Just a reminder that we need to vote for our favorite game for “Labor of Love” steam award this year.
I know Funcom has been chastised for making changes and rebalancing and adding content that “Nobody wanted”, All people wanted was some “New Content”.
- But, when it comes down to it, Funcom (Conan Exiles Devs) have put more time into keeping Conan Exiles fresh and new
Than most Devs put into new games.
“Conan Exiles has Bugs - never fixed” - Yes it has bugs, I agree. However, The Devs have removed as many bugs as they can find causes for.
You have to remember the game engine is a pile of scripts, the game is a pile of scripts running on a pile of scripts.
Doesn’t matter if you play on console or PC, you are playing on a computer. Computers get insulted by random numbers that no one can predict or prevent.
So what is a bug to you, has never happened to someone else. Is that a bug or is that a random insult the game generated?
Another thing, computer programs, whether a video game or the state lottery computers, develop a preferred number list. Numbers they like better than other numbers.
Everyone playing the game is playing a computer program that is generating numbers differently than the guy you are playing with in game.
How is it different? Your play style, your armor you are wearing, the name of the thrall you have following, the sword or shield or staff you have equipped.
All of those variables generate numbers for the game to work with. So if you see a “Glitch”, even a recurring glitch, it can be a situation where this is only happening
to you because your game has decided it likes that random number. Try and reproduce that on another computer and play through, you can’t. So the Devs concentrate on bugs they can reproduce.
It doesn’t mean they don’t care, it means they can’t pin point the cause.
Optimization - Conan is more optimized than most video games on Steam.
It runs smoother than any game I play with the same graphics and physics and mechanics.
Can you get stutter and crashes - I don’t but I do know others do. What causes that? Any number of variables.
Internet speed, computer specs, drivers, memory issues, a bad mesh out of the thousands in the game.
I personally know for a fact that a bad mesh can cause a crash. I also know that a bad mesh can cause a crash only when approaching from a specific angle,
when the mesh is in a specific camera view.
So approaching the mesh from the east may cause a crash where as running right by the same mesh from the south may cause nothing to happen.
You try to find that bad mesh. Funcom optimizes their meshes and looks at them, but unless they approach that bad mesh in game from the east, they will never find it.
Not saying there is a bad mesh, just saying that is a variable that people over look when playing a video game. And when downloading a game, there is always the chance that a hiccup in your internet connection,
during download, can cause a mesh to become corrupted - but it’s only corrupted for you. And if the mesh doesn’t change size as in KB, it will not be detected by validating files.
All the player knows is they crashed right in the middle of a fight. They don’t mention they were at such and such a location approaching from the east, half way between
here and there. Or that it was 9:03 AM game time, because the mesh was actually visible at that time and at 9:03 PM the mesh is not visible. lol
The Devs for Conan Exiles work harder at keeping Conan fresh and playable than most Devs. They are constantly reading through the forums, where players are so toxic, I would have blocked the forums from my computer if I were
a Funcom Dev. But they read them daily. No matter how badly they are talked about. They keep working at making the Conan Exiles experience new fresh and exciting, for the players.
What other game allows you to play your way, your play style, build your base in different materials, actual combat mechanics, gives you physics on armor and hair to make your play time more enjoyable.
Some complain about the new Journey Steps. Journey Steps are not necessarily there for the veteran player, although you can use them. They are there as a tutorial for the new player.
Most games force you into a tutorial when you begin a new play-through, even when you have 6k hours in that game. I find it refreshing, that Funcom has found a new way to place a tutorial, that is easy
to skip for veteran players.
I could go on and on about how the Devs that work on Conan Exiles are treated, but they just keep working. They find new ways to give New Content to their player base for FREE.
They work, they get paid, but then the content of all that work is given to the player for free. Yes you purchased the game, so you play the game you bought and then demand more content (for free).
So the Funcom Devs, find a way to give you more content for free. But you don’t like the method they came up with to deliver that free content.
How many of you are willing to go ahead and go to work next week knowing you are not going to be paid at the end of the week? Probably none of you.
The Bazaar keeps enough income coming into Funcom, to allow them to keep the Devs working on Conan. So bad mouth the Bazaar if you want, but Funcom found a way, to give you a choice Again.
The choices, play the game your way - PvP, PVE, RP, single player or online, Official servers or Private servers. Play as a warrior 2hander, or a sword and board, or a sorcerer or a combination of several.
Play Exiled Lands, Play Siptah or (because Funcom gave them the ability), play a fan made map. Follow the tutorial or don’t. Build a base in a tree or on the ground or a combination there of.
Have thralls with armor, or let them wear grass clothes. There are too many choices given to the player to allow them their own play style for me to name them all. But the final choice Funcom gave us is…
Support us financially or don’t - it’s your choice.
Conan Exiles is on sale right now for 10 bucks. I challenge everyone playing Conan, to purchase a copy and send to a friend who does not yet have Conan Exiles.
We all benefit, just as we benefit from one person who purchases an item from the Bazaar, even if you hate the Bazaar - you still benefit from that purchase.
Funcom makes enough to keep the Devs working on the game for your benefit.
Bottom line and I promise to stop. Lets give something back. Vote for Conan Exiles “Labor of Love” this year.
I think the Devs would appreciate it as a show that most players do appreciate the work they put into this game.
With that, I am ready for all the ridicule from people who want to call me a fan boy or whatever. Just remember, I have given my share of bad reviews and bad comments regarding the Conan Exiles team.
After seeing what other developers do with games, I had to rethink my position and realize, the Conan Exiles Devs work very hard to continue to give us a re-playable game with new content and bug fixes - For Free.
