I have not run into this with any other crafting benches, just Sorcery. If I unload to less than 100% burden, the button becomes available to click, but overburdened, the craft button is greyed out.
Sorcery can’t be used when over encumbered. However, crafting shouldn’t be an issue that I’m aware of. I know you can’t activate transportory stones though.

Ok, that is useful information. On my PvE server, my players almost always go with the encumbrance final perk where you can run and dodge roll while over encumbered. Everyone always carries several hundred % of normal capacity, so that really puts a limit on Sorcery use.
Make box, unload into box, cast spell, retrieve everything from box.
I wonder if there is a good reason for the limit on sorcery and encumbrance? If it is a good reason, maybe devs should also add that into the description of the final encumbrance perk, so people understand sorcery doesn’t support it.

You can’t craft anything that requires the player to perform an animation while encumbered. This is intentional.
There is not currently any exception check for the Beast of Burden perk, whether this is also intentional seems less likely, but is not known.

I’m not 100% certain, but I think it’s to prevent players on pvp from packing up all their stuff, escaping, and closing off the transportory stone. Seems logical, but I could be wrong.
On PvE, it serves no real purpose, but often PvP modifications get carried over to PvE and we tend to gripe about it as it’s a “PvP problem” and we should have different rules. That being said, it also goes the other way with PvE modifications on PvP. You’d be surprised how long it took them to make thralls not run at you and stare you down on PvE because they don’t attack.

Ok, I did some testing and I was actually able to cast some different sorc spells while fully encumbered, which is pretty acceptable. Especially the one that lets you harvest the local area. It would suck if it didn’t allow that spell, as it pretty much encumbers you immediately.
Additionally, that spells WILL harvest star metal that has not been hit with explosives. I imagine that is already well known, but thought it worth mentioning. quite a bit off topic though.

Yeah, since I don’t use it, I completely forgot about it being an exception. I’ve always been curious as to what the comparison on harvesting is though. Like is it the same as using starmetal tools, or does it gather less? Maybe this is something that @stelagel might wanna experiment with if he hasn’t already.

I get about half the mats per node as when I use my starmetal pickaxe and it’s tool upgrade. It is a neat spell in concept, but in reality, probably not much better time wise than harvesting old school for mats/minute. Just cool animations and you don’t have to listen to the “tink tink tink” all the time.

The only thing so far worth the sorcerer way is the crystal farming. For star metal especially, use the traditional way, efficient harvesting!

Depends on if you have encumbrance at max and multiple high volume locations to hit between refreshing of the nodes. I could see it as viable if you use it smart.

Yeah, it doesn’t drop nearly enough to make starmetal truly viable unless you came unprepared to blow shit up.

Crystal seem like a good one. Good call. Although I never have hit a point in all my years where I actually need to harvest crystal. Bearer packs have it often enough that I have 10s of thousands on every play through.
I might give it a spin on the scattered twigs or bushes. I wonder how good it is at picking up the bugs.
Brimstone under water? I beet any of the resources that can only be picked up are ideal.

Obviously you don’t make honeyed jerky as often as I do. Always need a steady supply of crystal for the salt.

In pvp crystal after Brimstone was one of the most farmed item from me. Back then not a lot people knew how to harvest crystals with pick. So when my clan mates was returning with 2k crystals i knew i had to go my self to do it 
. 3 caves about 30k crystals! Now with the efficient perk it must be way better, but still it’s time consuming, so with the spell you can have about 40k crystals from a single cave. This amount is more than enough for some months on a pve server.
