What about Tsunami? How does it work with that?

Procs are normally limited to once per second, so I’d guess that the maximum would be 3, assuming that the first and every other hit was a crit. Adding in the 50% chance, you’d be looking at an average of 1.5 per use.
It’d be interesting to run some tests on those assumptions, as it’s possible that it might only proc once per ability use, or that the proc might not be limited to once per second, so if you used an aoe that hit multiple targets, it might proc more. I’d be surprised if that was the case, but I couldn’t say for sure without test data.
At 50% chance, is it truly guaranteed to proc with every other crit? Even at 38.1% crit chance, when I have two accurates, I can crit multiple times in a row. That makes me think it could proc multiple times in a row (or none) - with Swallow cut.
If it does work that way, I’d say sometimes Razor’s Edge will be better and sometimes Stormbringer.
I would love to know about the AOE hits, when you crit on multiple enemies. These are the kinds of things that I always wonder about while playing but never ask because it causes people to argue.
Chance never guatantees, thats kinda the nature of it. All it means is that over a big enough sample size, 50% should proc. The bigger the sample size, the more likely it is to be true, the shorter the less likely.
When you theorize which is better, you can only do it based on assumptions of a big sample size, otherwise it means nothing =)
There’s no guarantees. You might get incredibly lucky and have a string of crits, or you may have none. If you’re tring to work out a theoretical rate though, you kinda have to use averages. That’s why I was saying that the maximum would be 3. The minimum would be 0, hence the average of 1.5. Though that’d be assuming 100% crits, so really the average would be much lower.
The idea is that in a longer parse, it should even out, so whilst you may have 5 crits in a row, you may then go for 5 hits with zero crits. You may also get 5 crits where it doesn’t proc any extra chi, and you may get 5 crits which all proc the extra. The only way to model it is to work with averages.
The chi generation has potential to come in bursts with Razor’s Edge, vs the regular and predictable Stormbringer generation. If you’re running less than 50% crit rating, (including weapon expertise,) then unless Razor’s Edge can proc more than once per second, the total chi generated by weapon effects should be higher on Stormbringer. Stormbringer will also continue to generate chi when you aren’t actively hitting anything, or when using basic abilities. Though there’s still assumptions involved, so it’s not a certainty.
Right. So no one can really say for certain (yet) that Razor’s Edge would be one chi per four seconds. It’s a percentage unlike Stormbringer. Sometimes Stormbringer will beat Razor’s Edge and vice versa (at max IP at least).
Dear @AndyB

The correct spelling for that is “2 ounces rye, 1 ounce sweet vermouth, 2 dashes Angostura Bitters” (stir, strain & serve up). You’re welcome.
Anyway, I decided to try the switch to defensive glyphs once I looked into my bank and noticed there’s almost a full set of replacement glyphs ready and waiting.
However, getting another set of glyph changers in one or two months would be nice for those who find changing their glyphs wasn’t such a great idea for them.
Additionally, ten free inventory slots for the new equipment would be a nice gesture.
Nah, that recipe’s for a Manhattan, no idea what’s in a Mahattan.
I can’t wait to see the new BIS guides that are going to come out.
In some other cases (Cruel Delight as an obvious one) it can successfully proc once per second, but every target hit gives it a chance to proc, so extra targets just geometrically approaches 100% chance. If that applies, it increases your odds on Tsunami by ~75% (from 25%/sec to 43.75%/sec) at 50% crit chance. (.5*.5 + (1-.5*.5) * .5 * .5)
I feel like I’ve missed something, isn’t Tsunami a single target attack?
I don’t know how the once per second thing impacts channelled abilities either. Say the first attack doesn’t crit, but the second one does. I don’t know if the third critting would proc it, or if the proc triggers a 1 sec cooldown before it can trigger again etc.
You failed to realise something huge: the Razor’s Edge shines particularly in AoE situations. When you hit a pack of 9 mobs for instance, you’ll very likely land multiple crits, and the 50% chance to roll a chi will roll on every single crit. This is what this blade is made for.
Channeled abilities stil proc stuff once per second generally, there are sometimes exceptions however. It should be able to proc it once per second with a 1s cooldown between procs.

Interesting. Only place you’d meet this many mobs is OD. With Blade changes there might be more incentives to bring Blade mainhand into OD outside of really loving Blade.
Separately, when a Blade ability hits more than one mob, how many Spirit Blade charges get expended? One for each mob hit, or one for ability activation?
Dude, I went Blade/SG in OD, and it was pretty amazing. Although, it’s very obvious OD is not as hard as it was. We only went in once, got to wave 44 and stopped. We didn’t try very hard. I used OS and Cleanup from SG and the rest blade. I even used Hurricane over Tempest to keep up my energy, and you could see the damage. This was with Blade of 7th Son. I can’t wait to go in with Tempest. You can leave your swirls at one portal to aggro monsters and run to another, plus it does more damage.
Afaik the chi generation is tied to ability uses and not to the number of targets hit. Except on weird cases like the Razor’s Edge effect where it is randomly generated based on crits (i guess it is also limited to one proc per second).
Maybe I don’t understand what it’s for but “Purifying Weapon Empowerment Catalyst” isn’t gonna have any effect on my item leveling… it just saves me ~4000 anima shards, of which I have >5 million anyway and don’t spend them on anything except item leveling in the first place. And to even get 4000 i need to store 4 slots worth of weapon distillates + catalyst in my inventory until the 4th drops.
It just feels like some sorta booby prize, it’s not even as good as the useless “extra xp on crit” distillates that never crit.
(item description: A catalyzing agent that supplies necessary energy to purify anima-energy sources found in salvaged weapons. When used to empower a weapon, causes the empowerment to have no Anima Shard cost.
actual usage: it takes 1 of the 5 slots in the empowerment UI, and cost is 0 for the other 4 items)
I tend to agree. Scrapping the cost on empowerment doesn’t really do anything. I can’t see it making much of a difference even for lower level characters.
It’s useful for people who don’t have millions of shards probably, sell it to them ![]()
Also there’s a catalyst that guarantees a crit, so the extra xp on crit distillates aren’t useless either.
It’s just funny to me people starting the thread with “it’s fine, leveling items is way easier now” and the best you get is a single extra distillate worth of xp per dungeon. (or, if you’re lucky, the 40% increase catalysts, which are worth 1.6 extra distillates)
