Confused about Armoring - Looking for clarity

Total noob here, just started playing yesterday and trying to make my way through this very promising but somewhat overwhelming armor crafting system!

  1. I get that there is an Armoring Bench, an Improved, and then a higher tiered workstation. My understanding is that these allow you to make the base materials (e.g., paddings) needed for each of the 3 armor weights. I’m not sure what the inputs are, but I assume it’s the various leather types?

  2. Then I get that there are Tanning stations, again, a basic, improved and top tier. I think this is where you make the various types of leathers that go into the Armoring Benches? So I assume the inputs here are various looted hides and pelts?

  3. Tannery. This is where I’m lost. If the Tanning bench is where you convert raw looted skins into refined materials as input to the armoring station, what is the tannery for?

I’d appreciate someone giving just a brief overview of what each of these 3 types of stations does and takes as input and what it outputs. No need to discuss Thralls, I get how they integrate, I just don’t have my head wrapped around the basics. I think I’m closing in on understanding, but this tannery thing threw me off.

Thanks, appreciate any insights or suggestions!

The Improved benches reduce the amount of mats required.
The two choices of the top tier benches either increase the speed of production or reduce material cost.

example Blacksmith’s Bench

Thralls placed in benches introduce new patterns I believe, however this could have changed in the time I was away from the game. I just returned myself.

Tannery
Is much the same only reducing the fuel consumption.

The confusing part is the Tanner’s Table and the Tannery. The Tannery converts hides to leather and produces tar as a byproduct. Leather is needed for medium and heavy armor. The Tanner’s Table converts animal specific pelts and skins (eg. Hyena pelts) to hides or thick hides, generally on a 2 to 3 ratio. The Tanner’s Table takes an armorer and also produces twine and after level 60 the all important thick leather.

Thank you, that was exactly the part that was confusing me and you cleared it up!
