Do we need horns on everything?

Brother, the spike on german ww1 helmets was primarily intended to hold a horse hair plume. It had little to nothing to do with deflecting sabre strikes. You apparently have surface level knowledge of history and of this universe based purely from memes. You’re the type to think romans all wore red and used segmented iron armor the entire time. I’m fully aware that this universe is low fantasy. Not everything needs to be 100% “realistic”

Headdresses with fabrics and jewelry would be nice.

Helmets are not my thing, but I found some interesting pictures.
That one is medieval themed:

Viking themed:

That picture was published by National Geographic. They explain the myth of the Vikings’ helmets adorned with horns, explain which helmets with horns truly existed (prior to Vikings), and who we have to give our thanks to for propagatoring the idea it was a trend of the time.

Either way, Conan is pure fiction. It does not matter as long as it pleases the readers.

Executioners hood! I don’t like horns either! If i didn’t had this hood, i was using the pict dlc.

I agree with everything shared in this reply. All of those things would be a great addition

As long as they’re pointing mostly upwards, I’m fine with horns. But horns that would limit the movement of my arms, or horns that would trap my own weapon, are just plain silly. Not just on helmets, but on shoulders as well.

I think some Conan Exiles outfit designers are trying to include too many “barbaric” elements in their outfits, when sometimes, simpler would be better.

Why put horns anywhere but on helmets? The rest of the armor gets spikes and studs.

I agree with everything said here. Most “spikes” are very light and go straight up. Everything else is silly and in the way. I don’t expect the game to be 100% realistic, but some of these horns are obviously in the way or way too heavy to actually wear

Because it would get im the way and be uncomfortable to wear. I don’t mind if they’re on the smaller side if it is for barbarian nations, but I’d also like variety in plain helmets as well. You can see things sticking off of armies such as feudal japan or the winged hussars, but it’s always on their back. This is because the weight doesn’t affect them too much and it doesn’t hinder their movement, because it’s on their back

Sometimes less is more.

Mail armor bikinis, for example.

We all love the magical protection they give.

My main issue with headdresses and turbans is that they don’t look like what you showed. They never include hair. Ever. My characters look like cancer patients. :expressionless:

If they can make the witch queen mask (via admin panel) have its own hairstyle included (plus adjusting to your chosen color), then they should be able to at least include a hairstyle with many of these. That Pictish headdress is the biggest offender. A paid bazaar item shouldn’t be so bad I don’t wanna use it EVER.

The distinctive spike on the Pickelhaube was supposed to function as a blade tip. It was designed to deflect sword blows aimed at the head.
The Pickelhaube: What Was the Point of the Prussian Helmet? | HistoryNet.

Obviously you know it all because you watched all the episodes on history channel.
I don’t want to argue over this or offend you but…
I had privilige to meet the veterans of both wars and read countless publications on the subject. Also the history was my main interest at high school and afterwards I had shit ton of history at college.
The horns were addidional protection for the head and also the animal horn was great at absorbing the impact as it was much softer than metal.
I don’t claim that horns were popular in middle ages in Europe but they had been used by civilizations throughout history.

And yes, Conan is barbaric themed low fantasy…

We all know these…

and here a Mongolian…

How about we read the articles we plan on sending? Does that sound good? Also might help to read what you’re replying to. I didn’t say that spike wasn’t ever used for deflecting sabre strikes. I said that they didn’t use it for that function in WW1, and your article agrees with me. Here’s another article

I have expressed that horns aren’t super common because they are heavy and in the way, which I still believe. If they’re too heavy they’re going to br horrible to wear. On top of that, they’re not only going to get in your way, but they’re going to be used against you. They can easily be hooked on to.

For samurai, the majority did not have anything on their helmets, unless they were high ranking. This changed later on where they started wearing frontal tatemono for recognition purposes. Side ones were rare, and most likely to be worn by high ranking individuals. They weren’t wearing giant horns for the common soldier. In fact when the frontal ornaments became more commonplace during the warring period, we can notice that the also became smaller. Most if not all of the samurai armor shown would have not been used in battle or would have belonged to officers. I’d like to learn more about their armor but unfortunately I can’t read or speak Japanese.

Also the random Mongolian doesn’t really show anything. You can google Mongolian armor and that’s literally like the only horned helmet you’ll see.

All that to say, if it’s in the way and heavy, it’s not going to be used for practical fighting. The larger it is, the more likely it has nothing to do with protection and more to do with status. I was also commenting more on the European inspired factions rather than the Asian ones, because I’d like to see armor additions for them rather than just barbarian stuff.

There are some “civilized” european/mediterranean armours in Conan, even a full plate armour in Siptah and in Riders of Hyboria DLC.

I can understand that you personally don’t like “horns” I just wanted to show you that they had been indeed used, even if they were crap, shit and heavy - horns had been used on real combat armours.

You have something against horns?
