Can we get LESS revealing outfits in the game?

Heresy, I know; but hear me out.

Outside of the movies and Frazetta artwork, the Hyborian world isn’t as skimpy as you would initially believe.

Yes, there is still scantily-clad women and yes, Conan has killed many men while fully naked.

However, the main point that the game so far has missed is because in none of those scenarios were any of the involved participants planning on going into a fight with nothing.

Conan has killed naked when he’s either;

  • Been captured and is escaping with nothing
  • Was ambushed when unexpecting
  • Intentionally being stealthy to land a surprise attack, not a fair fight.

On the flip side, Conan has donned full armor for;

  • Major battles
  • Planned attacks
  • Literally any time he has access to better gear and the foresight to anticipate needing it.

As for the armor itself? Sure, you could argue for some cultures especially in hotter climates they’d be a bit more breathable and open in non-vital areas. However I’d retort by saying the Hyperborean Slaver is an inexcusable abomination and a literal chainmain bikini.

There is quotes to suggest the armor is a lot thicker than we get;

In the Hour of the Dragon, Conan’s royal armor is written as;

And while the fallen king stared with burning eyes that reflected the bitter rage and humiliation that ate his heart, the squires stripped Valannus of mail shirt, burganet and leg-pieces, and clad him in Conan’s armor of black plate-mail, with the vizored salade, and the dark plumes nodding over the wivern crest. Over all they put the silken surcoat with the royal lion worked in gold upon the breast, and they girt him with a broad gold-buckled belt which supported a jewel-hilted broad-sword in a cloth-of-gold scabbard.

And in the game we get… a vest and a miniskirt.

Also in the Hour of the Dragon, the Nemedian Adventurers are said to wear full body covering chainmail, not just a ragged t-shirt of it. They also have a plated gorget, and a morion helmet.

There are many other stories that detail the various armors of the age, but I would urge everyone to read for themselves to fully grasp the setting.

Now given Exiles is a harsh survival scenario, one could argue that for story reasons maybe armor isn’t as easily accessible. Except that’s not the case, given how we have full proper sets such as Poitain Cavalier, Silent Legion, Godbreaker, Cimmerian Steel, and Slaveforged Guardian. And what armors bear a similar material cost to some of these? Literal chainmail bikinks.

I could see dancers, archers, and less important thralls wearing lighter and more revealing sets sure; but if you’ve got a force of Cimmerian berserkers tasked with holding your walls from invasion, or following you into battle against beasts beyond comprehension by lesser men; you’d bet they should be plated to the teeth. Anything less is irresponsible and reckless.

Tl;dr less bikinis more armors please :pray:

Yeah…gotta say the whole naked sexy schtick just isn’t all that as far as getting people motivated to play. It was cute and shocking at the time but now it’s just…why?

It really takes me out of the immersion when I see people out fighting giant monsters or taking on whole camps of enemies with as much skin showing as possible. You had time to prepare, and time to gear up, and the game humors you by making your appearance as revealing as possible.

The illusion system has not helped this case at all, but to each their own. I’d just like more heavily-armored options available.

I do understand what you say!
But, it is all fantasy here, nothing real!
The heavy steel armors came medieval, I believe the lore is before Jesus, not after! Medieval period is a thousand years after Jesus if I am not mistaken, @Kapoteeni can enlighten us here better than me!
In a fantasy landscape you are free to imagine whatever you like, 2 suns, 3 moons, meteo showers, it’s fantasy, nothing real! Same goes with armors and weapons I guess! I have a non muscle woman for main character, however she can swing a weapon equal to her weight and hit a hard as Conan.
Many things are a bit goofy here, but no problem I guess.
It is a game after all.
Yet I will say this, that many won’t like, but it’s true!
Do you remember the first heavy armor dodge? This dodge was trying to replicate the truth about heavy armors?
Who liked it?
I didn’t.
We have transmog now Jimbo, I can wear a dragon bone armor almost 2k armor and make it look like a bikini. So? No matter if the game designers, design a good looking heavy armor I can still wear it for bikini :man_shrugging:.

You are not mistaken, however the Hyborian age is an anachronistic free-for-all. This pre-ice age era has access to crossbows, platemail, and many more advanced technologies that wouldn’t be possible. The idea is that civilizations rise and fall, and the hyborian age is a risen civilization that eventually falls to make way for the ice age.

This is a lazy excuse, I expected better. The Hyborian age has established lore, and set expectations on what does and doesn’t exist in that scope. You can’t say anything goes, when there is direct book references that state how things are supposed to be.

There is that freedom currently, yes. But on the other hand that only serves to highlight how severely lacking there is in proper armor designs for the rest of us. I’d like to wear proper full armors, but there are sadly few available. Illusion should offer the choice, but right now all it does is enable more things to become bikini.

Why can’t I Illusion more sets into full armor? Because there’s not enough full armor designs. There’s a million skimpy outfits and a small handful of full armors. It’s unbalanced.

I think they should provide both options. So the choice between a Playboy model and a terminator shall fall into the player’s hands…or one of them in some cases.

