This is something on my personal radar as a consideration and not something I’ve shared as a suggestion with CEA yet but intended to. Reading a recent and historical publications where Rui Casais was interviewed; my interest was piqued.
@Taemien is partially correct though, at this time it has only been opening dialogue with the current CE Team and the rest of the players via “normal” ways.
From my own perspective: I’m wanting to be respectful and not inundate them with DMs, demands, or anything that is going to unduly offset what is, clear to me, their limited time.
This current method was agreed as a soft approach.
For fun.
For amusement.
If it makes you feel better.
There are plenty of reasons to keep trying if you have the spare time and enjoy it.
But expecting that anyone from Funcom is obligated to accountability to the Forums is not setting realistic expectations.
In the
Impossible - Improbable - Inevitable Scale,
It falls firmly in the distant side of improbable.
Stranger things have happened, but don’t bet the farm.
It’s sad to be old and know at one time united consumers set the rules and shut businesses down. Now the apathy is palpable, why try to make something better when the majority will accept what they are handed?
For money. Business being business they made a calculated decision to release “faulty” in order to continue profitability. Lose x amount of players (and rep) to gain y amount of money.
Well it is more of a calculation along the lines of “if we cut corners here, and if we cut back on manpower and quality there, then we can maximize profitability on sales made over here. Even if X players come back, and then Y of those players leave due to the corners that have been cut and the lack of quality due to the cuts in manpower, the money saved > than the money lost = profits earned”. Something along lines like that, or at least one would assume. Basically, if there are 5% less players but you are earning 25% more profit per item sold and you are still selling roughly the same amount of items (because the wales are still playing) then you are still making money. If you (funcom) are making money then your bosses (tencent) will be happy and leave you alone and or be more willing to fund future projects (or even throw more money at your current project ‘aka dune’).
However, this is all conjecture as no one actually knows anything of this stuff.
Personally, I don’t believe the current state of affairs is the result of a rational decision.
The desire to maximize profits can mess up a product or service. The company’s financial situation certainly plays a role in how much resources can be put into Conan Exiles. But changing the inventory UI, the camera/movement control, the dye system…? How is that supposed to make profit or attract new customers? Would somebody interested in a hack 'n slash building game with naked ■■■■■ first check out the inventory sorting system - and NOT buy the game because it has customary sorting as an option?
I don’t think so. A rational, cash-oriented person would have rejected those ideas as being pure cost and risk. Changing the camera control doesn’t bring in new customers, but risks the old ones. A lot of stuff is just too random to be the result of a rational business decision aimed at maximizing profits.
Personally, I believe we can see the result of internships, on the job training and testing for Dune.
Got a new gal who needs to learn how to do UI stuff? Make her redesign the UI of some old game.
Have some creative designer guy for a month? Why not introduce a new tavern system, that sounds cool.
And I’d not be surprised if corrupted attributes reappeared in some form in Dune, probably related to spice addiction.
Pure speculation, though.
Also, I hope they get a writing intern and a voice over tryout for a few days to re-introduce Telith’s Ghost. Can’t be that hard.
It’s not our jobs to do so. Ours is to purchase what we like and if CE bazaar and the framework around it (IE the game) is to our liking, we purchase. If we don’t, then someone needs to hold those that decided to zig vs zag accountable. If they don’t, then we as consumers will look at the entire company brand as something different and if there is enough, it won’t matter how good the product is, the stigma of a bad company will trump any sales.
We provide our feedback in good favor that they will seriously take it into consideration. That is about as active as we can get into the decision making of the game as outsiders of the company.
Quality started to seriously degrade in age of war. Lets be clear there has always been issues with bugs , we all dealt with it. But the game was far more healthy in age of sorcery and before it.
I dont know if they are now currently experimenting with ce. But i see really bad unsolicited chamges , or i may say the worst possible implementation of past made promises
I am trying to understand what is what funcom wants to accomplish with CE, what are those game objectives , how do they see their game in the future , their vision… i cant understand what they are trying to achieve .
I cant find coherency in their chamges.
I cant understand why would they drop a major system change for a game that they wish to abandon for busines reasons or other reasons.
They added fully voiced heroes (gj on that ) , that are very expensive to add … ( dev wise) for a dying game ?,
It does not male much sense unless the voice were recorded a year or more ago. …
I really cant to understand their reasons
Btw They should remove the srttlement system entirely and rethink it.
There are funcom actions that says they are not done yet with ce.
