Can we talk about Eventstrings?

Hello everyone!

I am sure, a lot of you read the title and are probably thinking “What are Eventstrings? Never heard of such a thing.”

So here a quick summary: apparently, there are messages integrated in the servercode, which seem to be supposed to inform players about currently occuring events on the server which they are involved in. They are complete messages with proper wording and grammar and even translated into at least german, so I guess they exist in other languages too. Because of this, I think they are supposed to be readable by players.

(There are even messages of the gods which demand of you as their worshipper different things to aid in whatever they are doing right now, which really happens somewhere on the map. And if fulfilled by you, the god reacts to it and give you different things through his shrine. Another proof that these Eventstrings have meanings to be there and to be seeable. So much for the “non-existent” interactions with the religion-system. It is there… but it is invisible for us most of the time.)

Thing is, only the serveradmin gets (rarely) messages related to him in the game and all others get nothing. The admin of the server I play on discovered this shortly prior to the halloween event and could connect them, so I got messages properly which really, really helped A LOT to understand, what was going on that night and the day after.
Then the latest update forced him to do a parameter reset on the server because we could not connect to our server anymore like many others here.
The changes (which took 9 hours to do by the way) were undone and the structure of the file changed so reconnecting it again will be hours of busywork again.

And because the last update let the events go crazy anyway, this amounts to a lot of problems in my gamplay, for example something jump-spawning Alpha-Hyenas on me, which kill me all the time as soon as I leave my base radius to the north or the south (which only leaves east, because in the west is the corrupted city).
Even praying to Hanuman did not help this time which was the thing to do to calm the events completely down.

(Yes doing the (ever changing) ritual at Hamumans Grotto was - and is if it is not one of the more scripted events - basically an implemented ingame “reset-button” to make the environment calm down in a real-life day when it is bashing itself out of control)

I have no idea what happened or is happening.
I have no idea what the problem is.
I have no idea how to resolve the problem.
And I am pretty sure the server throws invisible messages at me which would contain the necessary hints but I cannot see them, which is even more infuriating.

So please devs, du us the favor and make them visible to the players. Please!

Welcome to the Forum. Are you playing on a modded pc server? Because this doesn’t happen on Playstation official or my private Playstation server. @Aziza No messages like that.

No… what your friend server admin friend most likely read is the log. :man_shrugging:
Yes, the game server when it starts up queries the Funcom servers to ask which events are supposed to be enabled… it’s not meant as “messages to the players”… it’s not meant for players at all, it’s just a log entry referring to the active events…

As for “jump-spawning Alpha-Hyenas” on you… that’s not an event I’m aware of… most likely it’s triggered by a third party mod you have.

No, these are official messages that are in the game implemented by the devs and appear for the admin (as a player) when his character is listed as an involved party. They should appear to every player but they are not linked properly. But they are there. And they are called upon from the server when the corresponding events happen, regardless if someone can notice it.

The Server is pure vanilla.

I would like to put a screenshot here from the first message I got (which marked the beginning of Set and Zath running rampage on halloween) but I am not allowed to upload one as new user.

The messages after they were connected came steady everytime something started or ended. The whole halloween event, I - and only I because i had an affiliation with set a few weeks prior which put me in the “part of event”-list - got the whole event laid out in text before me everytime something major happened.

From Set and Zath teaming up to Mithra and Set fighting with their avatars, sending their troops around, Yog wanting to prey on Mithra when his avatar came to destroy my base, Mitra repelling it (it really turned at the border of my base and vanished), Mitra protecting me from spiders (they fell dead where they stood) and Mitra gaining powers from me sacrificing souls to him. The messages appeared and it happened.
After the event, I got further notifications from Mitra wanting something from me (3 souls from Sygians or 10 weapons to aid his fighters against the battle of the remaining sethites and zathites.) I was rewarded for this with iron, gear or a bunny… which i sadly cannot tame because the food for that was part of twitch drop.

If these messages did not appear for me, I would have never been aware that these events even exist.

You need to browse the Forum for a short while to prove your not a BOT

@CodeMage do you know anything about this. Thanks you are the only one I could think of on PC and you know your ■■■■

I’m pretty sure you’re describing the EEWA mod event system…
Again, this is not in the basegame, it’s a mod.

Do I need to post a screenshot of my empty Conan Exiles Mod list?

I think I can guarantee you that we with our roughly 4 month old server (we started at the very end of the Age of Sorcery Season), we have seen so much stuff that no other have ever seen. Especially with Mitra, he sent a freaking Avatar to destroy my Set-shrine, when this did not work he let meteors crashing down on it and my friends (admin) base next door, annihilating both completely and shortly after this let the sun stand still because I accidentally dragged spiders through his little shrine in the east and it was tainted.