Yes. That other thread is the basis for this one. I don’t genuinely mean less in number, I would never suggest removal. But I mean less proportionately; more full armors to counteract the ratio.

There’s only one requirement, from me as a player, to the armors in the game. (especially with transmog system active.)

The armor should look cool. Be it full plate knight, or pict in rugs it always should look cool for the specific style a player may want to follow or recreate.

So far dlcs and Bazaar/BP options provide a somewhat balanced choice between fully clothed/armored and somewhat revealing outfits.

It’s a fact :grin:, not excuse! Because thecse books do not represent either truth, either history, just the imagination of some writers! Howard started it, to make his living, others continued it again to make their living too! Marketing monsters took the work of dead men and made fortunes from the dead people fantasy. Do you think Picasso enjoyed a dime from the millions his paintings are still sold? It’s business based on dead people fantasy and talent , that’s only how it goes! No matter how “ideally” we want to see things, truth exists always and there’s not a reason to put blinders in it. I know that you are committed to the Conan lore, I admire you for that, but not loose the truth as you seek in fantasy books my dear friend!
I can understand and admire your passion for the lore, but it will always be fantasy nonetheless and that’s a fact!

If I want realism and realitity I turn off my computer and go to work.

People are playing games for a reason and you can like it or not but xx sells in rl and in games. If people wouldn´t like sexy armor they wouldn´t spend more time dressing and staging up their thralls then taking them out to an actuall fight and all mods like fashionist, barbarian barber, akubas salon etc. would have never become that popular. So popular that Funcom made their own illusionist versions out of it.

Like I said in the other thread: sexxy doesn´t nec. means barely clothed. It just means that an armor should “compilement the attributes” and I personally don´t see that with a lot of the ingame armor.

They still can add his actual armor, or more variations of more lore specific armors.

In the cash shop.

At her command they brought harness to replace Conan’s chain-mail — gorget, sollerets, cuirass, pauldrons, jambes, cuisses and sallet. When Yasmela again drew the curtains, a Conan in burnished steel stood before his audience. Clad in the plate-armor, vizor lifted and dark face shadowed by the black plumes that nodded above his helmet, there was a grim impressiveness about him that even Thespides grudgingly noted. A jest died suddenly on Amalric’s lips.

Ain’t that a fact :rofl::rofl::rofl:. I lmao m8, thanks! I play for exactly same reasons. To forget reality and this game helps me a lot in this part.
I remember on 2012 I was supervisor on a building in an island. The position of the building was really rough, material could come only with animals(donkeys) or sea platforms! I remember I made a mistake on the drawing on a wall of a bathroom and we had to bring it down! Knowing how difficult and expensive was to bring materials there, my heart was broken (among my pocket :rofl::rofl::rofl:). In Conan exiles I can bring down the whole f… g castle and fix it back without worrying for the rumble either :rofl::rofl::rofl:.
So yes, if I want reality I go to work too :wink:.

How talented these people were, isn’t it? How is it possible to describe armor pieces and be so damn romantic at the same time, my goodness what a gift! Thank you @Jimbo, fantastic!

Here’s the counter point. People in the stories did wear full sets of armor, wore clothes head to toe, and in many areas were quite prudish in their look. Outside some seedy area in a brothel like place in Stygia. People dressed quite conservatively. Including Conan himself.

That was in civilization.

If you want to see what people typically wore in the Exiled Lands. You only need to read The Slithering Shadow, the story that takes place geographically the closest to the Exiled Lands. In that story, Conan and the Brythunian woman, Natala had to brave the deserts in a very similar (and one that in all likely inspired) survival situation as we experience in the Exiled Lands:

THE desert shimmered in the heat waves. Conan the Cimmerian stared out over the aching desolation and involuntarily drew the back of his powerful hand over his blackened lips. He stood like a bronze image in the sand, apparently impervious to the murderous sun, though his only garment was a silk loin-cloth, girdled by a wide gold-buckled belt from which hung a saber and a broad-bladed poniard. On his clean-cut limbs were evidences of scarcely healed wounds.

At his feet rested a girl, one white arm clasping his knee, against which her blonde head drooped. Her white skin contrasted with his hard bronzed limbs; her short silken tunic, low-necked and sleeveless, girdled at the waist, emphasized rather than concealed her lithe figure.

Now with that said. Should all the conservatively covering armors be removed? Surely not. But they exist and in greater number to the more revealing attire. Which is what is spurring on the requests for such things.

The idea here is everyone should have options to what THEY want to wear. We’re all heroes in our own stories. And as Conan has proven in his career as a Barbarian, a Thief, a Mercenary, a Pirate, a Soldier, and as a King, you can be quite successful in a variety of differing options. Or nothing at all in some cases.

The story I quoted also took place in the desert, relatively nearby in fact.

Entirely untrue. I’m not sure where you got that notion from, but that is far from the case.

Yes, and I want to wear more heavy, realistic armors.

72 armors sets that are not very revealing, 26 that are, and about 11 that are kinda inbetween. Not counting some of the bits and pieces which are mostly helmets, jewelry, and other bits. Objectively there is more conservative based armors than revealing ones.
