPC, discovering a location or enjoying a resource you risk suspension. For example:
If you run into a base in front of Sepermeru that requires you to climb or go around through the market to get to the Temple Quarters, then you are at risk.
If you built along the entirety of one route to the Silver Mine, requiring you to go around the elevations to reach the other side, you are at risk.
So, when considering the passages to the North, from The Den Area and the Central Savannah area i’d wager it is best to simply leave those accessible for through-traffic, but i have seen some smart builds that built against the ceiling of the tunnels that are still there after at least 5 months of my return now.
To clarify, what i mean by accessible isn’t just open gates forcing people to navigate your base, i mean not having it all covered with building pieces so traffic does not have to reroute through what essentially is a different POI but can take the same route without touching your build.
It’s definitely not all there is to it when it comes to suspensions, but these are the rules i pretty much stick by. I personally try to avoid traffic lanes and only build next to high traffic areas instead of on top, and never had an issue.
Someone who builds on top of the passages instead of in them for example logically is not at risk of a suspension for the abovementioned, but there’s still always the other criteria to keep in mind such as size of the build, usefulness of your landclaim (no buildings without utility) and the impact on the server your placeables have.
Since you mentioned “The Crevice” (meaning the one near the Mounds of the Dead);
Definitely do not build there. 3 ways in and 3 ways out.
BUT
Head a little southwest and up higher.
If you are lucky, you will find it.
Just clear out the big boulders and you will discover a cavernous passage.
Two ways in, two ways out.
If nobody has found it and built there, make your claim.
