There is a bug regarding the decay timer. There was a base with 3 hours left until decay. When I went back to check on it—at which point there should have been 1 hour remaining—the time left had jumped to 240 hours. I checked the player list, but no one was online. I then logged out and logged back in; upon checking again, it still showed 240 hours, and once more, no one was online. I spent some time playing, checked again, and it was still 240 hours. I tested this with other bases, and the same thing happened with some of them.
To be honest, I don’t know, because ever since then I’ve been afraid to check the decay timers on other players’ bases.
And honestly, I’m not even that interested in them—I might loot a abandoned one every now and then, but I don’t go out of my way to look for them; I usually just stumble upon them by chance—I definitely don’t keep an eye on other bases just in case. This was an exception.
In any case, the one I noticed at my own base fortunately did decay—I just accidentally gave it a few extra days.
Come to think of it, I have a vague feeling that this has happened to me once or twice before. I used to change my base location often and travel around to interesting places.
In any case, it’s possible that this is a bug that’s been in the game for some time, but it’s probably a pretty rare occurrence that requires several factors to align.
I suspect you may be right about it taking several factors, otherwise we’d see more reports. Chances are some people are encountering it and not realising, but there’s definitely also some bases decaying properly (not least becasue there’s also the other bug where bases decay into unlootable lootbags that then stay for weeks…).
@kramer I suggest you report it to helpshift - Contact Us — Conan Exiles Help Center - becasue that’s where CEE bug reports need to go so the devs see them sooner. (But please also continue to report here as well so that issues can be added to the player-maintained bug lists.) You won’t be able to directly upload the video there, but you should be able to either add a link to the video (which is how I usually do it) or add a link back to this thread so the devs can view the video if they need to.
Yeah, I ran into a few of those recently, too, and yeah, they last a couple of weeks.
Overall, it seems like I just can’t seem to get rid of anything lately —like the gravestones on the map; they’ve been there for months.
I think what you were seeing was actually a decay timer reset caused by breaking something.
People on official servers use palisades to reset other players’ decay timers (for friends, for example) when they’re going on vacation or something. In fact, breaking anything belonging to a base, including palisades, resets the decay timer.
Are you sure? I recently looted an abandoned base, which involved destroying doors and chests—none of that reset the timer.
By the way, I couldn’t dismantle the walls or foundations; it told me I didn’t own them.
