Platform: Steam
Issue Type: Crash
Game Mode: Single Player
Server Type: PvE
Map: Exiled Lands
Server Name: None
Mods: None
Bug Description:
My progress isnt saving. Doesnt matter if i interact with bed and tap a hundred times to update spawnpoint, no saving happens. I lost my greater wolf, black ice, vanir fur, and hours worth of harvesting wood, iron ore, stone, etc. Its all gone. The game crashed “saying i lost connection to the internet”. Everything else i have stayed connected so im not sure why my tablet thats just a few feet from the modem with gigabit speed is gonna lose connection. This all happened while actively playing. I just want my items back so i can move on with the game.
Bug Reproduction:
Im not sure how you will reproduce this. I went harvested, grew pets, and then went to save. Updated spawn point on bed. Moved forward and continued to play. Then the game froze for 2 secs then came back. I continued to play and then boom lost connection. I hit resume back on geforce now and came back to hours before when i hadnt rescued the thrall, no harvesting, nothing. This has happened at least 3 times. I cant alleviate this issue and its making playing the game less interesting.
As you are on single player your game save is local, this means that you can roll back your game to an earlier save.
If you browse to this folder ,
\Steam\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Saved
In there you will see multiple files the most current game save will be called game.db , you will also see several files called
game_backup_1.db, game_backup_2.db, game_backup_3.db, and so on depending on how many backups there are they will be numbered from 1 onwards.
The most recent backup is number 1, if you select column display by ‘Date modified’ you can then see what date and time this backup was created, you would be looking for the date and time before your game crashed.
Once you have found your save that you want to use highlight the current game.db and copy and paste it into the same folder.
Then select the backup that you want to play with and do exactly the same with this copy and paste it into the same folder, the reason I say copy and paste this one also is that you are going to rename the copied version and if something happens again at least you have this backup to fall back upon.
As I mentioned now you are going to rename the game_backup(Number) - Copy.db that you copied and select rename, when you are able to edit the name you need to remove everything except ‘game’ you do not need to add ’ .db’ as it already has this file extension.
Once you have completed this I would recommend checking the integrity of your files as you have had a game crash, once this has completed all being well you should be able to play from the last save before the game crashed.
He mentions playing via GeForce now. I have absolutely no idea if you have access to any file whatsoever but i doubt it. On Xbox Gamepass/Store Version (PC and Xbox) you have but the client ignores all local changes. Also if you stream the game via Microsoft.
On Playstation you can at least store one measly save on USB media but you have to do it manually.
Savegame-handling one Console or streaming services sucks.
I completely missed the geforce now, did not even realise it was a streaming product, I assumed as it was steam and single player that the game was local to his pc, I have seen the streaming products advertised but have never really taken a look at them.
I guess his best support would be from them themselves as to where his game save is, a quick look at their website shows this page.
This post here had a similar situation using geforce now but with a different game,
There was a suggestion though further on down the post ‘Steam Cloud saves can be manually accessed via Sign In but I am not sure how this would work with GeForceNow… You may be able to investigate and get your progression back - unlikely but hey, its something…’
They never said as to whether they were successful though.
Just as a side-note.. updating your spawnpoint has nothing to do with saving, so you can stop doing that as it would have no effect on this
The game is multiplayer by design, even when you play it in single player, and uses a server database that - under normal circumstances - saves everything every few seconds as it’s happening rather than using save files you need to initiate manually.
Whether your items can be returned or not is not certain but you can find more apk games to experience and less errors. In addition, exploring other games also creates more opportunities for you.
