Is there a reason why turning your mounts was not attach to the mouse like other games with mounts? It would be so a game changing and even more enjoyable having a mount. You akwardly get use to using the keys but with a mouse it would be so simple.
If there is no reason would it be possible to make it so you can control your mount with the mouse?
The reason is that if you control the mount with the mouse, how do you aim your weapon during mounted combat?
I do wish they would improve the controls, though. Among other things, autorun does not work in any useful way, because it deactivates as soon as you press one of the strafing keys.
Lol I was going to ask this, but I felt dumb - don’t have much PC game experience. How do games with robust mounted combat like Mount and Blade deal with this?
Wait, this Mount & Blade? I haven’t played it, but I see it’s a single-player game. You can have the game assist you with aiming in a single-player game, so it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s what they did.
But like I said, I haven’t played it, so I don’t know.
It’s easier to solve with a gamepad, anyway, because it has two analog inputs. I don’t know what’s a better solution for keyboard and mouse, other than aim-with-mouse and steer-with-keyboard.
I played thousands of hours of warband. I tried it on console just to see since it was on game pass, and even though I’m primarily a console player I was unbelievably bad on that game with a controller
At the very beginning, when they added horses, they said they wanted to make the mounts different from the rest of the games. So that they weren’t just a speed boost. Changing the camera control while riding a horse fits very well with this concept.
Using the lance changes the camera control even more - unique.
I got used to this control, but I have not become so attached to it that it cannot be changed.
I don’t know what to think about this idea.
Warband which was the sequel was much more robust and popular than the original. And my god the mods.
But I should probably stop talking about Mount and blade, if I get going I’ll derail the thread with walls of text that no one actually wants to read
I think some of the later installments have multiplayer? I only mentioned it because it’s pretty ubiquitous with mounted combat in video games.
Interesting that CE takes the same approach. A functioning auto run does seem optimal to me - a hold/toggle button that maintained horse move inputs so you could aim and shoot/slice would be
I’d love to be able to switch between steer-with-keyboard/aim-with-mouse and steer-with-mouse/aim-forward, either with a specific key, or when I don’t have a weapon* in my hand(s).
I imagine that would be too much coding effort for a low-priority issue, but I can dream
I would imagine that it would be the same thing that happens when you move your mouse too fast when steering your character.
Back when they introduced the momentum-based movement for our characters, it was way too noticeable and we all complained about how our characters steered like oxen. They toned it down until we were happy, but I don’t think too many people would complain that the horse steers like a horse
To be more precise about what I meant by “steer-with-mouse”, I don’t care a lot about the implementation details of that, i.e. whether they use the exact same logic that they use for our characters. As long as I can point the mouse where I want the horse to go and the horse goes there eventually, that’s enough for me to call it “steer-with-mouse”.
Have had no issue controlling horse - (though I wish running off cliffs was not a thing if I look at the other screen. No issue with the Rhino mount either - kind of like driving a 4x4 with real bad attitude. I do love the movement of the mounts. Amazing dynamics and kudos to the Dev team wot did it.
Yeah, the horse actually steers pretty nicely. My only issue with the current controls is the strain on my fingers. A working, useful autorun would solve that. Steering with mouse when not in combat would also solve that. I would be okay with either, as long as my fingers get some slack. I ain’t as young as I used to be