We had no idea that this was in the game and we surely did not install a mod to make that happen. (My friend already complained that he would like to have a week for once, where nothing major happens. So i am pretty sure that - if the mod would work without me installing it what i dont believe - he surely has not installed extra events anywhere and he made it very clear that he does not want to install mods because he fears that an update could corrupt the server.)

Interesting!

Maybe there was an alert system implemented to find events but never activated for whatever reason.

Would be nice.

Great find and welcome to the forum!

5 years plus on this Forum have NEVER heard of this YES I read PC posts even though I am on PS5. @Community any comments on this. It will most likely take a couple days before they respond. @Aziza Question is their more than one version of Conan exiles for PC could not find any with a quick Google search. By the way I am now saying it is not happening. Just don’t understand why.

Yeah I don’t know myself, this buddy of mine always has the craziest stuff happen without even searching for it, it is mindblowing. Even in real life. (And I find every crazy bug in games without trying so yeah, we match somehow…)

I normally brought and installed the game through steam. shrug
I thought that such things were normal, its my first survival game and my friend told me about the crazy events that could happen when he played it back than when it was still in err “beta-state”, so no mods or anything. (He stopped after funcom buried his base under a mountain witch a patch)

Maybe I should really start a youtube channel with the video footage I recorded, just for the lolz and surprise because this seems to be a novum for… any other player on this earth.

Yes, a game log will do as it will list any mods loaded.

ConanSandbox\Saved\Logs\ConanSandbox.log

hmm… does this file contain any sensitive information I would not want to share?
(I would make a copy then and delete that information from the copy)

No, it doesn’t, it’s just a log of the game, the only thing it might contain are file-paths to where your game is installed etc.
And it has some hardware info at the beginning which might contain the name you gave your computer and such. Nothing that would be in any way a privacy concern unless you named it as such.

In any case, in case you didn’t know whenever you join a modded server your game will download the needed mods and restart itself to join.
So if a server has mods then you cannot join it without that process enabling them on your client as well.

That’s my suspicion at least that you actually do have mods loaded simply because of the server you play on does and you’re just not aware  The events you described are certainly not part of the basegame.

Is there a specific section which would mention it? Because I cannot upload attachements.

Yea, not far at the beginning

If you search for “Mounting mod pak file” you’ll find any references to them
They would only show up in the log that’s generated after you played on that server thou

The only lines with "Mounting are in the beginning section

Log file open, 11/04/23 22:22:59
LogPakFile:Warning: Spent 0.179 seconds mounting Pak File “…/…/…/ConanSandbox/Content/Paks/Sound.pak”. Mounting status: Success

This was the first time I joined the server. I have not played on any other than this.
The events firstly started occuring after the Age of War update released.

Well, of course I have played on the server. Like I said, I experienced this all by myself on this very server.

Well, check the log file immediately after you experience it on a server
another thing to search for would be: LoadModInfo

To give it more context, that log file is cleared and rewritten every time you start the game.

So if your modlist is empty like you said, it would not be there if you simply load the game and go into single player or another server etc. It would only be present after the game restarts in order to load the corresponding mods required to join the server and only after that session. When you restart the game manually again, there would be no trace of it again.

In any case based on what you described I’m certain it’s a mod, since the basegame simply does not have those mechanics.
There is an event system in the basegame, but that’s different and not linked to the religious avatars and it certainly doesn’t inform players of anything.

If you do have those screenshots from back when they happened you can post them btw.

If your account is not yet promoted to let you post pictures, you can simply go back to the main forum list and randomly visit a few other topics and scroll down to “read” them… the system will automatically promote your account and let you post pictures.
It’s just an initial bot-protection mechanic.

I noticed i can upload screenshots. This is the beginning of that log.
LoadModInfo does not exist in the file.

Mod-List on steam completely empty.

Well okay, here this thing suddenly appeared in the valley of F5, near my base which is in E5.

Out of its foot came Mithra-priests who started to spread around while snakes came from the ground, engaging in battle and lost all the time.
The Yog avatar was then summoned by my friend to clear the area so that they do not come to my base.

Mithra then send this new one

and attacked our bases and when we defeated it, comets came raining down the sky while Mithras voice was heard on my friends site proclaiming he will wipe out his enemies. here a picture where the main house of my friends little base was crushed at this moment:

This occured way before tinkering with the Eventstrings.

So you know if concerned about privacy once you get this figured out you can delete the posts you are concerned about
