Since yesterday afternoon we have had a serious problem in online mode. We play on an official public server (1049). It happens at irregular intervals that our characters fall through built elements and then get stuck. In individual cases it was possible to climb out of the graphic again, but very often it was only possible to free ourselves again by deleting building elements. We have already had to demolish a portal four times and resources have also been lost. In two cases it was only possible to play again by removing the bracelet and respawning the character.
We don’t know what triggers this. Our guesses are unstable servers, bugs that crept in with the last update, other players (cheaters, etc.) or to much builded items.
Does anyone know or have the same problems or know a solution?
We are playing the Steam Version, on official public server, without Mods
According to current experience, it can be ruled out that other players caused the error, as I was alone on the server for a second time when it occurred.
Unfortunately, special features (location, weather, building materials, equipment, graphics settings, etc.) that are related to the problem cannot be determined.
Today my friend, while playing with his character, fell through the textures to the ground and died. We were only able to secure his equipment by removing built parts. In total, the error occurred more than ten times for both of us during today’s session.
Another special feature is that the glitch always occurs for each of us, regardless of where we are on the map (including foreign bases).
The error just happened four times in 2 minutes. We (2 players) fell through several foundations in our base and then got stuck in the ground. We were only able to free ourselves by removing built elements and workbenches.
Current conditions, the base is at coordinates G10, it is night and there is a thunderstorm.
I’ve been talking to other players on our server over the last few days and they have confirmed that they are also experiencing the error. So it seems to be a general problem.
I also tried to narrow down what was causing the error and suspected that the weather (thunderstorm, rain) or the time of day played a role (maybe it’s due to graphic effects that only occur under certain conditions). Unfortunately so far without success.
In order to counteract the error and be able to continue playing without being dependent on other players or without the risk of losing resources, objects or entire structures, I experimented a little with building buildings on the water. The basic idea was to have the buildings stand on pillars so that if the bow occurs you would fall through the building textures and then simply swim out into the open at the bottom. So construction from the ground was pillar > ceiling slab > foundation. Unfortunately it didn’t work because I fell through the foundation layer but stopped at the ceiling slab.
Gaming is currently very limited when it comes to activities around player-created buildings. I’m currently playing alone because my teammate is on Christmas vacation.
In order to avoid the risk of losing resources or buildings, I focused on further experiments on how to avoid negative consequences of the existing error by adapting buildings. One method that has worked so far is another building on the water. Floor slabs on columns. It is important that there is enough space under the floor panels. That’s why I built the building so that there is at least 1.5 column lengths of space under each floor slab. The floor plate area on which the entire building stands is at the level of the water surface. If the error occurs, I fall through the bottom layer of the plate and simply swim out again.
I made a similar attempt on land with our teleporter. The base area consists of floor slabs that rest on at least 1.5 columns. Since the columns don’t look very pretty, I covered them on the outside with wall elements and stabilized them with foundations, which only form an outer ring around the portal building and do not touch the columns underneath the building.
Of course, these are all just temporary solutions until Funcom fixes the error!
In the last few days we have carried out a few more tests to narrow down what is causing the error.
It appears that the likelihood of a glitch is increased when buildings have foundations and roof elements. It is irrelevant whether you build on land or on water. If there are roof elements or foundations installed in the lower area of a building, you glide through to them and are then stuck in the graphic. If you don’t manage to free yourself by triggering jumping, climbing and croutching, elements have to be torn away, which makes the loss of resources and items or entire buildings very likely if the statics should be influenced.
We also noticed that when you build a building on an elevated game graphic (mountain, rock, tree, building, etc.), it often happens that when the glitch occurs, you don’t just fall from top to bottom, but glides sideways across the game graphics and can then die from the fall, which promotes the loss of the inventory.
This has been happening on our server as well, and it seems to happen to people all over the map at the same exact time. I have died several times from it. Others are so mad that they are ready to quit the game. People have died and lost a lot of stuff because they could not recover resources.
Happened to myself a few times too (PC, Private Server, Barbaric ruleset, no mods, BallteEye), often enough that for now I’m trying not to have any placed on foundations or guarding doors etc. Not ideal. Once I lost a follower on door guard duty and could only find them again by rescue, which was a bit of a pain as all items were lost from them.
In order to be able to play despite the error, we temporarily built a base and a production building on the water (on pillars). We noticed a critical point that can lead to death.
If there are floor tiles below the water surface, you won’t fall through them. This means that you are stuck between the floor slab under the water and the parts of the building above and are in danger of drowning. It is therefore important that the last accessible parts of the building are above the water surface.
Thank you for taking the time to report this to us.
Regarding the situation at hand, when the player falls through the elements, are these being displayed on your end? For example, if a player falls through a set of foundations, is the player able to see the foundations there or do they appear to still be loading?
Also, have you experienced this on any other server or just 1049 in specific?
Should you have a video of this occurrence, please feel free to provide us with such so we can better observe.
Thank you in advance for any further details you can provide.
We can typically “kind of” see them. They do not look like they are loading, but as the camera angle moves, we can see through them like they are somewhat transparent.
Official Server #1504 has the same bug. My character has been stuck in the foundation of the base I built a week ago since yesterday. The foundation pieces are not transparent and do not seem to be loading. I can see the foundation as well as the torso of my character as I attempt to jump, run, etc. to get unstuck. This issue seems to be spread across multiple servers as referenced by several players reporting the same issue over the past week.
Please help if you can as this makes Conan Exiles impossible to play.
