I found a spirit bear… followed him and a loot chest popped up out of the ground… but I couldnt access it or see its contents. Then it sunk into the ground and dissapeared.
Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

it never works, don’t know anyone who has been able to open it
From the whispers I have heard, I believe this to be incomplete content. Any Relic Hunter ghosts that point to a chest, or any ghost swimming that gets shot, and spawns a chest… all of these chests do not work.
@Tasha, is this something you can comment on? Is the team aware that these loot chests are not intractable? Any remarks on when this content will be ready?
Hmm. I got into the Ghost Bear chest just fine. And the Noob River Swimming Ghost & others around the map. Of course, that was pre Pet Patch. I’ll have to look again this evening. I have seen more than one ghost acting weird where nothing happens, though (the cave at Shattered Basin & a spot way above Mitra’s Serenity while collecting Lupine come to mind).

Single player? Officials? Or private server / modded?
These chests have not worked for me for quite some time on the Official PvP servers. I know that @Barnes can confirm.
Sorry - PC offline single player. It was vanilla at the time, but I’m pretty modded now.
Gotcha. Take one of the official live servers for a spin. I would be curious if they are broken for your there. My suspicion is that they would be. As I understand, there are many mods that have added some pretty good bug correction to this game.
I’m like 1/3 Beetlejuice on this topic. I have a base I call Ore Ida, above some Darfari falls. There is a Shemmy chest there that works about 25% of the time. Official Live and TestLive, irrespective of population, Private Servers with Vanilla settings, all unmodded. The chest appears after the ghostie points, you get down to its level, then 75% of the time it cannot be interacted with. It will then descend beneath the soil. Personally I don’t have the time to run through any further tests to try and crack this one: there is not an apparent workaround.
As we talked about a while back, I avoid visiting these chests when I am streaming because it causes unnecessary heat this game really doesn’t need right now.
