This is an absolutely massive thing to add to the game and would take alot of work. Though seeing the way that the devs have already put such a huge amount of work into this game with patch work and the addition of new things. (The new things having yet to entirely come but with what is coming is massive.)
The ability to dig ditches to move water around to build moats to fill with the carnivorous fish that are being added such as sharks and such. Building traps for both players and npcs. Building hidden bases in the desert, mountains volcano or even the swamp and highlands or heaven forbid underwater in the side of a beach! You can also build barriers to keep purge thralls at bay and such. It would also add more resources to the map and gems as currency to buy things making gold and silver not the only way to buy things in sepermeru. This isn’t something i imagine would be added quickly but still would be a massive addition that would majorly change gameplay even pvp allowing for other methods of siege as well. I’ve seen a few other topics but i didn’t really see them outline any uses for such things. (Could also add special receipies for forgotten items uncovered in your digs.
There is a thread with a video showing how to go underground. But, it is an exploit afaik. Technically doable by exploiting the holes in the code and map. If I am not mistaken, it could be a programming pain to allow excavations, tunnels and whatnot. As much as it would be a nice addition it’s not too viable and don’t think it was ever in the original design of the game.
I agree that it is likely not part of the original design and would likely be a pain in the rear to program it. Though a lot of the people i’ve talked to in game love the idea of being able to dig around or build subterranean bases. The others are indifferent to the idea but i’ve not found people online that hate the idea or dislike it. I figure if the community asked enough or liked the idea enough that as with many other things the they will work on it or at least to a degree. Even if it is just trenches and underground buildings we can place like regular building blocks.
Yeah i don’t think free form digging and excavating will ever be a thing but the request is out there and possible. Though making trenches that you can place or blocks that you can place like an underground entrance block and then open spaces that follow stability rules would work. Also that is really easy to do seeing as it is already able to be done with pillars and foundations the way that they have the snapping set up.
Still place able underground blocks is much easier than programming layers of land that can be removed and reshaped by players over and over again after all. So i feel a request like that really isn’t unreasonable.
Well, you’re right that it’s an order of magnitude easier than the usual requests to “shape” the terrain. The main issue then is how to “cut holes” (entrances) in the terrain, and how many (if any) of the current mechanics would break because they’re built around the assumption that players cannot get “inside” the terrain.
I know there’s a bunch of exploits related to getting inside (or under) the terrain, and if being in there was suddenly not only allowed but facilitated by the game client, those would probably get much worse.
True i am not saying that such a problem would not arise. though they are actively patching bugs and those kinds of bugs always arise slowly but surely as things are added. So whats the difference between adding this or new types of buildings? I mean the same problem could and likely would arise.
Are you suggesting something along the lines 7 days to die here? With the way map is constructed they would literally have to rebuild the entire map. And using this system there would huge amounts of lag that’s why they did it this way first. Adding some holes players can feel like they are digging just means some clans will get the idea to just build over it ultimately stopping this process. I’d be cool with a feature of panning for gold/silver and sifting through sand you could call archeology or treasure hunting or whatever.
7 days to die is more minecraft/ freeform digging. I am suggesting pre made blocks that you have to craft and have a set area and they snap together like a door way and a foundation kind of thing. Allowing you to build without having to re structure the map entirely.
Yeah kinda like that. Think like a hollow foundation you can walk around inside of that has dirt walls that you can clip another into it to increase the area.
