Composite Obsidian Tools on Siptah

So after searching around the forums, reddit and google the only suggestions at all for getting the composite obsidian tool recipe is grinding the vaults on Siptah. I have probably done 200 vault runs with no sign of the recipe.
Is it even possible to get the recipe for this on Siptah? If not how do you actually get composite obsidian or is it impossible at the moment?

Composite obsidian unlocks from specific weapon and armor recipes.

Go to the Grey Ones (tall, melee dps machines) on the Island of Dawn (southeast).

Start your search there.

Then proceed to the Island of Dusk (southwest). It’s the Siptah equivalent to the volcano region of the Exiled Lands.

I have combed those areas too and picked up all the obsidian weapon / armour recipes but haven’t found tools.
Are you saying you have actually found it yourself or are you just suggesting this because it makes logical sense?

OK nevermind, apparently being able to smelt composite obsidian at the forge of the first men has been added for all players on Siptah without having to learn the recipe.
I’ll just sit back and reflect on the 200+ vault runs, 150+ fragments of power spent in the tower and the multiple recipe runs through the islands and cry silently in the corner. If anyone needs advanced food recipes components I’m ready to make salt from my tears

From my own experience before the aforementioned update:
Your best bet on Siptah, is to farm the Elder Siege Things.
They’re big and they’re bad but if you live through it, you can loot schematic fragments from their corpses.
4 (or 5 maybe) fragments will unlock a new recipe.
That’s how I’ve gotten those tools and a lot more stuff than I know what to do with.
Trust me, you’ll have to endure a lot of Maelstrom and you may need to build big enough to draw the attention of the Elder Siege Things.
Depending on your settings and whether or not you’re playing on a private server or running solo. The settings can make them show up a lot more than you can imagine.
It can get crazy insane.

Yog will be kind enough to entertain you with maybe more than you can handle.

Oh nice! I didn’t realize the obsidian recipes were in the mix for schematic fragments. I set up my server to do a storm every half hour and run for about 10 min. Whatever part of my base is closest to the tower is where they spawn to attack. A good 5+ Berserkers with gruel and we tear through them. Probably get 20 completed recipes per 10 min session. Are the Obsidian arrows included in that recipe mix? I’ll take those over star metal any day. Absolutely wicked with “Twice upon an arrow” bow.

As of yet, I haven’t come across a schematic for composite obsidian arrows. Then again, I still had mounds of recipes I hadn’t gone though.
Yep, they always attack the point closest to the tower.
In our last run through before switching back to the Exiled Lands, we had set up 6 archer towers around the local spot where they mostly spawned. Archers were set to focus on ranged (we removed their melee weapons) and attack distance was set to max. Towers were high enough the Elder Siege things couldn’t get to the archers, but were always caught in a really nasty crossfire. For once, I actually saw enemies trying to escape. Made taking them down a whole lot easier. We had the archers equiped with damage modified Bow of the Grey Ones. Really nasty damage. The only bow I found that could put out more damage per shot was a Blood Moon Bow and that’s a rare loot off of a bloodmoon beast that will show up during those sieges.

One more thing of interest :
Outside of that killing zone you can get mobs of creatures from the void coming at you from nearly all directions. Some of them … the spider like ones, will often carry Huntress arrows you can loot. Those are the most damaging arrows I’ve found. 25 per hit. With at least 3 archers shooting at them at any given time with those bows and arrows, Elder Siege Things don’t last too long.

We always had very intense battles there.

I really like that plan. I’ve always done melee thralls, but one of the problems I had was thrall travel. They would frequently chase the enemy further and further away form the base, to the point where their agro range was not enough to detect new arrivals. So I had to go round them up quite frequently.

I just went ahead and did an admin check on what recipes I could cheat spawn and there actually isn’t any for obsidian. I may just cheat spawn 1000 schematic frags to see what comes of it. It doesn’t suprise me that not everything is able to be admin spawned.

I was taking a few minutes this morning to rethink the tools I had in my inventory.
I owe you an apology.
The more I thought back about it, I began to realize the tool I thought made of obsidian was actually a pickaxe made of Eldarium.
I know I didn’t cheat spawn it in,
but whether I got it piecemeal from schematic fragments (x5 fragments) during the Maelstrom or as a schematic gift from the Tower in exchange for a Fragment of Power
is something I now fail to remember.
Again,
I apologize.

But if you find anything of Obsidian make out of those fragments, please let me know.
I do remember however, that I found the recipes for the weapons of the Grey Ones at various locations around that area. But the making of them has to be done at the Forge of the First Men. Although unlike legendary items, you can repair them as long as you have the material.

Yeah, on Isle of Siptah you can now go to the forge of the first men and make composite obsidian without a recipe. You can then use this to make the weapons etc. that you find the in the grey ones area. You can also repair any weapons that you have looted.
The tools I have not found yet but as you can make the bars of composite obsidian without the skill it makes the need for the recipe for these less important.

Honestly though, just recycling looted weapons from Grey Ones is probably the easiest way to get all the obsidian bars I need for my weapons, unless I decide to stop using the pools there. They are such a great way to collect shards of power. Some of the group spawns can produce up to 5 shards in a quick 30 second slaughter.
