I’m on PS5 and the game is basically unplayable because of the lag. Can’t build, can’t open doors or containers, all of a sudden i teleport to different floors in my base… That usually passes at some point, though.
The now placeable workers can’t walk through doors properly so they swarm the doorways and keep opening and closing them, another reason why i can’t move around the base. And one thing really bothers me, they also open the doors that lead outside so other players can just walk in. How can i keep them from doing that? Other than closing them in a room which kinda defeats the whole purpose… Oh and the bartenders have vanished.
Seems that this is once again an update that hasn’t been thought out very well and it isn’t surprising in any way at this point. Also none of the build issues have been fixed, the overpriced Aesir set is still faulty among other things. What has it been, two years? Great work.
Sounds like a pathfinding issue. If their way to whichever interactable they’re looking for (chair, bed, etc.) is blocked (maybe because another idiot thrall is stuck in the doorway or something), the follower tries to find an alternative route.
The advice I heard is basically “make sure all crafters have everything they need nearby”, which is almost certain to clutter the base terribly, and make it necessary to build bigger (which is generally discouraged on public servers, but this inconsistency has existed at least since the crafting bench update).
The Living Settlements concept works probably fine if you can build a village where every crafter has their own little hut with bed, chair, food etc. Less so in compact bases.
According to my observations, when NPC doors open, these doors close immediately, without a pause. That is, when I open a door, it remains open for some time, allowing passage, then closes automatically. When a craftsman opens the door, the door literally immediately closes again, which does not allow him to pass. The NPC either starts looking for another way, or tries to open the door again and again. I did not notice any particular problems with searching for paths.
NPCs move quite adequately, go around furniture, although they bump into other standing characters. But at the same time, their movement when walking around the base is like in slow motion. Perhaps the reason is that I have a rather weak PC …
A huge thank you to the developers for making a “Use NPC / Do not use NPC” button for each usable piece of furniture - this is a pleasant (and useful) surprise. It seems to me that all doors and gates need the same button. And for the ability to enable/disable free movement of artisans in the menu - also a big thank you :).
It seems I read in the announcements that the menu will also have an adjustment of the range of movement of NPCs from the point of placement - but I did not find it :(…
“Zamorian innkeepers” really disappeared after the update. Without a trace.
Another problem: if any of your workbenches was completely filled with materials or finished products, the artisan does not move to it from his cell after the update. He continues to be displayed as a “hologram” next to the workbench, as in the previous version, but you will not be able to pick him up - he will, in fact, disappear.
Update: The problem is solved if you free at least one slot in the workbench inventory, then exit the game and enter again - your craftsman will be in the workbench, you can take him.
I always disliked that the crafters are “not human” that they are an item. Now they can walk and fight and they can change their outfits.
I dislike bugged behaviours like thrall trying to walk through the door but being unable to open it and just being stuck there walking towards the door infinitely.
What I would like to see now:
no more thralls/pets in the chests and fridges - it’s beyond stupid (just remove it, kids are going to cry for an hour or two and then forget about it).
now once they walk and fight, use the golem mechanics and make the BEARER thralls walk around and harvest resources + deposit them to these new resource boxes we got in last expansions (skinning, foraging, woodcutting box etc). Also it would be so cool to be able to pick the mode for the bearer - skinning, foraging, woodcutting, ALL) (or totally new class of thralls - gathereres, lumber jacks, miners etc etc etc)
PS.
I don’t care, I have 100 cores 5Ghz each just to run Conan server
Well that’s important feedback then. If a machine like yours still see issues then it’s certainly core issues, thanks for the feedback.
I do remember not three weeks ago i joined a pvp official server and from the the very first half hour it was like you said, completely unplayable. Can you name the server you play @Koschgine so i can join later and confirm your issues.
Thanks for the feedback too.
Ps. Many PlayStation official pvp servers need maintenance some time now, they lag a lot even with 2 players inside.
Every time someone mentions better AI for NPCs there is someone else coming to the thread to say that better AI would affect server performance in a bad way. This is why I say I would take my chances and I think I can take it
