Co-Op Issue: Forced New Character

Hello. Been trying to join a friends game and it keep s prompting me to make a new character. Every single time I join. I have to close game to avoid it.
I am trying to avoid losing my current character, especially because it could happen again and make the loss utterly pointless.
Trying to see if there are any work arounds (if anyone else has experienced the same anyway).

Welcome to the Forum hopefully some one will have a answer for you. I haven’t much experience in coop myself.

Thanks. I don’t have much either, but I played with my brother last year and had no problems.

I assume it’s from a patch, maybe the Siptah expansion did something.

Hi,
Do you have any backup saves on the cloud?

I did. I removed it and tried again, same thing. Also tried in a online game and was still prompted to make a character.

Question, if you start a character under Singleplayer/Co-Op and initially choose Single player, can that maybe cause this, rather than choosing to activate co-op? I am asked every time, but maybe it counts for that first time?

I think it would be your friend who would need to revert to an earlier save. I would also advise backing up regularly both to the cloud and to usb, and also;

rebuilding your database:
  • With the console completely off, connect your controller to the PS4 with a USB cable.

  • Now, press and hold the power button on the front of the console until you hear two beeps to boot it in Safe mode.

  • After the second beep, release the button and wait for the “Safe Mode” menu to appear.

  • When it does, select “5. Rebuild Database.” Acknowledge the warning that the process might take a few hours, and then select “OK” to start the rebuild.

The issue could potentially be caused by starting the game outside of co-op mode, I’m sure you could easily test that theory.

Also in case you are unaware, you can use the admin panel to regain lost levels, and progress. Admin panel can be accessed by going to:

Game Menu > Settings > Server Settings > Make Me Admin (Its a small clickable button) Then;
Game Menu > Admin Panel

You can use admin panel to set levels, and spawn resources etc.

If all else fails some users have had more stability after performing a full reinstall. But that is a last resort in my opinion.

Good Luck!

Problem is, it even happened when I went to join a public. Just doesn’t make sense.
Outta luck I guess.

Each server has its own character for online play, so it asking you to make a character when joining a public server is actually working as intended.

As for the co-op problem, I’ve heard a bit about this issue or a very similar one. To clarify have you been playing co-op and each time it makes you create a new character, or are you are trying to bring a character from a solo game into a co-op game hosted by your friend?

Right. I was trying to bring my solo into my brothers game. I gave up and assumed my dude was gone. After we played, I hit Continue to try to level that guy and new guy and …yeah. Still have my solo.

So basically, every game or server I join, I make a character for THAT server? I basically can have one character per server? Or per host game? Something like that?

You can have 1 char per database.

1 for your solo save (and another one if you have Isle of Siptah which has a separate save/database).
1 for your friend’s co-op game. If he starts a new game, you will have to make a new character as well.
1 for each server you join. Each server has its own database.

Long story short, for the time being you cannot transfer your character between servers. Your char stays on that server/save and you can play each char depending on where you log.

You can copy/paste your char from your single-player Exiled Lands map to your single-player Isle of Siptah map and v.v. (not sure if this is available on consoles yet but it is available on PC).

That is correct. So if you wanted to host the co op you could use your single player character but your friend would have to make a character specific to that game world

Alright, thanks for helping everyone. Much appreciated.:+1::+1::clap:

I didn’t expect Conan to let you have a character on each server, assumed you just had one across any you joined, and I was just having bad luck.

Actually one more question. If you have the Siptah DLC, can you have a separate single player game/Co-Op in Exiled AND Siptah, or only one or the other?

That IS the last on this subject.:kissing:

Yes. It’s two separate save files, one for each map.
