So after this 2.8 update, wich fixed fence stacking.
They messed up the fences fully.
Yes you can place a fence on the ground, but cant place one top of it.
So you cant build a wall or anything from it at all. GG

I can put walls on my (Turanian and Sandstone) fence foundations as well as fence foundations on top of my fence foundations.
Solo and on an updated Private Server.
Are you on Official servers?
Edit: Noted which ones worked for me, because it now is obviously radically inconsistent.
Yes, im on official EU pvp server.
I also did test it in single player and it wont let me.
My clanmate tried it also and he also cant do it.
That’s odd.
I’m on NA and mine seemed to be working (because I only used a couple types).
I wonder what the difference is.
I guess I should… ~shudder~ …check an official server. (And should have tried with a wider range of pieces. How the cluck is Turanian fine while Aquilonian is bugged)
Ok, this is weird af.
I can build walls on fence foundations normally on the official PvP…
I can build a sandstone fence foundation atop another sandstone fence fountain, but I cannot build a flotsam or sandstone fence foundation atop a flotsam fence foundation.
This is not just a PlayStation issue. Can FC or the OP add the PC tag to this post? 2.8 broke fence foundations on PC as well.
Not all of the fence foundation pieces are broken, but a good number of them are horribly broken.
Things I have observed: they can’t snap to foundations that should be valid, top build socket doesn’t work…preventing you from placing anything on top of them. I was trying to work on my base yesterday and discovered that I’m basically stalled in my building. It’s SUPER annoying…
I tested all of the fence foundies in single player and came up with this list:
Stormglass: Works
Sandstone: Works
Khitan: Works
Reinforced Stone: Works
Turanian: Works
Stonebrick: Works
Argossean: Busted
Yamatai: Busted
Black Ice: Busted
Black Ice: Busted
Aquilonian: Busted
Frontier: Busted
Flotsam: Busted
I find that these findings are roughly consistent on Official PvP servers although the system is a bit more janky in multiplayer. Also pretty annoyed that the DLC I payed for is constantly broken in one way or another. There hasn’t been a single patch cycle where SOMETHING DLC related isn’t broken.
We told them about this weeks before they released 2.8 - just so you know. And it’s not even consistent between t1, t2, and t3 fence foundations - as you have outlined just above - which we also told them about. They saw it too because @Dana “passed it along” to them.
My guess is that we will now be stuck with it like this forever. I hope they prove me wrong though.
Greetings everyone and thank you for this information.
We’ve passed it over to the rest of the team for further investigation.
@TeleTesselator In the meantime please make sure you check out our forum social guidelines to make sure your posts/messages are following these guidelines.
We need “game patch guidelines” that the development team has to adhere to. If you want civil discussion you need civil patches. So many patches are straight up abuse. Also did you notice how this bug was reported during testing??? It’s a HUGE bug and you just said “yeah this is fine” and released it???
I agree! They knew it! We gave them all the information! We SHOWED them the bugs they added to 2.8 TestLive with text, graphics, and video all in one convenient location. They were obviously working on 2.8 so it was something completely relative to what they were working on at the time.
And yet they completely ignored us and released 2.8 in a very bugged state ANYWAY.
Yup, that’s something very close to being abusive IMO!
To be fair, I don’t think any of the community engagement team has direct control over what the devs do or when the production team decides to publish.
Yes, being thrown here to the wolves is sorta the job (and it should come with hazard pay for the first few weeks after a patch), but it’s not like we have to shoot the messenger.
I’m also quite frustrated by this situation. Moreso because it was an already reported issue. I play this game in two modes between content drops.
PvP solo mode (which this borked update is beneficial for, but now it feels sorta cheap, like it’s the patch and not my superior spite that is being a thorn in my foe’s side).
And Architect mode. Which has been quite adversely impacted by this patch. It’s actually been sorta given the ole cactus enema by the past few updates. Even if we ignore the bugged fence foundations, the past few updates have made builder lives far less enjoyable (more build exclusion zones, more build restrictions, no toggle for turning it off in sight, and indication that the trend will continue).
The bugged fence foundations are the post consumer food cherry on top.
But there’s still nothing to be gained by chewing up the messenger.
Perhaps having a designated venting thread would be useful?
A place to go blow off steam and really let the feelings out in a personally relaxing way, unfettered by the allusion that we should be positive in a somehow productive manner.
Just my two peaces of copper.
Maybe we don’t want to see every tit for tat. There is money to be made with blogging your experiences. Why post a long thoughtful essay about some game mechanic if nobody will read them (or just tldr). Anyways…
LOL!!!
But that’s already like 50% of the threads here… We need a special one too?
Just to be clear, I don’t blame @Dana at all. Not one little bit! She did her job perfectly and timely as did we on this particular issue. And it’s not my place to assign blame to anyone at all. It’s the resulting condition of the 2.8 release that I’m pointing fingers at.
We told them 25 days before the release.
Dana handed them the info 21 days before the release.
Everything was very well documented.
They absolutely should have already known this on their own without us.
And they failed to correct some bugs they added when they changed how fences work.
In the first place if I did that for one of the publicly available applications or games that I’ve worked on I would get a balling out from the boss and about 2 or 3 times like that they would move me to the customer support desk till I quit. Second of all, I would NEVER do something like that as a programmer or designer. That’s incredibly disrespectful to those who pay my salary - not to mention the end users or players who have to deal with said results. I would not want to be the one who brought shame to my team or the company who was paying my rent.
And it’s not like this is some bug on a bug stack in a queue somewhere. This was the active code change specifically targeted for the 2.8 release. The debug loop is a VERY well known concept and practice! That it was not followed here is beyond my ability to imagine. Seriously, I can not picture or imagine any situation or condition short of a kinetic hot war affecting the city their offices are located in, that would cause that to happen.
Oh well… It’s only a game… It’s not life and death or anything… It’s just disappointing to see such things happening. Disappointing because I take pride in my work so I expect others to as well.