But lets be clear that dysfunctionality with testing patching has always been there. Right now the last major patch was more visible. But its been threre even before the ages
I do think they have pulled more and more resourxes to dune. And it has impacted the game.
I see Dune being brought up a lot, and I don’t believe it has much to do with CE. Its currently in a closed Beta testing phase which means all the heavy development is done. Dune is likely going to see a reduction in size in development team in the next few months rather than poaching from other projects.
If the CE team lost people to Dune, it was back during the Isle of Siptah release. If that was the case, then the reduced team was able to pull off Age of Sorcery.
No, the issue isn’t people, the issue is time. Age of Sorcery had many times more time on it than the subsequent Ages, they even indicated that in the livestreams when talking about why they aren’t as expansive as the first age.
I’d love for there to be 36-48 months between ages. But for some reason they want those milestones to be closer together for promotional reasons.
Yes @Kikigirl, i have something for the op .
You are doing a fantastic job and i will repeat my thanks to you and @Cauthey for starting it and invite me.
I will just say, not so off topic however, that people who feel to discuss, no matter discord or Forum, will find the way to do so.
Just because people think that they have separations and unfortunate rivalries for a GAME, that doesn’t mean that forums or discord pages are not for discussions…
Just saying!
And this is why I involve myself in these arguments. People like you scream and cry “incompetence” whenever something doesn’t work 100% perfectly. The irony in it all is your own incompetence is at play when you can’t even fix a simple typo in the very same sentence. Are you insulted? You should be, calling someone incompetent is an insult - which is why we ban people for doing it. There’s a fine line between criticizing someone’s work and attacking them personally. Know where you stand.
Your entire involvement thus far has been to further talk down towards everyone; including myself, my community, and the developers. You are precisely the kind of person that I dismiss as nothing more than a mindless troll, and your kind will poison any organization you insert yourself into.
You are not welcome in our community discord, and I hope the CEA also distances themselves from you if they want to preserve their integrity.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA really? you probably not reading this topic… try again.!
i am calling a company incompetent or dysfunctional, not a person, what you are doing is attacking me on a personal level, which is against the comunity rules…
It can also be a fact. If some one consistently does a bad job, how else am I supposed to describe them? Is there any way to describe them with out it being considered an insult?
Do YOU really want to start calling for booting people you have issues with?
incompetent:not having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully.
If it’s a fact it isn’t an insult. You might take it as an insult, but you know what I have to say about that.
If a person or company consistently does a bad job they are incompetent, period. Offering up a bunch of excuses does not change that fact.
Jimbo… seriously. Read your own posts before publishing them. Maybe set yourself an hour of time before actually publishing them.
It’s easy to disagree with Hansel, and one doesn’t have to like him, his typing or his style of discussion. Personally, I don’t. But his posts are not trolling. Yours, however… please, be conscious of what you do here and how you represent yourself.
You cannot be the wise community leader and lore expert as well as the forum warrior which apparently you both try to be.
That’s rich coming from you. Might I remind everyone here you were banned from the discord because you insistently, to this day, felt the compulsive need to bring up Den’s weight and still can’t understand why that was wrong to do.
You and Hansel both cannot stop attacking the people at the company instead of being critical of the company separate from the people. When you call someone incompetent, even if you mean the general vague “funcom” entity, that’s still inadvertently directed at the people behind that. And in your case when you single out the lead designer of the game for being “tubby”, I take issue with that.
When you muddy your criticism with personal insults, don’t expect to be taken seriously.
So yes, @Khaletohep I am a forum warrior when it comes to this, and no I don’t think I’m the one trolling here. Be mindful of the company you keep, and the opinions of those who you back.
No I got banned for not bending to your connotation of a descriptor. This is why you have nothing to teach me.
And that is a you thing, the part you don’t understand.
Do you understand just what descriptors are?
Saying a company or a person is incompetent it’s not an insult, it’s a description of the job they do. It does have a bad connotation because it’s implies a poor job, but it isn’t a personal insult, it’s a description of a job done, especially if that job is done consistently in the same way.
If its merely a description then its irrelevant to bring up. I can call you an incompetent old man and there’s nothing wrong with that. Its just who you are. Its no different than being male or female, or anything. Can’t change who you are, you are what you are.
But you’ve not seen my work to make that call have you?
Still if my work shows no competency it would be a fact, not an insult. You trying to use it insultingly doesn’t make it one.
