Co-op game - only second character?

Hello, I am trying to play with a friend in a co-op game (he is the host), but when he invites me to the game, I am offered to create a new character, although I already have a character that I play in a single game. Is this a feature of the game or are we doing something wrong?

hi and welcome

no it’s normal, new server , new character and your friend is a new server
but you can transfer your character depending on the platform and the rules in effect, if ps4 only in solo mode for example exil map => Siptah

As GullTop suggests, it is normal, you’re not doing anything wrong. The only way that I know for sure you would be able to continue as the same character in a co-op game would be for you to act as the host and invite your friend (then they would have to create a fresh character, so potentially same problem…) - when you launch your singleplayer game, you have the option to launch it in co-op mode, so it is possible to continue with an existing game and have someone join you.

As for server transfer - I’m not sure how that would work - in singleplayer it is ‘copy character’ from the main menu - but I’m not sure that will work to transfer to a co-op game, as there seem to be significant differences in the way it acts as a server compared to a dedicated server. If you both have existing characters that you want to join up, maybe there’s some way to do it (but you’d have to experiment, unless someone else knows how to do it), but if either of you is happy to start fresh, that would certainly be the simplest solution.

Bearing in mind I haven’t really kept on top of things or anything, so there’s an (even greater than normal) chance that I’m talking outta my… err… that I’m mistaken, but I don’t think there’s any particular technical reason why moving a single-player character to a co-op game shouldn’t work. Of course, if the game doesn’t offer that possibility (and I have no idea whether it does) you’d have to do it the old-fashioned way, which is a technical and tedious process at the best of times.

Welcome to the community, I will advice you to visit the bug section of the console you play, I mean pc - Xbox - Playstation. Try to find posts similar to your problem and post there. If you ain’t gonna find one post similar then post a new one. Make sure that the admins of the forum will guide you perfectly. For the history I knew that Playstation had this kind of bug about 2 months ago, but since I don’t play co-op, I can’t tell if this bug is fixed :man_shrugging:. Closing I will suggest you to choose to play with your friend in a private server for civilized options and in an official for decadent options. Playing in online servers, everything spawns correctly, and the best is that everything is working after your log out action. There are decades of reasons to choose online gaming in this game. I wish you luck with your problem exile

Thank you all for the comments, I realized that the easiest thing is to make a new character, because all the other options are too complicated for me
