Game mode: Online private
Type of issue: Crash
Server type: PvE
Region: America
Mods?: [ Are mods installed: NO ] (Nor subscribed to via steam. Pure servers only!)
Edition: [ Steam
Bug Description:
A clear and concise description of what the bug is.
This randomly occurs but will consistently happen during any play session that exceeds 1 hour. Often this is in dangerous spots, and when relogging the delay is long enough for thralls and avatar to be killed.
There is no warning, simply that the screen blacks out and a windows message box is displayed that “Pak file corrupt, run validate local files etc.” The only solution is to run the validation which usually takes about 20 minutes.
I have attempted to uninstall and clear the directories, then reinstall. I have tried clearing the Steam update cache. I have the game optimized for the 1070 Nvidia card and have not altered the video settings. I have tried disabling the music mix out of desperation.
In any case, this persistent bug is basically making the game unplayable. There is absolutely no reason that a mod-free server should consistently bugged a pak file, no actual problems are ever discovered by the lengthy “Validation” so it’s obviously a bug. I have seen reports of this bug that go back to 2019, so I don’t really doubt that this is a known issue.
Installed Mods: NONE
Steps to Reproduce:
Steam PC Windows version
Login to online server. No mods installed, NO Steam mods even SUBSCRIBED.
Play for 1-2+ hours
Error with corrupt pak file in basic message box on Desktop.
Program terminates, character remains in situ to be murdered by random wildlife.
The log has the same font loaded last as my log on this report:
Do you perharps also run operating system in a diferent language than english? I think it may be related to locale since fonts are aways the last thing on my logs when this error occurs.
Yes it does. The only time this does not happen is when playing in SP mode. I can’t say for sure that it doesn’t happen in SP mode, just that it doesn’t happen to me.
It doesn’t seem to happen to everyone, since some people play without error on these same servers.
But again, reinstalled 3 times now, NEVER subscribed or used any of the mods, and still this happens anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours into an online session - it’s random.
Rather than trying to find some reason to blame the user, how about examine the mechanism that is failing here? EVERY time I take the 20 minutes to validate all files (which seems to be the only workaround Funcom has suggested) there are NO issues found. That tells me it isn’t about some rogue server downloading compromised archive files, it’s a bug that is erroneously reporting a corrupted archive file.
If this is getting to be a game of “Let’s keep asking questions until we can find some way to blame the user…” I can do a standard web search and see this same error happening to people back to 2019. If I’m honest, this seems like an ongoing case of “Ignore these stories until the user goes away,” to me.
Thank you for the additional information. Unfortunately, we need to ask basic questions to rule out known issues and give our team the best information for their investigation.
If you have any other bug reports that you think we could have given better attention please make sure to tag @community and we will review them.
Additional info. It happens in Single Player mode also. I would say that that is about as “Official” as you get. Does it not strike you as being a bit ironic to speak of, “Official Server,” when you are setting up the deals to rent out game servers? Yet you don’t support such servers, remarkable.
Since this has been an ongoing problem over 2 years (according to a stack of bug reports from the player base), I would say that this is not a case of needing more information to bracket the issue. I notice that no other logs were requested.
I know this will be ignored and then closed for inactivity as with all customer bug reports. I doubt there is any attempt to troubleshoot this in house. As it is, it is unplayable. I have done 3 clean installs and nothing. The only question I have now is how to get a full refund for game and all the DLC I wasted money on ( I know. Fat chance of that.).
What other software do you run in the background? What kind of peripherals do you use? In the past there have been some weird issues reported by players which ended up connected to either a software they run in the background or their mouse/keyboard/headset. It is a long shot but still.
