What is the game trying to tell me when it says “unable to start crafting item” ? Do I need to be at a certain level?
I have the fuel and I have all required items needed for the crafting. I am try to craft the “Dismantling Bench” (100 steel bars, 100 bricks, 50 insulated wood) which I can not do because the game says “unable to start crafting item”…WHY…now what do I do ??
Ok you are trying to craft the bench itself. So I am assuming you have the required materials in your personal inventory then? And if you are even seeing it in your personal crafting list then you obviously unlocked it so…I am really not sure on this one. I’ve never experienced this problem myself.
Thanks for the info. Not only am I seeing this for the Dismantling bench, but I get the same (error?) when I try to craft the battle standard. You are correct, I have all the needed items in my personal inventory and in the crafting list. I am at level 60+. I have been playing only about 2 weeks and I must say this problem is really starting to #!& me off. Once again thanks for the help, I will keep trying to find answer.
A few questions and try’s
Use a yellow lotus potion and reset everything and learn it again
Some similar issues have occurred wait till server restart and see if fixed if not try potion again
Also store everything in a chest and kill your self to see if your inventory system reset itself pick all back up and try again
Let us know if that helps or not to give it to others in case they also experience this issue in the future
Ahh, this sounds like a mod issue then. Only way you can be level 60+ is via a mod. Though I still do not know what mod could be causing it.
Great info; however, my (failed) attempt to build the dismantling bench was occurring before I got to level 60 and before I added the “Level 70 Plus” mod.
I tried using a yellow lotus potion before and to be honest, I do not know if I want to go thru all the hassle of re-loading everything again. I will try your second option and let you know the outcome.
I won’t say this is a mod issue, as I don’t run mods and have no idea. What I can say with certainty, is that I have never seen this particular error message before.
thanks for the info. It looks like the other people who have responded say the same thing – never seen this particular error before.
Followed your idea – stored everything in a chest, killed myself. Went back to the chest and picked up all items. Went to craft , all items appeared in craft mode inventory ; however, I still received the “unable to start crafting item” message. So… I am still unable to craft a Battle Standard nor a Dismantling Bench. Thanks for the help guys.
Just backup your modelist in any text editor, clear it, begin a new SP game without any mods except Pippy, make yourself 70, assign those feats, spawn materials and try to craft. Then adding mods from your modelist one by one you’ll find which one is faulty and report this to mod author. Pippi itself doesn’t give such effect. By the way where do you play? If it’s a private server then there may be some “stub” mod forbidding to craft those things.
Thanks Ko6ka for the info. I do not want to sound stupid, but to be truthful I have no idea what you are talking about. How do I backup modelist in a text editor? OK--------I clear the mods, start a new game without mods except Pippy (?). Then --------I do not understand – if I start a new game…how do I make my self 70, assign feats (if start a new game don’t these get reset to 0?), then respawn materials in order to craft? I am sure what you are telling me is real easy to do (if you know how), but I am not understanding what you want me to do. I will try to find out.
As a followup – Have just spent approx 20 minutes watching video on the Pippy mod…I’m sorry that is way above me. I was lost almost as soon as the video started. I play single person, (so I do not know if Pippy will work for me). Anyway it looks like it is way over my head on trying to use that mod…so I think I will pass for now. Once again, thanks for the help…I just do not know how to use/do it.
- Find this folder on your hard drive:
Move all the *.db files somewhere else; it’s your current game, you’d like to save it.
- Find this folder on your hard drive:
File modlist.txt contains a list of all your active mods. Make a copy of this file somewhere for convenience, then open this file in any text editor and delete all the lines from it.
-
Subscribe to Pippi as usually, launch CE, start a new game
Your old game is safe and sound 'cause you’ve copied all the old *.db files with it. -
Pippi is just self-explanatory. Make yourself Admin, press ESC, open Admin panel from main menu. You need Player tab to assign your char lvl 60 and open those two Feats for testing purposes. Then spawn some raw materials and try to craft.
-
If you still can not craft then your game files are broken. Reinstall the game.
-
If you can craft then quit the game and open your modlist.txt. There will be a single string corresponding to Pippi. Open your backup copy of this file, copy one string from it and paste into your modlist.txt. Save and close file. Launch CE, try to craft. Repeat this step adding strings one by one until you find the faulty string.
-
It’s a bit complicated to derive Mod name from this string but if you show it here someone can tell the faulty mod name I think. Then you’ll have to decide what to do. You can ask Mod author to debug mod, or you can unsubscribe from it or just admin-spawn this one crafting station and use it.
I’ve just forgot to mention: after you finish all the tests just replace all your new *.db files with those you’ve backuped and restore all the original strings in your modlist.txt from backup too, and you’ll get your progress and mods back.
OK, that looks like some thing I could/can do. I’ve made a hard copy of the steps, so now it is just a matter of doing them (if I have the guts). Thanks for all the help.
You are welcome. Just make more backups so that not to loose your progress, and everything will be OK.
